These Guys Looks Wasted to Us

Posted: 25 Dec 2013 03:14 PM PST

Aha; so, here's what a few too many cold brewskies and who knows what other types of brain-messing alcohol can do to you, your friends and your ride.

One more thing we'd like to point out about this painfully entertaining video is that, before you call in a tractor to pull out a car wedged in a ditch, you may want to make sure that all passengers have exited the vehicle, especially when it's obvious that they've had one too many drinks.

Otherwise, as the following clip (purportedly recorded in Latvia) shows, you could be picking them up one by one from the side of the road…

Tesla Starts Selling Cars in China Without…a Brand Name

Posted: 25 Dec 2013 09:02 AM PST

Tesla Motors has begun offering Model S sedans in China without a local name for its brand because of an old trademark dispute. Tesla recently inaugurated its flagship store in downtown Beijing and this week launched a Chinese-language website to take orders from local customers.

However, the website doesn't include Tesla's Chinese language name, a rare omission for global brands present in the world's largest car market. Tesla originally wanted to use "Te Si La", the Chinese name best known among local consumer, but the name has been registered by a Chinese businessman who has been refusing to give up the trademark.

Zhan Baosheng registered "Te Si La" in 2006 and has no intentions to sell the trademark despite a series of requests from potential buyers, his agent said. According to a Tesla salesman quoted by Reuters, the carmaker has no Chinese name yet and there's no information regarding when or whether there will be one.

A quick solution for Tesla to end this problem would be to use another name or buy the trademark from the Chinese businessman, but the latter may prove to be a costly move. In 2012, Apple settled a lawsuit by agreeing to pay $60 million (€43.8 million) to a Chinese company for the legal rights to use the iPad trademark in China.

The country has rules that protect globally renowned brands, but in the case of relatively new companies such as Tesla, those might not apply. Another reason to worry about for the EV maker is that the price of the Model S is not determined yet because China has not decided on its tax policies for imported electric cars.

A Very Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays from Carscoops!

Posted: 25 Dec 2013 08:01 AM PST

Well, it's actually here: Christmas Day! Some people argue that, we should start and end our wishes with the politically correct "Happy Holiday(s)", instead of the traditional "Merry Christmas", and perhaps they do have a point as, whereas many people take time off to be with their families these days (mainly in the Western world), some don't necessarily do it because they're Christians, but because they live in a predominantly Christian country and have accepted the local customs.

On the other hand, and while it is true that we cater to an international and diverse crowd, shouldn't we give the appropriate and millenniums-old wishes to those of us who actually do celebrate Christmas (for spiritual and/or traditional reasons)?

Yes, like everything else religion-related, it can be a delicate subject, depending on which side of the fence you stand on, but if you're asking for my thoughts, you should already know them from the title of this piece and I'll gladly hear yours in the comments section – just after you take a…relaxing peep at the humorous videos posted below, you know, to lighten the atmosphere.

PS: We'll be taking it easy today and tomorrow (Thursday, December 26) with a reduced number of stories to spend some quality time with our families, and we will return to our regular schedule on Friday.

UPS Says It Couldn't Handle High Volume and Many Gifts will be Delayed Until After Christmas

Posted: 25 Dec 2013 06:58 AM PST

Here's a stocking shocker for many U.S. customers who were expecting their gifts to arrive on time for Christmas: UPS, the country's largest delivery service, said on Tuesday night that many packages scheduled to arrive by Christmas Day will not get to their destination on time.

The company blamed the high volume of packages this season for wreaking havoc to its delivery system, leaving it overwhelmed.

"UPS is experiencing heavy holiday volume and making every effort to get packages to their destination; however, the volume of air packages in our system exceeded the capacity of our network immediately preceding Christmas so some shipments were delayed," UPS said in a statement.

The Georgia, Atlanta-based company pointed out that it would not be sending out packages on Christmas Day (December 25) to make up for delays, instead the parcels will be delivered on Thursday.

"UPS is not making pickups or deliveries on Christmas Day and will resume normally scheduled service on December 26," said the company.

UPS had forecasted its air network would move approximately 7.75 million shipments on Monday for deliver before Christmas Day. The company declined to say how many packages would not arrive on time.

Another noteworthy model is the sported-up, N-One Modulo Concept based on Honda's JDM retro-inspired city car, which in our eyes, looks like a Japanese Fiat 500 Abarth proposal.

Ford Shows Ken Block How It's Done in Snowkhana Two with Scale Models

Posted: 25 Dec 2013 04:59 AM PST

For the second year in a row, Ford has released a Snowkhana video which – you guessed it – is a parody video of Ken Block's Gymkhana Six, the latest installment of the driving stunt video series.

Snowkhana Two includes a 2013 Ford Fiesta scale model (1:64) that drifts its way around and through various toys usually found under the Christmas tree. The video tricks us into seeing powerslide smoke instead of cotton balls with the use of compressed photo shots

Joined by a classic Ford Mustang at one point, the Fiesta negotiates tight curves between an eclectic mix of characters, including Santa Claus, Godzilla, Darth Vader, Superman and...Miley Cyrus.

You can watch the full video after the break and compare it with Snowkhana One, also posted below.
