Land Rover Electrifies Classic Defender for the Geneva Motor Show

Posted: 27 Feb 2013 05:02 PM PST

If you've ever had the opportunity to drive the classic Land Rover Defender on the road, you'd be right to think that it's, if not the, one of the most outdated new vehicles in the world. Take it for a spin off the road, however, and we're pretty sure that you will quickly change your mind, which is why the British firm continues to offer a vehicle that can trace its roots back to the original 1948 model.

Still, as capable as it may be when the going gets tough, a replacement is long overdue, which is why Land Rover presented last year's DC100 Concepts. Until the next Defender is ready, though, Land Rover wants to use the current model as an experimental vehicle to test a new electric powertrain.

Monster 1965 MINI Cooper with 5.7-liter V8 Sure Contradicts Itself…

Posted: 27 Feb 2013 04:02 PM PST

What an oxymoron; a MINI monster truck. As you can see for yourself, the only thing really "mini" about this strange-looking automotive creature that we found for sale on eBay is the shell and the interior of the classic 1965 MINI Cooper.

Right under the metal skin there's a Jeep Wrangler YJ frame (built from 1987 to 1995), upgraded with a 6-inch lift kit and an assortment of other aftermarket parts, while the tall engine bay is home to a brand-new 350 cubic inch (5.7-liter V8) crate motor.

No doubt, one of the highlights at ABT's stand will be the firm's tune for the new seventh generation VW Golf hatchback, previewed here in a rendering, in which we get a taste of the cosmetic applications that include an assortment of aero parts, headlamp and mirror trims, and a new alloy wheel design from the ER-X line.

Dutch DJ Afrojack Crashes Ferrari 458 Just Hours After Picking it Up

Posted: 27 Feb 2013 01:27 PM PST

Take a good look the above photo and tell us; does the young man standing in the middle with a smirk on his face look like he just smashed the red Ferrari 458 Italia seen on his left side?

We don't know if it has to do with his bank account, the fact that nobody was hurt or if the car happened to be a rental or a lease, but Dutch DJ Nick van de Wall, more commonly by his stage name 'DJ Afrojack', seems to be pretty joyous for someone involved in an accident with a very expensive car he had picked up only a few hours before the crash.

Aston Martin Annoyed by Sexy Used Car Ad, Lawyers Up and Demands Image Take Down

Posted: 27 Feb 2013 09:07 AM PST

For a Britain-based carmaker, Aston Martin sure lacks a sense of humor – at least when it comes to fan-made ads, because as far as cars are concerned, the company showed its funny side by slapping its cherished winged logo on a Toyota iQ and naming it the Cygnet

Why are we telling you all this? Because we just received a letter from Lewis Silkin LLP, a law firm that represents Aston Martin, and which demands the takedown of an image/ad we shared on our site of a young lady posing on a kitchen bench with the tagline, "You know you're not the first. But do you really care?", for the brand's used car division, and which cloned an older BMW commercial.

Volkswagen Hands Out a €7,200 Bonus to German Employees

Posted: 27 Feb 2013 06:51 AM PST

Good news for Volkswagen's German workforce as Europe's largest carmaker is sharing some of the record profits the company delivered in 2012 with its employees.

VW said on Wednesday that it will pay German workers a bonus of €7,200 or a little over US$9,400 at the current exchange rates for 2012, which is about 4 percent less than what the company handed out in 2011 (€7,500), despite the fact that its preliminary net profit rose to €21.72 billion in 2012 from €15.41 billion the previous year.

Illegal Horse-Buggy Drag Racers Slow Down Traffic in Romania

Posted: 27 Feb 2013 06:27 AM PST

Talk about horsing around. Two men were captured on camera on a Romanian highway leading to Bucharest drag racing their…horse buggies.

A large commercial van with its rear tailgate open and a black BMW 3-Seires sedan with its alarms blinking were following on from behind – though, we can't say for sure if they were part of the racing crew or annoyed road users waiting for the enlightened duo to finish their 10 minute quarter mile race.

Geneva Preview: Maserati Adds Two-More Seats to GranTurismo MC Stradale

Posted: 27 Feb 2013 05:18 AM PST

When Maserati launched the GranTurismo MC Stradale back in 2010 at the Paris Motor Show, its goal was to create a more performance-orientated version of the Pininfarina-designed coupe, with more power, less weight and a stiffer suspension, which is why the Italians dropped the rear seats.

Now, Maserati is getting ready to premiere a new sub-version of the GranTurismo MC Stradale that keeps the regular model's four-seat configuration at next week's Geneva Motor Show.
