New Aston Martin Vantage SP10 Offers a 6-Speed Manual for the First Time on V8 S Posted: 08 Feb 2013 04:36 PM PST ![]() Once upon a time not too long ago, sports cars and manual gearboxes were synonymous. Nowadays, it's getting harder and harder to find a high-end performance car with a stick shift as most automakers are opting for dual clutch or automated manual transmissions. Aston Martin's Vantage V8 S, which is the more focused and slightly more powerful at 430hp (436PS) sibling of the regular V8 model, is one such example as it is available exclusively with the English brand's Sportshift II 7sp automated manual transmission. Slamming the Brakes When a Car is Coming from Behind is a Bad Idea Posted: 08 Feb 2013 01:37 PM PST ![]() It's only human for drivers to slam on their brakes when they sense danger, but when you're on the road, you should always use common sense. For example, deciding the very last minute that you want to exit a highway while other cars are coming from behind is a reckless move in itself. But let's just say that you do it anyway; if you see a car approaching at speed from your rearview mirror, what's your next move: a) do you go accelerate or b) do you apply the brakes? Read more » |
Spied: BMW Testing Plug-in Hybrid Version of the 5-Series Sedan Posted: 08 Feb 2013 12:48 PM PST ![]() We are already aware that BMW has begun work on a subtle facelift for the current 5-Series sedan (codenamed F10), Touring (F11) and Gran Turismo (F07) models, all of which should arrive in the market next year as part of the brand's four-year life cycle. British Media Shotgun Rides in New Jaguar F-Type Get a Sniff of Petrol Posted: 08 Feb 2013 12:05 PM PST ![]() It's only natural for automakers to seek the most, and best, media coverage for their products. When it comes to certain models that are, shall we say, special, the latest trend is to offer a ride from the passenger's seat before the official press event. One that comes to mind is Porsche with the 918 Spyder. A more recent example is Jaguar and its long-awaited F-Type. Driving it won't be possible until April but riding with Jag's people at the helm is. Read more » |
New Mercedes-Benz CLA 250 Priced from $29,900 in the USA Posted: 08 Feb 2013 11:43 AM PST ![]() While browsing Mercedes-Benz's US consumer website to see what you can buy with the equivalent of $59,611, which is the price for the German market CLA 250 Edition 1, we were caught by surprise as the automaker has listed the base MSRP for the CLA 250 that starts at $29,900 – evidently, excluding destination and handling. That's close to $6,000 less than the entry level C250 sedan, which is powered by a 1.8-liter turbocharged four-cylinder petrol rater for 201hp and 229 lb-ft of peak torque. Under the hood of the CLA, you will find a slightly more potent 2.0-liter turbocharged inline four delivering 208hp (211PS) and 258 lb-ft of torque, with the base model equipped with a standard 7-speed dual clutch automatic transmission driving the front or optionally, all four wheels. Viper’s Nest: 2013 GTS Snake Goes Against Heavily-Tuned 1997 Predecessor Posted: 08 Feb 2013 11:00 AM PST ![]() Mad, bad and dangerous to know and drive: it's a description that fits the Dodge Viper to a tee. Until the 2013 brand-new SRT model, that is, which has gained all kinds of bells and whistles and is supposedly a more user-friendly kind of supercar. The latter term is relative, of course, as all who have driven the 2013 SRT Viper agree that it is more civilized than its wild predecessors but still remains an animal when you push it to the limit. Spy Shots: New Range Rover Sport Sheds More Camouflage Posted: 08 Feb 2013 10:20 AM PST ![]() The wait for the new Range Rover Sport is almost over, which is why the British firm's engineers have peeled a few more layers of camouflage from one of their latest prototypes, seen here testing in its natural habitat (at least in theory) close to the Arctic Circle. Like the model it replaces, the new Range Rover Sport is an offspring of the bigger and boxier Range Rover. With the second generation model, Land Rover wants to increase the visual distance between the two SUVs. Read more » |
Cars Fall Victim of a Spectacular Rooftop Snow Fall in China Posted: 08 Feb 2013 08:51 AM PST ![]() With the first flakes of snow starting to make their appearance here on the East Coast, we thought it would be a good idea to show you what can happen when nature's most joyful art material goes rogue in this admittedly spectacular video that was reportedly shot in China. The clip begins with a few slabs of snow starting to fall from the rooftop of a building onto the street and the parked cars. However, in a few seconds, all hell breaks loose and hundreds of chunks of snow and ice make their way down to the ground. Read more » |
Cadillac Says ELR Hybrid is Nothing Like the Tesla Model S, Won’t Share Upgrades with Volt Posted: 08 Feb 2013 07:46 AM PST ![]() After testing the waters in 2009 with the Converj concept, Cadillac went on and revealed a hybrid luxury coupe, named the ELR, which will enter production at the end of this year and hit the market in early 2014. Although the striking design remains faithful to the concept, the underpinnings were more humble as they were borrowed from the Chevrolet Volt. It's a move that makes perfect sense, though it begs the question why the Volt was rolled out before the ELR since the Cadillac could easily justify a premium price – something the extended-range hybrid Chevy has struggled with.
