Exclusive: 2014 Cadillac Escalade - Here's Your First Official Look and Insider Info Posted: 17 Apr 2013 06:58 PM PDT If you take a look at Cadillac's current portfolio, there's one model that sticks out like a blueberry in a pan of milk for more reasons than one. Yes, we're talking about the Escalade, GM's biggest, most luxurious and with a $63,170 starting price, most expensive full-size SUV. In production since 2007, the third generation Escalade has seen its sales numbers fall, but it remains a profit machine for GM, which is why the Detroit carmaker is keen to launch a replacement that will enhance its strong points and diminish its weaknesses. Driven: New Peugeot 208 GTi – A Real Hot Hatch at Last? Posted: 17 Apr 2013 04:44 PM PDT The early bird usually gets the worm. Unusually, this particular morning I've become an early bird myself though, instead of worms, I'm enjoying a nice cup of espresso and hot croissants [sic] in the balcony of a hotel in Nice, France, for the press drive of the new Peugeot 208 GTi. Below, in the car park, is a large group of 208 GTis in various colors gleaming in the morning sun. Inevitably, since I'm not here on vacations but to get behind the wheel of Peugeot's latest hot hatch, I find myself scribbling down some thoughts before the official presentation that will take place shortly before the driving. All-New Hyundai Genesis: Our Spies Get Up Close to the Korean Luxury Sedan Posted: 17 Apr 2013 03:38 PM PDT If there's one model that has single-handedly changed customer perceptions about Korean cars in general, and the Hyundai group specifically, it's the Genesis mid-size premium sedan, which proved that the company was finally ready to look German and Japanese rivals straight in the eyes. The fact that the press and consumers have warmly received the Genesis puts a lot more pressure to Hyundai for its replacement, a futuristic glimpse of which we had with the HCD-14 Concept at the Detroit Auto Show in January. Hyundai's goal with the second-generation model is to improve the formula all around, offering the Genesis with a more dashing and sharper-looking exterior loosely inspired by the HCD-14, a better quality interior with more attention to styling details and wider options, which for the first time, will include all-wheel drive. |
Consumer Reports Takes the New Kia Cadenza for a Quick Spin Posted: 17 Apr 2013 03:00 PM PDT Based on the same platform as the Hyundai Azera sedan, the new Kia Cadenza is an understated car, which looks to have a quality interior and good space. Despite the fact that it is not yet available for purchase in the States, the Cadenza has been driven by Consumer Reports (CR), and it seems that they were pleased by the big Kia. Read more » |
Chevy and GMC to Reveal New Mid-Size Trucks this Fall, On Sale in 2014 Posted: 17 Apr 2013 02:32 PM PDT General Motors is keen to cut itself a bigger slice of the US pickup market, with two all-new midsize trucks, which should offer performance and towing/carrying capacity close to that of the larger Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra. Expected to be revealed in the fall, the new trucks will go on sale in 2014. These trucks really sound like a good idea, since they will offer considerable improvements in efficiency over their larger counterparts, yet GM will be differentiating the two, giving them distinct niches to cover. Car Acts as Ramp and Flips Truck Over in Russia Posted: 17 Apr 2013 02:06 PM PDT Of all the Russian traffic accidents we've seen, the most severe are the ones which take place on the open road, and involve at least one truck. In this case, it's two cars and one larger vehicle. Read more » |

Peugeot to Develop New 308 GTi and Top-Spec 308 XY, Possible 208 R Model as Well Posted: 17 Apr 2013 01:15 PM PDT Peugeot has seen the lime light with the 208 GTi many times in recent months. Now, they want to keep it that way with a "proper" hot-hatch version of the next generation 308, also badged as a GTi, as well as an even more extreme 208, bearing an "R" badge, just like the RCZ R, which is getting 260hp. Spy Shots: New BMW 2-Series Reveals It's 1-Series-Derived Interior Posted: 17 Apr 2013 12:50 PM PDT Something tells us that BMW's marketing arm will soon shift into hyper-mode to convince us about the merits and the differences of its upcoming 2-Series and 4-Series lineups over the existing 1-Series and 3-Series ranges. While most statements will hold true in regards of body styles and up to some extent, the exterior design cues, the new even-numbered models have a lot more in common with their odd-numbered siblings than what BMW's marketing divisions would likely freely admit. Take a Look at the History of Morgan, Which Remains Family-Owned to This Day Posted: 17 Apr 2013 12:20 PM PDT There are very few cars one can buy today that genuinely have a proper heritage behind them, backing up their credentials. Sure, you could argue that progress is inevitable and that the more technology you put into a car, the better and more advanced it is, so it's more desirable. That is partly true, but if you take a look at the history of the Morgan Motor Company, you'll see that there is another way. Read more » |
Jeep Baptizes New Cherokee as the "Zi You Guang" in China Posted: 17 Apr 2013 12:01 PM PDT China will be the first market outside of the United States to get its first view of the new and rather controversial looking, 2014 Jeep Cherokee, which will make its international debut at the 2013 Shanghai Auto Show on April 20. While the looks will remain the same, Jeep's local arm decided to name the SUV the "Zi You Guang", which, at least according to CarNewsChina, loosely translates to "Liberty Light", so in some ways, the new Cherokee keeps the name of its predecessor (called Liberty in North America). New Hyundai "Mini-Sonata" Reportedly Shown on Billboard Ahead of Shanghai Debut Posted: 17 Apr 2013 11:20 AM PDT From what we gather, the sedan is easily the most popular bodystyle in China, so a manufacturer can never really have too many of them, as long as they sell. Hyundai already delivers a variety of saloons in the People's Republic, but they decided that there was still room in the range, between the Sonata and Elantra for an additional model, dubbed "Mingtu". This is What Happens to a Miata when it Gets Too Close to a Corvette Posted: 17 Apr 2013 10:26 AM PDT The good thing about race-prepped cars and track circuits is that drivers can hone their skills and push their limits much, much higher than what they would ever attempt to do on a public road, in a completely legal manner and in a far more safer and controlled environment for the themselves and other motorists. The bad thing is that all of the above can actually make some drivers be less careful and more spontaneous, which can, of course, lead to trouble… Read more » |
New Jaguar F-Type Roadster Test Driven in Spain Posted: 17 Apr 2013 09:58 AM PDT Jaguar is slowly, but steadily providing its all-new Jaguar F-Type for tests with the UK's HonestJohn being one of the first to try out the roadster at a press event organized in Pamplona, Spain. Those who drove the F-Type did so in order of power outputs. First off was the 340PS (335hp) 3.0-liter V6, which apparently needs to be worked a bit, but that's not a chore since it gets paddle shifts – though, if left in automatic mode, it is apparently a bit indecisive. Mercedes-Benz to Present New Generation Unimog and Econic Trucks on Friday Posted: 17 Apr 2013 09:16 AM PDT Being such a large company, it won't come to as a surprise that Daimler has several projects running at the same time, some of which are scheduled to be presented within hours of each other. Right before the world premiere of the new Mercedes-Benz GLA Concept at the Shanghai Auto Show on Saturday, April 20, the German automaker's truck division will reveal the new generations of its hardy Unimog extreme off-roader series and Econic trucks. Spy Shots: Audi A8 to Receive an Ever So Light Facelift for 2014 Posted: 17 Apr 2013 07:42 AM PDT Much like its adversary with the blue and white roundel logo from Munich, Audi also tends to keep styling updates to a minimum when time comes to facelift its models. In fact, sometimes it's even hard to tell the differences between one generation from the other – the 2013 A3 hatch is one such example… In the case of the A8 flagship saloon, the mid-cycle update will bring some mild styling tweaks here and there, but you will have to be a dedicated fan of the brand to spot the differences. Self-Driving Cars Not Coming to Market Until 2025, Says Expert Posted: 17 Apr 2013 07:20 AM PDT If there's one thing that is for sure in the uncertain climate of the modern automotive industry, it's the fact that in the future we will choose if we want to actually drive our car, or not. Advancements in this area are already being made with Google's self-driving cars, as well as the slew of active and passive safety aids found on modern cars. Read more » |
New Photo Gallery of BMW's Sporty Looking X4 Crossover Concept Posted: 17 Apr 2013 06:47 AM PDT While BMW isn't willing to divulge anything new in the way of information about its X4 Concept car other than what it has already told us (we'll give you a summary further down), the Munich brand wants us to get a better view of the study with the release of a fresh gallery comprising more than 30 photos. These new pictures were published just a few days ahead of the X4 concept study's world premiere at the Auto China 2013 in Shanghai (April 20 to 29). Read more » |
Volvo S60 Polestar Enters Limited Production, But Only for Australia and With Less Oomph Posted: 17 Apr 2013 06:22 AM PDT Truth to be said, last year's S60 Polestar Performance Concept was a big success in terms of publicity for Volvo, with the one-off, 508-horsepower-strong sports sedan turning many heads towards the Swedish carmaker. To refresh your memory, said saloon was sold to an unnamed American collector for $300,000 or about €228,500 at today's exchange rates. At the time, both Volvo and its official racing and performance partner Polestar had said that they were considering a limited production run of the car. To some extent, the two companies have made that happen. Read more » |

Mercedes-Benz GLA Concept: First Official Photos of Compact Crossover Posted: 17 Apr 2013 05:15 AM PDT With only three days left for the grand opening of the Auto China 2013 in Shanghai this Saturday (April 20, 2013), the first official images of the Mercedes-Benz GLA compact crossover concept have made their way onto the web.
