BMW M3 E30 vs. Scion FR-S vs. VW Golf GTI in MT's Latest Head2Head Video Posted: 25 Apr 2013 05:55 PM PDT Fans of affordable sports cars have a new dilemma now that the Toyota FT-86/Scion FR-S/Subaru BR-Z trio has brought rear-wheel-drive into the equation. What's better: a front-wheel-drive hot hatch like the VW Golf GTI or a rear-wheel-drive coupe like the ones offered by the Japanese carmakers? To find the answer(s) to this question, two editors from MotorTrend and European Car took the Scion FR-S and the sixth-generation VW Golf GTI for a spin around the track. They also brought along a third car to the playground, the 1989 BMW M3 from the E30 generation, to serve as a benchmark. Read more » |
Travelling Back in Time: My Visit at the BMW Museum in Munich Posted: 25 Apr 2013 05:17 PM PDT For a car enthusiast, a trip to Munich is unconceivable without a stop at the BMW Museum. Its permanent exhibition hosts more than 120 automobiles, motorcycles and engines spanning nine decades of BMW brand history. For €9, which is equal to US$11.75, I had the chance to travel back in time and see how the BMW legend was born and developed into what is now the world's largest premium car manufacturer. This is not going to be an exhaustive presentation of my trip, however, as visiting an automobile museum is mostly a subjective experience, so I will only talk about the cars that impressed me the most. New Cadillac ATS Coupe Coming Next Year to Rival the BMW 4-Series Posted: 25 Apr 2013 04:54 PM PDT The Cadillac ATS has already caused quite a stir in the industry, ever since it went on sale. They even had to tone down the production of the CTS at the time of the ATS' launch, as it was stealing just so many of its sales. Now, its appeal will be even greater with the addition of a coupe variant, which has already been shown to US dealers, along with the redesigned Escalade. According to one of Carscoops' sources who has seen the car, the new ATS coupe "has the same door handles as the ATS sedan, rather than the recess "hidden" door handles on the current CTS coupe." Drivers Stop for a Funeral Procession and Almost Meet Their Maker Themselves… Posted: 25 Apr 2013 03:18 PM PDT Even if the law doesn't always state that traffic should come to a complete halt when meeting a funeral procession, many drivers choose to do so anyway as sign of respect to the deceased. We don't know which of the two applies in this incident that took place in Marion County, Tennessee, but in an ironic twist of fate, a funeral procession of a car accident victim was marred by a scary crash. Posted: 25 Apr 2013 02:21 PM PDT A camouflaged prototype of the new generation 2014 Range Rover Sport roaming outside the Nürburgring track caught the attention of our spy photographers, and all for good reason. On top of that, this particular prototype was wearing a modified front bumper with larger air inlets. There are no other visible differences from the production Range Rover Sport. Read more » |

How a Lamborghini Aventador SV and a Ferrari F12berlinneta Handle the 'Ring's Bumpy Karussell Posted: 25 Apr 2013 01:09 PM PDT Here's a video that Lamborghini fans will no doubt love to share with their Ferrari counterparts. Filmed by Nordschleife regulars from the YouTube channel "Bridge to Gantry", it shows what is believed to be a prototype for the Lamborghini Aventador SV (see our scoop pictures here) speeding through the Nürburgring's bumpalicsious Karussell bend, completely disregarding the painful and obviously costly scrapes to the extended front lip spoiler. Posted: 25 Apr 2013 11:57 AM PDT Michael Schumacher will become the second driver to tackle the Nürburgring Nordschleife in a modern Formula One car after Nick Heidfeld's 2007 lap in a BMW Sauber. Since 1976, when Niki Lauda suffered a horrible crash on the Nordschleife, the track was deemed too dangerous for Formula 1 racing and was taken out of the calendar. Read more » |

Next Jaguar XJ Not Getting Two Different Body Styles After All… Posted: 25 Apr 2013 09:05 AM PDT Not so long ago, we told you that, according to an Edmunds report, Jaguar was going to design two distinct body styles for the next generation of their XJ saloon. We explained that the move was motivated by the company's desire to make it in China, a country where the current model's bold lines and different look are not particularly appreciated – a more classic-looking design would have been preferred, and that, along with the fact that China is growing to be Jag's primary market probably sparked the rumors.
