There are BMW tuners and BMW tuners, and then there's Alpina; a company that works so closely with the Bavarian automaker that its cars are produced on the same assembly lines as the BMWs they are based on, and come with a full manufacturer's warranty.

Having launched two brand-new models in the past month, in particular the X3 diesel-based XD3 BiTurbo and the F30 3-Series sedan-based B3 BiTurbo, Alpina has now turned its focus on the next project based on the 650i Gran Coupe, and which judging by the company's nomenclature, will most likely be called the B6 BiTurbo Gran Coupe.

VW Fires 500 Workers at Chattanooga as it Overestimated Passat Sales

Volkswagen has just announced that it is terminating 500 contracts at its assembly plant in Chattanooga, Tennessee, according to an Autonews report. The reasons quoted are overly-optimistic expectations when the plant was first opened and the fact that they were already running overcapacity, making 170,000 cars per year – 20,000 over the original plan. Enter the new iBeetle Edition that's set for a global premiere at the Auto China 2013 in Shanghai this weekend. Icona Vulcano Revealed with Single Photo Shot from Above

This is the first complete image of the Vulcano supercar, built by Italian design firm Icona. The photo is still not very telling, but it does show the whole car. However, one can't get the sense of proportion, and make comments on its design, yet, because it only allows us to see the car in a top-down perspective, which currently makes it look a bit like a Lexus LF-A – we will have to wait for its show floor debut in Shanghai to be able to make accurate comments. Meet the New Lamborghini Aventador LP 720-4 50 Anniversario

After the new Veneno that was presented at the Geneva Auto Salon in March, Lamborghini continues the roll out of new models to celebrate its 50th birthday with a special edition version of the Aventador, aptly named, "LP 720-4 50 Anniversario", only hours ahead of the supercar's world premiere at the Shanghai Auto Show this weekend.

Only 100 units of the Aventador LP 720-4 50 Anniversario will be produced, each of which will come with a Forged Composite badge featuring the "50°" logo and a serial number.

Maserati Develops New Base Quattroporte with 326HP V6 for Chinese Market

This weekend's Shanghai Auto Show will see Maserati holding the world premiere of the new Ghibli premium mid-size sedan, but it won't be alone, as the Italian manufacturer announced today that it will be joined by a new entry-level edition of the new Quattroporte.

Maserati tells us that the base Quattroporte is fitted with a V6 engine producing 326-horsepower (243kW or 330PS), without providing further details about its specifications, but adding that this model was "specifically conceived and developed for the Chinese market".
