iDrive: Alfa Romeo Brera is Bold, Good Looking and Almost There

Posted: 24 Apr 2013 06:22 PM PDT

There are two basic categories of car buyers: the ones who view an automobile as a means of transportation and the enthusiasts. The first group walks into a purchase with their head firmly on their shoulders, considering things such as finance, depreciation and such before signing on the dotted line, while the latter let their heart rule their head.

Motoring journalists are, mostly, petrolheads and the crew here at CarScoops is no exception, thus we decided to seek cars that stir the emotions. The Italians undoubtedly do have a long tradition in this particular field; so, with Alfa Romeo getting ready for its big comeback, picking its last mass-production coupe, the Brera, was a natural choice.

Not Many Cars Look Good in White – Jay Leno’s Jaguar E-Type Does!

Posted: 24 Apr 2013 04:44 PM PDT

I firmly believe that the 1960s marked the peak of automotive design, and the Jaguar E-Type, or XKE as it's known in the US, is one of the finest examples of the era. No matter how hard Jaguar will try to "revive" it through the F-Type, they have failed to do so simply because modern regulations don't allow cars to look like they did 50 years ago… Read more »

Nissan Infographic Sheds Some Light on Headlamp Use Across the U.S.

Posted: 24 Apr 2013 04:23 PM PDT

Toyota isn't the only company releasing an infographic today as Nissan did the same, albeit for a very different reason.

Whereas Toyota did it to begin the countdown for the unveiling of the 2014 4Runner SUV this Saturday with some facts and figures about the previous generation models, Nissan wants to remind us of the availability of its Smart Auto Headlights on its Altima, Pathfinder and Sentra models, and at the same time, show us the headlight regulations by state.

Fiat is planning to turn around its entire range by projecting the Panda and the 500's image on its upcoming models, just like it recently did with the 500L small minivan. The Italian carmaker is preparing to launch the 500X small crossover and the 500XL, which is a 200-mm (7.9-in) longer, 7-seat version of the 500L. Read more »

What a McNutt! Repeat DUI Offender Smashes Into Five Cars on Idaho Highway

Posted: 24 Apr 2013 02:57 PM PDT

Drivers on Interstate 90 in the Coeur d'Alene area in Idaho had the fright of their life this past Sunday (April 21, 2013), when a Kia sedan driving erratically was involved in at least five accidents and plenty of near misses with other road-users, some of whom were driven off the highway.

Kon Shiva, the owner of a vehicle tinting shop in Spokane, was an eyewitness to the events and captured footage of the Kia driver as he was swinging on the road before he smashed into a blue Honda Civic and abandoned the scene with the cops right on his tail.

Fiat to Reportedly Model Its Entire Range Around the 500 and Panda by 2016

Posted: 24 Apr 2013 02:11 PM PDT

The bulk of Fiat brand's sales has been made up in recent years by just two models, the Panda and its posh sibling, the 500 – both based on the same architecture.

To emulate the success of these models in the upper segments, Fiat is said to be planning to model its entire range around the two city cars, according to a Car magazine report. The first result of this strategy is the 500L minivan, which borrows styling cues from the iconic 500, but plays in the league of B-segment MPVs.

OSS Designs and Vossen-Tuned Audi RS5 is One "Pissed-Off Stormtrooper" [w/Videos]

Posted: 24 Apr 2013 01:01 PM PDT

It hasn't been that long since we last heard of an Audi RS5 tune, but looking at what OSS Designs came up with for the German performance coupe, who can blame us for wanting to share this project?

Created with a little help from Vossen Wheels, which described the RS5 Coupe's angry looks as a "pissed off stormtrooper" in a nod to the white-clad elite soldiers of the Galactic Empire [sic] from the Star Wars movies, the Audi features a makeover that starts with the front end and OSS Designs' colorful (literally) LEDs that surround the factory lights.

Tesla Not Allowed to Sell Cars in Virginia

Posted: 24 Apr 2013 12:11 PM PDT

Tesla's idea of selling its cars by itself is a bold move, but not because it is anything particularly outrageous – it's just very uncommon for an automaker try and do this. Now, after winning the battle to sell cars in Massachusetts, their request to sell cars in the state of Virginia has been met with refusal by the local Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV). Posted: 24 Apr 2013 04:14 PM PDT

In a different twist to what we've come to expect from automakers when it comes to upcoming models, instead of dropping another teaser image of its soon-to-be released 2014 4Runner, Toyota opted to share an infographic containing some numbers about the mid-SUV's history, which will probably keep you interested for about 2 seconds…if you have nothing else to do. According to two unnamed sources quoted by Reuters, the Italian carmaker is in advanced talks with banks on financing to buy the remaining 41.5 percent of Chrysler. How do you keep interest up with exotic supercars of the likes of the Lamborghini Aventador and Gallardo if they remain in production for several years? Well, in order to convince wealthy consumers to take another look at is existing models, Lamborghini's solution is a mix of facelifts and a constant flow of different and/or special editions.

Cadillac Uses Humorous Ads to Show Off New ATS' Qualities

Posted: 24 Apr 2013 08:05 AM PDT

As far as the creativity of modern car ads goes, there are still very positive examples, and very negative ones. Thankfully, Cadillac has succeeded in making their promotional campaign for the ATS sedan just as bold and refreshing as the car itself.

They destroy several luxury objects by putting them through the same tests the ATS was subjected to, in order to test out their durability. Predictably, all get destroyed in the process, thus proving the car's credentials…somehow.

Infiniti G35 Coupe, Where Do You Think You're Going?

Posted: 24 Apr 2013 06:42 AM PDT

Here's a video shot in the city of Almaty in Kazakhstan that has us kind of baffled, in the sense that we're not sure how the driver of the Infiniti G35 Coupe (unless we're mistaken and it's a G37 Coupe) ended up on the guard rails.

At around the 15-second mark, we see the Japanese coupe entering the main road, but instead of turning, the driver heads straight and violently smashes into the metal rails, with the car then pushing out tons of smoke.

New Toyota ME.WE Concept is What You Get When You Let an Architect Design a Car

Posted: 24 Apr 2013 06:17 AM PDT

Automotive designers and architects are two different breeds of artists, who seldom cross paths. For whatever reason, Toyota wanted to bring the two different worlds together and create a special concept named ME.WE., which is the outcome of collaboration between its ED2 European Design studio in Nice, France, and French architect Jean-Marie Massaud.

So what is the ME.WE Concept? Well, Toyota describes it as being a pick-up, convertible, off-roader and small city car in one, adding that, "It is a no-extras package, conceived as an 'anti-excess' vehicle. In short, the Toyota ME.WE represents the transition from the culture of 'more' to the culture of 'better'".

BMW Reportedly Considering 1-Series and/or…MINI Sedans

Posted: 24 Apr 2013 05:13 AM PDT

The Chinese love sedans with lots of knee room in the back, and the BMW 1-Series is/has neither of those things. It is currently sold in the country, but a sedan model based on it would boost sales considerably, as it could be sold at a lower price than the 3-Series, and the all-important badge would reel in the customers.

Now, it has been revealed that this is more than just pure speculation, as Autoexpress has learnt that such a model is actually being considered.
