Honda Presents All-New Civic Tourer with More Luggage Space than VW Golf Variant [w/Video]

Posted: 10 Aug 2013 04:15 PM PDT

The great thing about releasing a new model in August before the alternating Frankfurt and Paris Motor Shows in September is that you gain more attention from the press and consequently, readers and consumers. The negative aspect, of course, is that most of the times, everyone loses interest about said product by the time the show comes.

In the case of Honda, the Japanese automaker decided that for its brand-new Civic Tourer, it would be wiser to reveal the compact station wagon to the online world now, several weeks ahead of the Frankfurt auto show.

Developed, designed and built in Europe for the estate-hungry local market, the Civic Tourer is the production version of the Civic Wagon Concept model displayed at the Geneva Salon in March this year. As we noted at the time, the road-going car has dropped some of the concept's fancier styling elements, including the big wheels, LED lights and the sweet looking rear diffuser with the central-mounted tailpipes, but otherwise, it remains the same.

What is that you say – the Mazda concept pictured above kind of reminds you of a Tesla? Well, that may partially hold true for the front-end aesthetics, but the rest of the body has nice edgy shape to it that manages to neatly hide the fact that it's a practical hatchback with seating for 6 or rather, 3+3.

The name of the study is Mazda Deep Orange. It was built by engineering students at the Clemson University International Center for Automotive Research (CU-ICAR), and designed by student Frederick Naaman at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California, with Mazda overseeing the project.

Posted: 10 Aug 2013 09:34 AM PDT

"Wow" is the first word that comes to mind after watching this video of a giant water-bombing aircraft dropping a gush of water and fire retardant on a grader and a transport truck in rural Canada.

Before you question the rationale of flying a firefighting airplane to an automotive accident scene, you may want to know that local authorities made the decision because the crash between the grader and the truck occurred in a remote location on the Trans-Labrador Highway and emergency vehicles were miles away.
