Volvo's Stunning New Concept Coupe Revives the P1800 Spirit [64 Photos & Video]

Posted: 28 Aug 2013 04:07 PM PDT

We can't really remember the last time that a Volvo truly made our heart miss a beat, but it seems to be succeeding in doing so with its spanking-new Concept Coupé that was revealed today following a series of mischievous teasers, and ahead of its world premiere at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September.

It's the first Volvo to be penned under the direction of the Swedish brand's new design chief Thomas Ingenlath and also the first of a series of three concept cars that portray the design possibilities created by the automaker's new Scalable Product Architecture (SPA) that frees it from the limitations of its Ford-sourced platforms.

The concept is both elegant and dynamic, but what really makes it stand out are the understated styling references to the P1800 (built from 1961 to 1973), which capture the essence of Volvo's classic coupe without falling into the retro trap.

Posted: 28 Aug 2013 03:30 PM PDT

Following the trailer released earlier this month, the mysterious "TaxTheRich100" YouTube channel uploaded a new video called "Jaguar Joyride", featuring the XJ220 supercar.

As with previous videos in which two Ferrari F50s and a Rolls-Royce Phantom were hooned in the most unlikely surroundings, the XJ220 is not spared the "farm" treatment either. The video shows a young boy who finds an XJ220 in a barn near a tractor, with a tablet computer in front of it.

US Safety Official Proposes That Google Self-Driving Cars Also Record Driver

Posted: 28 Aug 2013 02:32 PM PDT

The year 2013's most hotly debated topic so far is the privacy scandal sparked by former NSA employee turned whistleblower Edward Snowden, and his contested revelations.

We now bring your attention to Google, one of the names thrown around in the NSA leaks scandal mentioned above, which would like, as per the proposition of top US safety official Deborah Hersman, to also have its self-driving cars record every little move that the owner makes. The argument for is that most new cars are already fitted with some kind of black box, while the argument against infers that not only is the latter completely wrong, but that data gathering has no place fitted to self-driving vehicles either.

Lady Stands Her Ground and Won't Let U.S. Border Officers Check Her Car

Posted: 28 Aug 2013 11:59 AM PDT

We don't know if we should admire or take this female driver's tenacity against a group of U.S. border patrol officers lightly and crack a smile at the whole situation that erupted when she refused to let them take a look into her car at a border checkpoint.

The woman was behind the wheel with her friend (or husband, we don't know) filming the incident from the passenger seat. When the first officer comes over, he orders her to park her car in a designated area to which she replies, "No, are you detaining me? Am I free to go?"

I don't really know what caused the Kia Soul to be such a big hit in the US. Was it all down to the hamster marketing, or did the car's qualities also come into play? It's a good, if a bit awkwardly styled hatchback masquerading as a crossover with an attractive price tag which has been completely redesigned and reengineered for the new generation, though the familiar shape is still there. New Saleen Supercar Is Coming In Two Years

Posted: 28 Aug 2013 09:47 AM PDT

The Saleen S7, made until 2009 in twin-turbo form, was a real beast of a supercar in its final days pushing 1,000 hp with the optional Competition Package specified. However, while it may have been very fast (the fastest production car made in the US at the time, in fact), it was also hugely expensive – the carbon fiber bodywork alone cost Saleen $100,000 per car… Read more »
