Spied: Ford Brings Out 2015 Mustang Prototype

Posted: 10 Jun 2013 05:58 PM PDT

We've heard a lot about the new Mustang and we'll no doubt hear more in the upcoming moths leading to its world premiere in 2014 – some say at next year's Detroit Motor Show in January, but we wouldn't be surprised if Ford chooses the New York Auto Show in April (press days on April 16-17) since the original was presented at the World's Fair in New York, on April 17, 1964.

While we've seen spy photos of the 2015 Mustang before, those cars were test mules. The one you see here is believed to be hiding the actual bodywork of the 6th generation model. However, the use of pads under the wraps on most sections of the body, including the roof, don't allow for any conclusive remarks on its styling.

If your curiosity is killing you, you can take a look at these renders created by Carscoops' own Josh Byrnes who made them after talking to sources who have seen some of the actual pre-production prototypes.

Besides the modern looks with retro styling cues, the next Mustang, which is codenamed S550, is said to finally adopt an independent rear suspension and a turbocharged four-cylinder EcoBoost engine that will help Ford infiltrate other markets outside North America including Europe.

BMW M3 Driver is Surprised by Tight Corner and Dives Off a Cliff

Posted: 10 Jun 2013 04:50 PM PDT

Some say that BMW M3 drivers don't have a good reputation and the following video will do nothing to change their perception. Quite the contrary, actually, as driving hard on a twisty mountain road that one doesn't know is clearly not something a clever and cautious person would do.

Filmed by a camera mounted on the car's rear lateral window, the video shows the driver of an E46 BMW M3 Coupe pushing the gas pedal to the metal on a winding road in Arizona in pursuit of an E92 BMW M3. He is clearly driving faster than his abilities and at one point is surprised by a tight right turn. Given the high entry speed, it's not much of a surprise that the car understeers and rolls over down the cliff.

Crazy Mid-Engined RWD Volkswagen GTI with 800HP Could be Yours for $60,000

Posted: 10 Jun 2013 04:20 PM PDT

Heavily modifying a car from its stock form will obviously negate the combined efforts of the manufacturers to make their cars safer, greener and easier to drive. In fact, in the case of a front-wheel drive car, moving the engine to the middle and redirecting drive to the back means that, mechanically-speaking, the car is a completely different beast altogether compared to the model it shares its basic body shell with.

This Mk. 4 VW GTI / Golf GTI recently caught our eye, as it uses a 2.7-liter V6 Audi engine, which has been bored and stroked to 3.0-liters and fitted with a big turbo. It churns out around 800-horses, but could go even higher with a different turbocharger. Did we mention that is positioned where the rear seat bench used to be?

McLaren MP4-12C Matches the Nissan GT-R’s 0 to 60 MPH Time of 2.8 Seconds [w/Videos]

Posted: 10 Jun 2013 03:50 PM PDT

According to official data from McLaren, the MP4-12C sports car covers the sprint from 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h) in 3.1 seconds. Naturally, the car should accelerate to 60 mph (96 km/h) slightly quicker, but by which margin? Well, the people at Drag Times put the MP4-12C to the test and found out the car accelerates from standstill to 60 mph in an impressive 2.8 seconds.

This matches the time set by a 2012 Nissan GT-R, also tested by Drag Times. Taking into account that the Nissan has an advanced AWD system and a brutal 4,100rpm launch control, the McLaren's result is even more impressive.

Yes, It Happened Again: Carjacker Gets Ride from Victim Because He Couldn’t Drive Stick…

Posted: 10 Jun 2013 03:30 PM PDT

It's funny how certain events have a tendency to follow a particular pattern when they happen. Take US carjackings, for instance. In the slim likelihood that the victim's car has a gear selector stick and a third pedal, this could fluster the 'jacker, if his knowledge of driving a car extends to putting it in D – if this occurs, a predictable pattern will become apparent. Hyundai Reportedly Working on EV to Please California Regulators

Posted: 10 Jun 2013 03:07 PM PDT

Hyundai has made it clear that its main focus when it comes to green means of propulsion are hydrogen fuel-cells, which they are currently perfecting and improving, so that the system will one day become viable for a reasonably-priced road car.

However, if they want to please regulators in California, where the law states that manufacturers must have some EVs in their lineup, they may be forced to make a battery-powered all-electric of their own.

First Official Video of 2014 Need for Speed Movie

Posted: 10 Jun 2013 02:35 PM PDT

Over the past few months, we've seen photographs (scoops, if you will), and even a couple of videos from the film sets of the Need for Speed movie, which is scheduled for release in March 2014, but they were all shot by fans, nothing official, until earlier today, when Ford shared a picture of the hero car, a specially designed, wide-body 2013 Mustang.

If that picture got your engines running, then the first official video from the makers of the movie will surely hit some high revs.

Unbelievable: Teen Jumps Moving Car, Hits Windshield, Flips Over and Lands on His Feet!

Posted: 10 Jun 2013 02:07 PM PDT

After watching this video, you'll probably be wondering if this guy is for real – and by that, we mean if this is a genuine incident and not a digitally manipulated one (you can never be sure this day and age), and if so, how can one be so foolish to attempt this kind of a stunt?

The guy, who looks like he is in his late teens, had a female friend drive her Nissan Sentra while he was running towards the car and then tried to jump or rather run over it, but he stumbled on the bonnet and hit his knee of the windshield, which caused him to flip over in the process. Unbelievably, he landed on his feet!

Nissan Reportedly Reworking Dacia Duster into a New Terrano

Posted: 10 Jun 2013 01:40 PM PDT

Dacia has won a lot of praise for its honestly priced lineup of cars, which have convinced many buyers that "cheap doesn't mean bargain basement." The Duster, which is also badged as a Renault in some markets, including Russia and India, is gaining popularity, and its reviews are generally positive.

Now, Nissan reportedly wants its own version of the 4x4, which it will name the Terrano, reviving an older nameplate, used from 1993 to 2006. Autocar India is sure of this, adding that the Nissan model will be around $1,000 more expensive than the vehicle on which it's based. The report seems to confirm a pair of patent pictures of a Nissan-faced Duster that appeared online earlier this year.

Scoop: 2015 Toyota Prius Hybrid Looks the Same on the Outside, Different Inside, or is it?

Posted: 10 Jun 2013 01:13 PM PDT

The Prius isn't Toyota's best-selling (yet) or oldest nameplate, but it's a car that crafted a new niche in its segment and single-handedly made hybrids popular all over the world, forcing many other carmakers to follow the Japanese brand's lead.

Every generation of the Prius (there have been three up until now), improves upon the previous and increases its market share, and we don't expect anything less from the new model that should arrive by 2015.

BMW 2-Series Test Vehicle Removes 50 Meters of Guardrail in High-Speed Autobahn Crash

Posted: 10 Jun 2013 11:33 AM PDT

The life of a factory test driver in Germany must be an eventful one. Driving prototypes all day long, up and down the autobahn, and whatever speed is relevant for any given test. However, things don't always go according to plan during these high-speed tryouts of new cars, as was the case with this BMW 2-Series prototype which removed 50 meters (165 feet!) of guardrail on the A72 Autobahn.

Details are sparse, but it would appear that the vehicle was being driven fast, when something happened, which lead to it mowing down the metallic barrier and spreading bits of itself over a 150-meter (490-foot) area, also launching projectiles/shrapnel at cars coming the other way – the damage to other vehicles wasn't extensive, though.

Russian Driver Makes a Run for it After Speeding Past Cop, First on Wheels, Then on Foot…

Unless you have the eyesight of a hawk or a radar detector, there's not much you can do after a police officer locks you in on his radar. Basically, you have two options; slow down and wait for a cop to pull you over and hand you a pink slip himself, or continue on your way and wait for the ticket to arrive at your home.

For some unexplained reason, the driver and passenger of the dash-cam equipped car who flew by a Russian policeman who clocked them going 180km/h (112mph) on his radar, chose a third option…

Mercedes-Benz's AMG division is well aware of the fact that they are somewhat diluting the brand with the A45 AMG. Here they are taking three letters that they have built up into a V8- and V12- powered performance brand over many years and slapping them on the back of a very flashy-looking hatchback. It has to be really good not to be bashed. Read more »

VW XL1 Hybrid Falls Close to 40 Percent Short of Economy Claims in Automobile Mag Test

Posted: 10 Jun 2013 07:34 AM PDT

Volkswagen made big claims about the efficiency of their purpose-built XL1 diesel-hybrid. They claimed the car was good for 261 mpg US, which equates to 0.9 l/100km in the Metric system.  However, at a recent test drive event organized by VW, a handful of journalists were given the chance to drive the mid-engined XL1, so that they could share their thoughts.

Automobile Magazine was also represented at the event, and their own test reveals something very interesting about the XL1. Sure, it's very efficient, because it was specifically built with that purpose in mind, but it's not as near as efficient as the lab tests would have you believe.

Mind you, the Mustang hero-car featured in the film is not your run-of-the mill pony car, but a Ford-designed special model. Today, the Blue Oval released the first picture of the movie car that will be driven in the film by the protagonist and 'Breaking Bad' star, Aaron Paul.
