Mercedes A45 AMG Easily Beats BMW M135i and VW Golf GTI in Comparison Test

Posted: 26 Jun 2013 05:08 PM PDT

The following comparison test from Autocar couldn't bring together more different types of hot-hatches. For starters, there's the all-wheel-drive Mercedes A45 AMG powered by a turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder unit developing 355 horsepower (360PS). Then there's the rear-wheel-drive BMW M135i powered by a turbocharged 3.0-liter straight-six engine that churns out 316 hp (320PS). Finally, the most curious choice of the test is the VW Golf GTI Performance, a front-wheel-drive 227hp (230PS) car powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine. Read more »

Original Porsche 959 Converted Into a Speedster Up for Sale for a Cool Million or So

Posted: 26 Jun 2013 04:37 PM PDT

Although Porsche never officially built a drop-top version of the 959 supercar, it doesn't mean that other people didn't think about doing it. We have the proof right here - a white 959 that has surfaced for sail in Italy.

Even though at first we were tempted to think this was a 959 replica, a closer look and some "forum digging" revealed this is very likely a genuine 959 – at least from the waist down.

China's BAIC Looking to Buy one of Three Suitable European Automakers

Posted: 26 Jun 2013 04:08 PM PDT

As Chinese automakers grow (locally) and acquire more money, their expansionist tendencies will begin to take hold and what better market to concentrate on than the mature and traditional, but currently cash-strapped Europe.

Since Geely bought Volvo, we have become used to the idea of foreign ownership of an old European manufacturer. In fact, Volvo is on the road to doing quite well, even though they are not really there yet, I think, especially not with their limited lineup of models.

Watch Germans Blow Up Old Sinntal Bridge Located Next to a New Bridge on the Autobahn

Posted: 26 Jun 2013 03:33 PM PDT

There's nothing new or particularly special about demolishing a bridge nowadays, unless, that is, it is located next to a structure you want to protect…like, oh, let's say, an adjacent bridge, which you will agree, ups the challenge multiple times. Read more »

eBay: Own The Lime-Green Mitsubishi Evo that Paul Walker Drove in 2 Fast 2 Furious

Posted: 26 Jun 2013 01:37 PM PDT

If you ask me, the second movie in the Fast and Furious franchise, called "2 Fast 2 Furious", was by no means a worthy successor to the original. The choice of cars was silly (pink convertible Mitsubishi Eclipse among others), and so were the incoherent plot and contrived story. Read more »

All-New 2014 Audi A3 Saloon Video Reviewed

Posted: 26 Jun 2013 01:01 PM PDT

All Audi's cars look pretty much the same, and all drive with pretty much the same road-pounding attitude, and none aside from the R8 offer any real tactile feedback through the steering wheel. There's also no noticeable gap in quality between any of the models in the range, and therefore the new A3 sedan/saloon is an interesting and cheaper alternative to the A4. Read more »

Next Porsche Panamera to Share Platform with the Future Bentley Continental

Posted: 26 Jun 2013 12:08 PM PDT

When the second-generation Porsche Panamera launches sometime by mid-decade it will use a common platform with the third-generation Bentley Continental family.

According to a report from Edmunds, the 2016 Porsche Panamera will use a special version of VW Group's front-engine rear-wheel-drive MSB body architecture. The next-generation Panamera, which is expected to be largely influenced by the Panamera Sport Turismo Concept (pictured above and below) that was revealed last year at the Paris auto show, will keep the current car's layout. This means it will continue to have four low-mounted seats and a central tunnel running through the cockpit.

Did This Russian Driver Really Fill Up a Car With Concrete Because It Was Blocking Him?

Posted: 26 Jun 2013 11:34 AM PDT

You'll forgive us for being a bit skeptical about this bizarre incident, purportedly filmed in Russia, as it's not every day that someone calls a concrete mixer to fill up a car because it was blocking the way…

In the video posted online, we watch the driver of a white Chrysler 300 approaching a blue sedan that had parked right in front of him. He then smashed the mirror before breaking the window – all while we hear the two people who were filming the scene giggling their heads off.

Citroen Releases Details and First Official Images for the Grand C4 Picasso [42 Photos + Video]

Posted: 26 Jun 2013 11:11 AM PDT

In case you are unfamiliar with Citroen's model designations, if you add 'Grand' in front of 'C4 Picasso', that means you get a bigger body, which can accommodate three rows of seats, thus being able to seat seven.

Now there's a new one, which has the same basic concept as its predecessor, yet wrapping it all up in a quirkily-styled package, with a much cleaner and simpler-looking interior than before, and the same basic range of proven engines.

2014 Mazda3 Hatch: The Official Details on the U.S. Specification Model

Posted: 26 Jun 2013 10:40 AM PDT

Despite the leaked images earlier today, Mazda hasn't officially released the new "3" on its press website yet, but much in the same way as Mercedes did with the SLC AMG scoop shots, it has provided the official release to its media-partners (that doesn't sound right, and it's not…) like Autoblog.com.

Since we've already seen what the compact hatchback looks like inside and out with this author's opinion being a very positive one based on the images alone (I'll wait for a real life look at the car for the final judgment), we'll concentrate on the details and especially the ones for the U.S. specification model referenced in the press release.

If you're a fan of the manly roar produced by a good 'ol American V8 engine, then you're going to like what you hear in this fresh video that was brought to our attention by the pony car fans over at Mustang6g.

Spy photographers were on the tail of a prototype of the upcoming 2015 Ford Mustang in GT guise, with the tester behind the wheel trying to outrun them, all while keeping it civilized and legal – or so it seems.

Honda Launches New Crider in China Filling the Gap Between Civic and Accord [63 Photos]

Posted: 26 Jun 2013 09:02 AM PDT

The final production version of Honda's all-new Crider middle class sedan landed in the brand's Chinese showrooms today. Designed exclusively for customers in China, Honda's press blurb states that the Crider targets "those who were born in 1980s, known for the energetic pursuit of their dreams".

Whereas last year's Crider Concept not only captured our attention but also managed to impress us if you exclude the overly detailed front end, the real-life model is simply put, a mundane exercise on the Civic formula with a rather awkward looking profile – at least with these wheels and nose.

Mercedes Boss Says S-Class Pullman will Rival Rolls-Royce Phantom

Posted: 26 Jun 2013 08:36 AM PDT

With the demise of the Maybach brand, Daimler has been left without a player in the top segment of luxury cars, where the Rolls-Royce Phantom is now virtually on its own. One could say the Bentley Mulsanne is up there too, but I for one (and RR too), see it more as competitor for the Ghost than the monumental Phantom.

However, it looks like the Phantom will soon have competition, since the all-new Mercedes-Benz S-Class will spawn a Pullman model that will act as the flagship of the brand. In an interview with Autocar, Daimler CEO Dieter Zetsche has confirmed that the S-Class Pullman will be aimed at the Rolls-Royce Phantom.

Driver Sends New BMW Straight Into the Water to Avoid a Squirrel

Posted: 26 Jun 2013 07:18 AM PDT

Squirrels are thought of as being one of the cutest and most innocent of the woodland critters, so when one runs in front of your brand new BMW, of course you are going to try to avoid it, even if you run the risk of driving right into a lake and completely totaling your ride. This is what happened close to (and eventually in) San Diego's Mission bay according to U-T San Diego. Read more »

Scooped and Official: Citroen's New Seven-Seater C4 Grand Picasso

Posted: 26 Jun 2013 06:51 AM PDT

With the brand-new five-seater C4 Picasso's face already out in the open, Citroen is now concentrating on the release of its longer and more spacious sibling, the seven-seater C4 Grand Picasso. Carscoops reader Ludovic sent us a scanned page from the French car magazine Auto Journal with the first official photos of the versatile family MPV, and some details, though; we couldn't make out the main text and numbers.

A search on the interwebs landed us on the Planete-Citroen forums where member Frédoën shared a handful of pictures of the new C4 Grand Picasso that he nabbed parked outside a furniture store in eastern France without a single drop of camouflage.

All-New 2014 Mazda3 Leaks Ahead of Official Reveal in All Its Kodo Design Glory

Posted: 26 Jun 2013 06:02 AM PDT

The all-new Mazda3 has been leaked online by the Czech website Autoforum, with the photo gallery also containing technical data charts of the new Japanese compact car.

As Carscoop's artist Josh Byrnes predicted, the Mazda3 builds on the Kodo design theme from the Mazda6, with the two cars sharing many design elements such as the flowing curved lines above the front and rear fenders, the harmonious combination between the grille and the sharp headlights and the plunged bonnet.

On the inside, the Mazda3 features an all-new minimalistic dashboard that reminds a little of the one from the Audi A3, due to the layout and the pop-up touchscreen. It looks like an ergonomic dashboard, with the controls being clearly delimitated.

The car is slightly wider than the previous generation, with the width being of 1,765 mm (+10mm), while it is 20mm lower (1,450 mm). The length stays roughly the same, at 4,465 mm. It also has a larger wheelbase by 60 mm (2,700 mm), which benefits especially the rear passengers. Boot volume is 350 liters (+10 liters than before), 30 liters smaller than the C segment's reference, the VW Golf hatchback.
