BMW Puts All Three X5 Generations Side by Side, Which One Gets Your Vote?

Posted: 05 Jun 2013 05:36 PM PDT

Following the reveal of the third-generation X5, BMW thought it would be a good idea to reunite all three generations of its Sports Activity Vehicle in a video presentation.

Alongside the new model, we get to see the E53 BMW X5, launched in 1999 and the E70 BMW X5, launched in 2006. Entitled "A Work of Progress," the video underlines the evolution of the X5, something that is visible in the design of the three generations put side by side.

How Do Europeans View the Ford F-150 Pickup Truck?

Posted: 05 Jun 2013 05:05 PM PDT

The Ford F-150 – or any full-size pickup truck, for that matter – is a rare and ultimately, curious sight in Europe. Owning one certainly requires a major commitment for someone living in the Old Continent, as high fuel prices and very narrow city roads make it particularly difficult to enjoy or even use the F-150 on a daily basis. MINI Says Happy Birthday to Porsche 911 with Special Photo Shoot

Posted: 05 Jun 2013 04:30 PM PDT

Well, now, isn't that sweet? Mini, the British brand that descended into the ownership of the BMW Group in 1994, is paying tribute to the 50th anniversary of the Porsche 911 sports car series with a dedicated photo shoot that brings together a classic Mini and a first gen 911 Targa, both sporting a similar, and may we add, rather lively, lime-yellow finish. Surprise! The Real Party Crashers Captured on Dashcam

Posted: 05 Jun 2013 04:05 PM PDT

I can't quite make the license plates from the cars seen in this video, but it looks like this incident happened in the U.S. or in Canada. The tan metallic Infiniti is the first of the cars you see, and along with a white Volvo XC90, it's trying to cross an intersection at roughly the same time, from opposite directions. Read more »

Is Ford Looking to Kill Off the Ka Mini?

Posted: 05 Jun 2013 03:42 PM PDT

The future of Ford's smallest vehicle, the Ka city car, doesn't look too promising. According to a Ford senior marketing executive, the Ka has been left out of a new, brand-wide advertising campaign, which could mean the minicar will be discontinued.

"For quite a long time we have not produced new advertising. It is considered a stand-alone vehicle," Elena Cortesi, Ford of Europe's director of social media, was quoted as saying by AutoNews Europe.

Check Out the New Ford Mustang V6-Powered Radical RXC Coupe

Posted: 05 Jun 2013 02:49 PM PDT

Radical doesn't normally make coupes, or ones with proper road-car engines as a matter of fact. However, with their new RXC, the very latest model, the aim is to have a good balance of road and track performance, and while the car may not be fully ready for sale, the hard work has been done, and fine-tuning is what's been left to do. Alpine Looking to Follow Porsche Role Model and Hopefully Achieve Acclaim That Way

Posted: 05 Jun 2013 02:12 PM PDT

Porsche has always said that they build all models aside from the 911 to help their iconic sports car remain at the cutting edge. They say that they have to sell cars like the Cayenne and Panamera in order to help fund the ongoing improvement of their rear-engined halo car.

Now comes a brand that has just had almost two decades-worth of dust blown off its name with a relatively recent concept looking to adopt the same tactic in order to prevail. Of course, I am talking about Alpine.

MINI Tells Mexican Women to Either Drive or Put On Makeup, Not Both

Posted: 05 Jun 2013 01:38 PM PDT

One of the less frequently talked-about reasons why many (women) drivers take their eyes off the road and hands off the wheel while operating their vehicle (and crash), is putting on makeup.

If you thought that sexist ads were dead, highly-illegal and frowned-upon by society, think again, because this latest MINI ad from Mexico is squarely aimed at telling women to either drive or put on makeup.

New Photo of the 2014 Toyota Corolla or Another False Alarm?

Posted: 05 Jun 2013 01:00 PM PDT

With many websites and forums trying to capitalize on the popularity of upcoming models like the 2014 Toyota Corolla, one can never be sure about genuineness of pictures floating around the net these days.

We've already seen renderings of Toyota's compact sedan model trying to be passed on as real photos, so understandably, we're not going to jump into any conclusions yet about this new image that was sent to us by Miro Mihalik from the Czech website Autoweb. Miro said that it is the first picture of the European specification Corolla.

Train Horn Drive-by Pranksters Scare the Bejesus Out of Pedestrians and Drive-Thru Workers

Some kids never grow up – which can be rather unfortunate for others if they happen to reach the age when the law allows them to operate machines like an automobile.

That said, enter the very loud and annoying (for anyone outside their cars) world of the train-horn pranksters featured on the YouTube channel "tdwpplaya".

Tesla Confirms Cheaper EV Model for 2016, Musk Says it will Cost Half the Price of Model S

Posted: 05 Jun 2013 11:32 AM PDT

Elon Musk, the visionary entrepreneur behind PayPal, SpaceX and Tesla Motors, has provided some new information while also confirming other details about his automotive venture's plans, during Tesla Motor's annual shareholder meeting on Tuesday.

Perhaps the most important bit of news shared by Musk was the confirmation of a smaller battery-powered model, currently known as the Gen III. "It will probably arrive at the end of 2016 I would say - the third generation vehicle, or the vehicle that is in a lot of ways a smaller version of the Model S at about half the price".

Following the introduction of Opel's (Vauxhall in the UK) new 1.6-liter turbocharged gasoline engine on the Astra five-door and wagon models, it is time now for the Astra GTC to get the new unit.

Replacing the 1.6 Turbo, the all-new 1.6 SIDI Turbo (Spark Ignition Direct Injection) engine develops 170 PS (168 hp) and 260 Nm (192 lb-ft) of torque, available between 1,650 and 3,200 rpm. An overboost function lifts torque to 280 Nm (206 lb-ft), which temporarily gives the vehicle an extra burst that is useful when overtaking for example.

Out of Control SUV on Two Wheels Narrowly Misses Smart Coupe but Ploughs into Camera Car

Posted: 05 Jun 2013 08:16 AM PDT

Usually, the bigger a vehicle is, the safer it is, and this it is the reason behind soccer moms buying large minivans and SUVs to make the classic school run.

However, what soccer moms and others who buy SUVs and MPVs for safety reasons don't really realize is that, while they may carry more inertia during a head-on crash, for example, and will dislodge the other smaller vehicle and let it absorb more of the damage, the center of gravity is considerably higher than in an average sedan, and the vehicle is harder to control and more prone to crashing in the first place.

Chances of you having seen a real-life Lada on the road in the US are very slim, because they were only brought over as private imports, so they are extremely sparse Stateside.

However, you can own a mint example of a 1980 Lada 2101, which is up for grabs on eBay, and while you won't enjoy the best of driving dynamics or comfort features, your ride will stand out with its...ahem...Italian styling since it was based on a Fiat.

Renault Design Chief Says Espace MPV will be Replaced by a Large Crossover

Posted: 05 Jun 2013 06:29 AM PDT

Europe's first modern-day minivan (there had been previous attempts like the 1956 Fiat 600 Mulitpla) will soon be put to rest, at least in its current form, according to Renault design chief, Laurens van den Acker, who told Autonews Europe that the French carmaker will replace the Espace with a crossover model combining styling and practical elements from SUVs and MPVs (Multi-Purpose Vehicle).

What this means is that the Espace's successor will attempt to keep the interior spaciousness and practicality of the current model while placing it under a more SUV-like body with a higher driving position.

These are good times for those wealthy enough to purchase a hypercar, and despite many regions of the world battling it out with an acute state of economic uncertainty, the market still offers up a wide selection to choose from.

For the more discerning and restrained older customer, there is the Bugatti Veyron – the classic choice, while for the more flamboyant (Oriental) buyer there is the 100th car Koenigsegg has ever built, the suggestively-named Agera S Hundra. Well, actually not this particular one, because its gold-laden interior is going to be used by a wealthy Malaysian collector who commissioned it for himself.

New Skoda Octavia RS Revealed, Offered With 217HP Petrol and 181HP Diesel Engines

Posted: 05 Jun 2013 04:49 AM PDT

The Skoda Octavia RS (dubbed vRS in Britain) has been a very eagerly anticipated car for 2013, and now it's here, in all its subtle glory. It looks exactly like you would imagine it to, it has the 220 PS (217 hp) we were expecting it to have, and its exterior modifications over the regular Octavia are visible, but they are characteristically subtle, again, like you were expecting.

If you were anticipating it to reach 62 mph or 100 km/h in just under 7 seconds, your guess was spot on, as it does it only two tenths faster than that at 6.8 seconds. Top speed is 155 mph (248 km/h). These figures are for the 2.0-liter petrol engine, while the other (predictable) option, the 2.0-liter diesel with 184 PS (181 hp) is a bit slower, but a lot more economical. It deals with the benchmark sprint in 8.1 seconds, and its top speed is 145 mph or 232 km/h.
