| Future Cars: Drafting a Modern Light-Duty Pickup Truck for Ford Posted: 21 Jun 2013 05:05 PM PDT  Ever since the demise of the much loved Ford Ranger from U.S. soil, fans of the small pickup have been crying out for a replacement. Rather than taking on the Australian designed and developed 'global' T6 Ranger, the Dearborn-based manufacturer decided to pull out of the more compact pickup market altogether in its home market, leaving buyers little choice - go F-Series or go elsewhere. This is all fine and dandy if you don't mind the size of the bigger F-150, however for many that vehicle is far too big for their needs. Ford's argument for not bringing in the global Ranger is that it's too close in size to the F-Series - a point that I tend to agree with. Having climbed over, sat in and prodded the world Ranger in the flesh, it's easy to see why Ford thinks it would cannibalize sales of its No.1 chart-topper. Read more »       |

Running a red light is all the more dangerous if you're on a motorcycle. A car will have no trouble displacing the weight of a motorbike or scooter, and either it or you may be thrown far away, especially if you were really gunning for that light, and you end up going a bit too fast through the intersection. | Nissan Reveals Plan to Replace Worn Out Batteries for its Leaf EV Posted: 21 Jun 2013 01:46 PM PDT  The battery pack in the Nissan Leaf failed to impress in the hottest of climates, like the US states of Arizona and Texas, where owners reported significant capacity losses. Truth is, though, the batteries are going to eventually fade out anyway - it's what batteries do, and while the process can be slowed down (by keeping them at their ideal temperature), it cannot be stopped. Nissan is fully aware of this, and has announced a program to swap out used batteries for new ones, specifically for the brand's US customers. Set to commence in the first half of 2014, it will come to compliment the warranty already in place for the power storage unit (five years or 60,000 miles for capacity loss and eight years and 100,000 miles for defects). | Is Jaguar Planning a 700HP RS Version of the New F-Type Coupe? Posted: 21 Jun 2013 01:21 PM PDT  If we are to believe the report from Auto Express, Jaguar will introduce a range-topping F-Type Coupe that will develop no less than 700 horsepower. Compared to Porsche's most powerful 911, the Turbo S, the hot F-Type Coupe would have an extra 147 horsepower! The magazine says it obtained the information from a source working within the company. "We have done an R-S version with over 700bhp that will do over 200mph (322 km/h)– it's going to be insane," the unnamed source said. The report also added that the car would look "fantastic" painted French Racing Blue, the hue reserved for Jaguar's extreme sports cars like the XKR-S. Read more »   |
| Monkey Displeased With Speeding Ticket, Bites Officer's Hand Posted: 21 Jun 2013 12:46 PM PDT  A small monkey sitting behind a driver who had just been pulled over on the road and cited for speeding, showed his discontent with the officer's decision to write him a ticket by jumping up and biting his finger, just as he was about to hand the driver a pen to sign the slip. The incident took place during what originally appeared to be a routine stop in Aransas Pass, Texas on Wednesday. The officer in question was 21-year-old Keith Moore. The rookie cop, who was wearing a sunglass-mounted camera, was kind of confused after the bite and headed back to his sergeant. Read more »   |

Now known as the Ur-Quattro, with Ur roughly translating as "first of its kind" or "the origin" from German, the all-wheel drive sports car that led to the insanity that was the Group B Audi Sport Quattro S1 was produced from 1980 through 1991 (though, U.S. deliveries stopped in 1986). | McLaren 12C Rumored to Receive Power Boost Courtesy of P1 Engine Upgrades Posted: 21 Jun 2013 10:02 AM PDT  A recent article on Jalopnik is reporting that the McLaren 12C is getting another power increase, to make it even faster than its Italian rival, the Ferrari 458 Italia. | Renault Details 2014 F1 1.6-Liter V6 Turbo Unit: 760 HP, 35 Percent More Fuel-Efficient Posted: 21 Jun 2013 08:33 AM PDT  Starting with the 2014 season, Formula 1 regulations shift drastically, and the most significant change is the switch from 2.4-liter normally aspirated V8 engines to 1.6-liter direct-injected turbocharged V6 units. Renault is the first F1 engine manufacturer to present the new power unit, officially named Energy F1-2014 to reflect synergies with the fuel-efficient Energy engine used in its road cars. The 1.6-liter V6 engine is fitted with energy recovery systems that increase efficiency by harvesting energy dissipated as heat in the exhaust or brakes. Read more »   |

Its presence in Benz's range means that the C-Class' successor will try to distance itself from the CLA through a longer and roomier body, a more mature design that draws inspiration from the larger S-Class, higher quality materials and a more refined ride, along, of course, with the rear-wheel drive setup (though, all-wheel drive will be optional). | Nissan Unveils ZEOD RC Le Mans Prototype, Confirms It’s All-Electric, Skimps on Other Details Posted: 21 Jun 2013 05:37 AM PDT  We knew, thanks to a couple of teasers released by Nissan, that their electrified Le Mans prototype was set to be shown today. However, up until this point, it had not been confirmed what sort of powerplant would motivate this new racing car. Now that photos and information have been released, we realize that more questions are raised than answered, and aside from the confirmation that the ZEOD RC is all-electric, not much information was shared. There's a lot of testing to be done as the car, which will reportedly be able to exceed 300 km/h or 186 mph, will make its debut at next year's edition of the famed French racing venue.
