Future Cars: Chevrolet Cruzes Into Gear for 2015 with New Corolla and Focus Rival

Posted: 11 Jun 2013 05:22 PM PDT

In the past, General Motors offerings in the small car segment had often people scratching their heads; dismal quality, performance and awkward styling were only just some of the negative headlines.

However fast forward to 2013 and one will find the Chevrolet Cruze has been a godsend for GM after the rather average Cobalt that it replaced. Squaring the Honda Civic, Toyota Corolla and Ford Focus straight in the headlights, it's been a sales success. In fact, it's hard to believe that after only going on sale in the States in 2010, that its successor is well under development. Then again, it was presented in 2008 in other markets, so it is time for a new model

Apple Announces Car-Compatible Version of iOS 7

Posted: 11 Jun 2013 04:34 PM PDT

Having the ability to plug your phone into your swanky new car, whether it is to play music off it, or simply charge it (something you do a lot with modern smartphones and their ridiculously short battery life) has become a requirement, and it is one feature that buyers are now inquiring about before making the final purchase.

However, things don't end here anymore, because Apple has something in store for us "by 2014". According to a recent video, which was taken at the 2013 Apple Worldwide Developer's Conference, Honda, Mercedes-Benz, Ferrari, Chevrolet, Infiniti, Kia, Volvo and more will begin to offer full iOS 7 compatibility in their cars as of next year.

Jaguar Gives XF Minimal Revisions and Efficient Diesel for 2014 Model Year

Posted: 11 Jun 2013 03:59 PM PDT

The Jaguar XF has slowly evolved, from the buggy first generation car, and now yet another set of improvements and changes have been made to it, for the 2014 model-year. We note minor changes in its trim grades, two new paint finish options on the aesthetic side, and a detuned version of the 2.2-liter diesel engine is the main point of interest (for company car drivers, especially).

That's not because of its 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) time of 9.8 seconds, which brings it dangerously close to being slow, because its main attribute is efficiency, and the official numbers are promising.

Spied: Volkswagen Preparing Touareg II for its First Makeover

Posted: 11 Jun 2013 02:55 PM PDT

In less than 12 months from now, the second generation of the Volkswagen Touareg SUV will hit the four-year mark, and we all know what that means for modern-day German cars: yes, it's facelift time, which is why the Wolfsburg-based company is taking out disguised prototypes for testing.

The strategically placed black camouflage of this Touareg hints at a redesign for the front and rear ends, but we won't be able to say for sure until VW begins to peel back the layers of plastic wraps. A light touch up of the interior and its equipment features and gadgets could also be in store.

Posted: 11 Jun 2013 02:31 PM PDT

We have studies on just about everything nowadays, so it comes to no surprise that someone paid for one to find out who are the worst passengers, according to drivers.

The results of the survey of 500 drivers commissioned by the Insurance site are not that surprising. Husbands and wives are the worst backseat drivers, with 40 percent of men saying their wives are the most annoying passengers and 34 percent of women drivers saying the same thing about their husbands.

Posted: 11 Jun 2013 01:59 PM PDT

Now approaching the end of the road, the current incarnation of the M3 has served well and has definitely earned its status as a desirable car, which is why it will make an excellent second-hand buy, especially after deliveries of its successor start – this will push prices down.

Posted: 11 Jun 2013 12:41 PM PDT

It's always nice to hear Bob Lutz speaking out about the auto industry, as the former top level GM exec always has a keen insight into certain matters.

While previously, he was widely known as an advocate for gasoline-powered vehicles, in recent years, he has dramatically changed his views on the matter, ever since he brought about the creation of the reasonably-popular Chevy Volt – now he is a board member for VIA, which electrifies pick-ups.

This goes along nicely with the multitude of videos from Russia that we post; you know, those crashes when it appears as if the driver isn't paying attention, and either wonders straight through a red light and into the path of oncoming traffic, or simply does something very dumb, like run over a bus stop in an intersection.

Distracted driving is to blame, says a study commissioned by organizations that are looking out for road safety in the US.

Posted: 11 Jun 2013 09:09 AM PDT

The Sesto Elemento represents what Lamborghini does best – cars which look outrageous and also sound phenomenal too. Sure, over the years, they've refined their style considerably and some of their models aren't as daring as they could have been, especially since going under the tutelage of Audi, but when it comes to concepts, they always get people talking.

In fact, the flat black Sesto Elemento got so many people talking that it is now no longer a concept, but also an ultra-exclusive toy for 20 very lucky owners.

However, according to Technology Preview, other types of industries are already seeing the benefits of the technology and are looking for ways to apply it in the usual cost-effective way, because there is no other way when it comes to business.

Alfa Romeo 4C Reveals Manufacturing Secrets, Weighs Just 895 Kg (1,973 Lbs)

Posted: 11 Jun 2013 07:35 AM PDT

The all-new and highly anticipated Alfa Romeo 4C signals the Italian brand's rejuvenation and its return to the United States this autumn after a hiatus that lasted close to two decades. Alfa's new small sports car will be built at Maserati's plant in Modena, just like the 8C Competizione supercar before it.

Designed from the beginning to have a supercar-rivaling weight/power ratio of less than 4 kg/hp, the Alfa Romeo 4C has a total dry weight of just 895 kg (1,973 lbs), which makes it lighter than a city car and one of the lightest production cars in the world. To achieve these figure, engineers used aluminum, steel, lightened SMC (Sheet Moulding Compound) and carbon fiber.

Alfa Romeo says the secret of the 4C's lightness and dynamic behavior lays in the use of 10 percent carbon fibre, which represents 25 percent of the 4C overall volume.

Carbon fiber was chosen for the structural function monocoque that makes up the central, load-bearing cell of the chassis, as the material offers the best weight/stiffness efficiency. The monocoque weighs just 65 kg (143 lbs).

Renault Says Strange Looks Affected Laguna Sales, New Model Promises ‘More Emotion’

Posted: 11 Jun 2013 05:13 AM PDT

The CEO of Renault, Carlos Tavares, is convinced that the uninspiring lines of the Laguna may have dented its sales appeal, and "it's possible that because the rear of the hatchback is a little bit strange, this has damaged the potential of the other cars" (the estate and coupe models), he was quoted as saying by Autocar magazine.

"We need to continue to work on appeal," he said, adding that "if you look at the new cars — Zoe, Captur and Clio — you understand what I mean. It is about having character without being strange."
