Posted: 09 Jul 2013 05:28 PM PDT

In order to shake off the perception of a manufacturer of cars for old people, from the XF and forth, Jaguar has focused into the future with every new model it produces, but that does not mean it has completely set its past aside; it just does it in a very different way than before.

The new Project 7 that was unveiled today ahead of a world premiere at the Goodwood Festival of Speed this weekend, is a perfect example of how Jaguar blends the past with the future nowadays.

Pope Francis Urges Priests to Drive More Humble Cars, Which Ones Would You Propose?

Posted: 09 Jul 2013 04:54 PM PDT

Pope Francis – formerly Argentine Cardinal Jorge Mario Bergoglio, has been in the spotlight since he was elected as supreme head of the Catholic Church. Most of the time, he received media coverage for preaching humility and criticizing some of the members of the church for their inclination towards worldly matters.

Pope Francis' latest advice comes from the same page, with the Roman Pontiff now offering his view on cars. He said it pained him to see priests driving flashy cars, and told them to choose something more "humble".

BMW Provides First Photos and Specs on Production i3 Electric Hatch

Posted: 09 Jul 2013 04:26 PM PDT

True, there's not much you can tell from these "ghost" images of the i3 that were released by BMW (though, we have a very good idea of what the production car will look like through the spy shots and patent office renders), but there's nothing cryptic about the specifications that were also announced today.

BMW's first venture into mass produced electric cars is a model built from the ground up under its eDrive program and it will be fully revealed on July 29 in New York.

2014 Peugeot RCZ R: First Official Photos of 260HP Performance Variant

Posted: 09 Jul 2013 03:32 PM PDT

There's no need to wait for Friday and the opening day of the 2013 Goodwood Festival of Speed to catch a glimpse of the production version of Peugeot's most powerful road-going model ever, the all-new RCZ R sports coupe, as official images of the car just surfaced online.

Aesthetically, the changes over last year's Paris Motor Show RCZ R Concept have to do with the choice of colors (we could see Peugeot offering the study's matte black and bronze color scheme as an option), the addition of an "R" badge on the front grille and boot lid, plus a black surround for the tail lamp clusters and a third brake light under the rear spoiler.

Londoner Throws an Egg on Woman Driving a Ferrari 458 Spider

Posted: 09 Jul 2013 05:32 PM PDT

It's only natural that if you are a young, good looking person of either sex, you are going to attract the envious gazes of less financially fortunate bystanders, when you're cruising around in a convertible mid-engined Ferrari, painted bright yellow (Giallo Modena), with matching brake calipers, of course.

However, most will simply limit the state of anger at their own inability to make that kind of money, and deal with the insecurity in an introverted fashion, not letting it show in public.

Scoop: Kia Electrifies Second Generation Soul

Posted: 09 Jul 2013 01:52 PM PDT

Here's our very first look at Kia's attempt to create an all-electric car for the global market based on the second iteration of the boxy-shaped Soul. Spotted in Europe, the EV model comes with some minor changes over the regular Soul, including the reshaped front grille, different headlamp clusters and hood, along, of course, with the absence of a tailpipe.

Bear in mind that this is a test car, so Kia may very well have more updates in store for the production version when it arrives.

Porsche’s Design Boss Talks About the Cayman's Origins

Posted: 09 Jul 2013 01:26 PM PDT

The Porsche Cayman is one of the most praised mid-engined sports cars on sale today. It is a very well balanced car due to its layout, offering precise handling and performance to match the Porsche name. All these attributes translate into good sales, but would the Cayman have had the same success were it not for its design?

While we'll never find the answer to this question, it's interesting to see how designers arrived at the current shape of the Cayman.

New V12 Hybrid Supercar from Belgium Called Minerva J.M. Brabazon

Posted: 09 Jul 2013 12:29 PM PDT

Yet another old name from the early 20th century has been revived, this time from Belgium. Called the J.M. Brabazon, it is the first vehicle to bear the Minerva badge since 1956. The brand made luxury cars until 1938, then, after the war, they struggled for survival by making Land Rovers, before finally going bust.

Moving on to the J.M. Brabazon, it is named after a British duke/racing car driver who raced Minerva cars back in the day. The official website says the car will feature a V12 engine, which will get extra boost from electric motors powering the front wheels for a top speed of over 400 km/h (250 mph) – theoretically, it is aimed at the Ferrari La Ferrari and McLaren P1.

Toronto Flash Floods: The Wise Guy in the Saturn, the Trapped Ferrari California and More

Posted: 09 Jul 2013 11:29 AM PDT

If you haven't heard, Toronto, Canada's largest city and home to around 2.7 million people, was flooded last night after a severe thunderstorm poured more than a month's worth of rain in a few hours. While the average rainfall for July in Toronto is 71 mm (2.8 inches), more than 90mm (3.54 inches) fell into the city on Monday - according to CTV News, there was a record-breaking 126 mm of rain at Pearson Airport.

Naturally, all that rain falling in such a short period resulted in flash floods all over the city, catching many drivers by surprise, some of whom were stranded in the waters.

Still that doesn't make them all bad, and this latest one, carried out by Pied Piper Management Co., operating out of Monterey, California, draws some very interesting conclusions, regarding the skill with which dealership salespeople are able to close the deal. Stylish 1980 Lancia Gamma Coupe Up for Grabs in Florida

Posted: 09 Jul 2013 09:59 AM PDT

We complain all the time that modern cars all look alike, drive alike, share platforms and generally lack any sort of individuality, unless you opt for something bespoke and very expensive.

However, older cars are an approved third way of getting around this problem and placing yourself behind the wheel of a car with character, one which will please you every time you walk towards or away from. In the latter case, making you take that all important last glance you'd never consider doing at your car if it were a blandosaurus like the Toyota Camry.

Toyota Takes Us for a History Ride in New Corolla Music Clip

Posted: 09 Jul 2013 09:15 AM PDT

Regardless if we like or find any generation interesting, if we had to pick one nameplate that has defined Toyota more than any other car in its range today, it would most certainly be the Corolla. Ask us the same question in 20 years, and yes, it could be the Prius, but as successful and innovative as Toyota's hybrid may be, it has a long way to go to reach the success and status of the Corolla. 2014 Stingray Corvette Returns 21 MPG Combined – Would You Care?

Posted: 09 Jul 2013 08:39 AM PDT

Economy is definitely not the primary concern for potential Corvette Stingray buyers, and in fact, it's not even close to the middle of the list, despite being an important factor, especially if you plan on putting the newfound (more) comfortable ride on the C7 to the test.

For these longer journeys, done at constant speed on the highway, GM claims the new Corvette hits 29 mpg (8.1 l/100km), with the aid of cylinder deactivation, which is standard on all models.

Much in the same way as humans and animals, automobiles are also tied to the vicious cycle of life and death.

At the same time that the first examples of the facelifted BMW 5-Series F10 sedan, F11 Touring and F07 Gran Turismo models are arriving in dealerships across the world, the engineering minds in Munich have started field tests of the car that will gradually replace them starting from late 2016 or early 2017.

Nissan Installs Over 100 Fast Chargers at Leaf-Certified US Dealerships

Posted: 09 Jul 2013 06:57 AM PDT

I tried not to begin this piece by saying that the biggest downfall of current EVs are their batteries, but by the time I realized what I was doing, the phrase had already typed itself…

Nevertheless, it is true, and Nissan, like all other makers of battery-powered electric vehicles, is aware of it. In the US, they are trying to at least partially counter the issue by installing more than 100 quick charging stations at Leaf-certified dealerships.

Volvo Announces Sale of One Millionth Automatic Braking Car [w/Videos]

Posted: 09 Jul 2013 06:00 AM PDT

Volvo has just announced that there are now one million of their cars fitted with AEB (autonomous emergency braking) on the road and for most of them (aside from XC90 buyers), the system actually came as standard, otherwise the psychological milestone number would have been reached much later.

Nevertheless, facts and figures are absolute in their meaning, and this is genuinely an achievement, which goes some way to support the Swedes' commitment to not have a single person die in any of their cars after 2020.

New Extreme 311HP Caterham R620 Reaches 60mph In Under Three Seconds

Posted: 09 Jul 2013 05:19 AM PDT

I always thought the whole idea of the Caterham Seven was to give owners a lightweight trackday car which you could also drive home, and fix its problems because you had most likely built some part of it (or all of it) in the garage and the knowledge was already there.

Another part of the Seven's appeal was the simplicity of its chosen engines, especially in the more basic models, without forced induction. The 'classic' Ford DuraTec two-liter unit is still going strong, and in fact, a reworked version of it, fitted with a supercharger makes 311hp and has now been used under the bonnet of the latest and most powerful variant of the car, dubbed the R620.
