Scoop: Lexus Prepares New IS F Coupe to Take on BMW M4 [20 Photos]

Posted: 15 Jul 2013 05:14 PM PDT

There's no question that the prototype pictured in these fresh spy shots is the all-new Lexus IS-based Coupe, but how can one be sure that it's the on-and-off (up until now, that is), F-badged high-performance version and not the simpler F-Sport variant?

Glad you asked, because the answer is right in front of our eyes. Despite the liberal use of camouflage wrap on the body, if not all, most telltale signs that this is indeed the IS-F Coupe are here starting with the stacked twin tailpipes on either side of the diffuser along with what looks to be a retractable spoiler.

Do want more evidence? No problem. Let's go around to the front where we find a slotted bonnet along with a caged "spindle" grille and huge corner air intakes. Finally, we take a look at the car's profile and the blistered front and rear wheel arches, the vented front fenders, sculptured side skirts and low profile tires through which we can see the massive brake calipers and discs.

How would you feel if you had the chance to drive a 1901 Sweepstakes racing car? For me it would probably be like shaking hands with Henry Ford himself, as this car has the man's blood, sweat and tears all over it.

The post-apocalyptic theme has been used, reused and infused with zombies, aliens, outlaws or all sorts of mutated monsters over the years, with varying degrees of success. However, the games and movies that have subsequently adopted it still hold a candle to one of the classics of the genre: the Mad Max movie series. Read more »

More Russian Motorcycle Stupidity, This Time with a Sidecar

Posted: 15 Jul 2013 03:01 PM PDT

Like it or not, when it comes to motorcycle riders versus drivers of passenger or commercial vehicles, size does matter. Just like when you're a pedestrian, even if you do have the right of way or the law on your side, it's always best to play it safe and retreat if you sense danger, because chances are, you're the one that's going to be hurt in case of an accident. Simple as that.

After an earlier dash-cam video of a Russian rider of a sports motorcycle who foolishly tempted his fate by taunting a passenger car driver and paid the price for it, we have another biker, this time riding an old motorcycle with a sidecar, involved in a road-rage incident with a compact hatchback.

NASA Outlines Plan to Send New Rover to Mars in 2020

Posted: 15 Jul 2013 02:34 PM PDT

If you were to ask somebody witnessing the US Moon landings in 1969, just as Apollo 11's Eagle lander was touching down in the Sea of Tranquility, how long it would take man to get to the surface of the next big challenge in our quest for space exploration, Mars, they would undoubtedly not have said "sometime in the 2030s." Still, this is the consensus now, as president Obama announced it as a goal – hopefully, this is a promise he will keep. Read more »

With a sub 8-second zero to sixty time, achieved with the help of 130hp and 542 Nm (400 lb-ft) of torque, the all-electric ChevySpark EV offers an interesting proposal in the often dull world of green cars. Even in its most basic form, the new 2014 Corvette Stingray is a powerful beast sporting a 455-horsepower V8 that can catapult it to 60mph (96km/h) in under 4 seconds. Naturally, GM has many more models in store for us with the most anticipated being the flagship ZR1 - that is, if you don't want to go the tuner way…

Today, one of America's most well-known aftermarket firms, Hennessey Performance, released its tuning program for the C7 Corvette, and as you would expect, it's pretty impressive when it comes to output figures.

Posted: 15 Jul 2013 08:58 AM PDT

When one German automaker comes out with a fresh proposal entering a new niche, you can be sure that it won't be long before their local rivals follow suit.

We've seen this happen many times in the past and we're going to see it again with Audi that is said to be planning an A3 tall hatchback / minivan of sorts targeting BMW's upcoming production version of the Active Tourer Concept, which we hear will be called the 1-Series GT (Gran Turismo).

Biker Provokes Car on a Highway by Hitting the Brakes, Receives the Shaft…

Posted: 15 Jul 2013 08:14 AM PDT

Of all the things one could do while riding a motorcycle on the highway, sprinting in front of a car and pressing on the brakes constantly to supposedly scare the driver must be one of the dumbest in the book – no need to explain why.

Yet, the Russian motorcyclist in this dash-cam footage attempted to taunt a driver doing precisely that, and the outcome, naturally, wasn't pretty at all…

If Peugeot wants to get out of the tight spot it's in, then the new 308 hatch will have to be a success story for the French brand. Period.

The compact model that will represent Peugeot in one of Europe's biggest market sectors, the C-segment, challenging the likes of the VW Golf Mk7, Ford Focus, Seat Leon and Renault Megane, was presented online in May, but its public debut won't take place until mid-September at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show.

Datsun Relaunched as Dacia of the East with New GO Supermini [w/Videos]

Posted: 15 Jul 2013 05:34 AM PDT

Datsun is back some three decades after Nissan came to the decision that it would be to its best interest to kill the name in the early 1980s. Now, Datsun is starting afresh as the third Nissan Motor Company's brand after Nissan and Infiniti as a maker of low-cost vehicles – think of it as the Japanese equivalent of the Renault-Nissan Alliance's Dacia brand.

The first new Datsun is the Go supermini that was unveiled today in the flesh in New Delhi, India. Developed and manufactured locally, the new Datsun hatch will first go on sale in India early next year priced below INR 400,000 (US$6,700 / €5,100) with more markets to follow later in the year, including Indonesia, Russia and South Africa.

Nissan pointed out that Datsun models will be "individually developed for different markets, but the concept will follow a common inspiration".

"This is an historic day for Nissan Motor Company and for our customers and partners in some of the world's fastest-growing markets. It's also an exciting moment for many women and men here in India who – today – come one step closer to realizing the dream of purchasing a car," said Carlos Ghosn, Nissan Motor President and CEO.

Fangio’s $30 Million F1 Mercedes W196 The Most Expensive Car Ever Sold at Auction [w/Videos]

Posted: 15 Jul 2013 04:48 AM PDT

Each remarkable automobile has its own niche in the annals of history, whether it's through beautiful, timeless design, some sort of significant technical innovation, or having been owned/driven by somebody famous (the latter implies that the car doesn't even have to be anything special in itself). These three aspects have a dramatic impact in its value as a collectors' item once it is deemed obsolete. Read more »
