Future Cars: A Lincoln Luxury Coupe of MKZ Proportions

Posted: 16 Jul 2013 05:30 PM PDT

Lincoln must be one of the most harshly critiqued brands in recent times; from the stigma of being too closely aligned to Ford's mainstream products to its polarizing design language. Either way, critics have been rather vocal about what direction the company should head - if any at all.

Criticisms should be squarely leveled at those PAG-era (Premier Auto Group) directors who thought acquiring European prestige brands would yield great benefits - of which never transpired. This meant Lincoln was left to flounder while resources were directed towards Volvo, Jaguar, Range Rover and Aston Martin. Today PAG is gone - dissected and sold off, which means Lincoln now has the Blue-Oval's full attention, resources and determination to see the brand prosper.

When we first watched this dash-cam footage of a speeding Ferrari 458 Italia rear-ending a Mercedes-Benz S-Class, we thought it was just another one of those accidents involving a fast car, but upon closer inspection, it turns out that this story is much more gruesome as the supercar hit a pedestrian before the impact with the sedan.

Nissan Ditches Altima Coupe Due to Lack of Buyer Interest

Posted: 16 Jul 2013 03:49 PM PDT

A Wards Auto report said that Nissan will be removing the Altima Coupe from its lineup, a move prophesized by the automaker's decision not to improve the car in any way in the 2012 model-year to 2013. Officials are apparently staying tight-lipped about the real reason for the decision, but it is suggested that poor sales and a lack of buyer interest may have been the deciding factors to not go ahead and present a new model. Posted: 16 Jul 2013 03:00 PM PDT

Chevrolet tells us that, besides the usual development tests, after the introduction of a new car but before any of its models go on sale in Europe, the brand's technical experts drive early samples as part of the so-called, "GM standard quality control program".

The same procedure applies for the new Corvette Stingray with Chevrolet having just shipped two examples of the sports car to the Old Continent where Patrick Herrmann, technical manager at Chevrolet Europe and his team will drive them in Germany, Switzerland, France and the Netherlands over the course of the next couple of months.

Posted: 16 Jul 2013 02:00 PM PDT

The new 2014 Ram 1500 is definitely a contender in the hugely-competitive pickup truck market, and while it trails some of its rivals in a few areas, the downsides are not really that significant, and according to Consumer Reports, it's a very worthy buy, especially after it has been incrementally improved over the years, with most of its faults being ironed out. Fast & Furious Asks, Where Should They Film No7?

Posted: 16 Jul 2013 01:33 PM PDT

Yes, there's no end to the Fast and Furious franchise and how could there be when the sixth installment, known by fans simply as FF6, overtook Fast Five to become the highest-grossing film in the series turning in a worldwide gross of $704.2 million (€534.8 million)?

So, another sequel is in the making and is scheduled to begin filming next month with the plot continuing from where FF6 left (see our reviews here and here) as after Dominic Torreto (played by Vin Diesel) and his crew helped take down Owen Shaw (Luke Evens), his brother Ian Shaw (Jason Statham) seeks revenge. At the end of Justin Lin's FF6, we even catch a glimpse of Statham.

Posted: 16 Jul 2013 01:04 PM PDT

UK-based gaming studio Codemasters has a long history of making very popular racing games, and while the chosen theme varies greatly, all of their products are polished, fun to play and easy to pick up.

F1 2013, an anticipated upcoming title, is now getting a host of nice 1980s and 1990s historic racing cars, period driver names and historically-accurate tracks, which have been modified from their current (modern) state to mimic what they were like when Nigel Mansell's moustache wasn't a conversation topic, as people were more interested in his driving.

MT's Carlos Lago Finds Bentley Continental GT Speed Surprisingly Agile

Posted: 16 Jul 2013 12:03 PM PDT

Nobody in their right mind would ever think of associating the big slab-like look of the Bentley Continental GT Speed and the huge inherent weight with sporty handling and a fingertip-precise driving experience.

However, it seems that somehow, the VW-owned luxury automaker has managed to defy physics, as Motor Trend magazine's Carlos Lago reports that the car is surprisingly agile, and much better to drive around the twisties than anticipated.

Surprised? Nissan Says There May Not Be Enough Leafs for All U.S. Dealers

Posted: 16 Jul 2013 10:40 AM PDT

Funny how some situations take a dramatic turn from one year to the next… You may remember that last year, Nissan was suffering huge sales setbacks for its Leaf in the U.S., due in no small part to the problems the car had in very hot climates, which in time caused the lithium-ion battery pack to lose capacity far quicker than the manufacturer intended. Scoop: Alpine Reportedly Begins Field Tests of New Coupe in…Lotus Guise?

Posted: 16 Jul 2013 08:38 AM PDT

It's not at all unusual for carmakers to cleverly disguise their future models, especially during the early development phase when they use mules to test the platform and mechanical components. These test mules combine a body of a different model with the underpinnings of an upcoming new car, and if not always, most of the times, said body comes from the same brand or at least group (i.e. this Alfa Giulietta-bodied Jeep mule). 1990 Jaguar XJ220 Development Prototype Up for Sale

Posted: 16 Jul 2013 06:35 AM PDT

The Jaguar XJ220 may remain the brand's latest supercar for a while, now that the C-X75 project has been axed. Only 281 production units were made between 1990 and 1992, which makes the XJ220 a very rare car.

Naturally, Jaguar also built five development prototypes, which were used to solve the car's packaging and tyre safety problems. The first two of these prototypes were smaller and featured radically different A-pillars. The cars were driven at their limits by racing drivers including Andy Wallace, John Neilsen and David Leslie.

Swiss Biker Goes From Bruiser Cool to Bruised Tool in Just 2 Seconds

Posted: 16 Jul 2013 06:08 AM PDT

Do you know why motorcyclists should always wear a helmet and if not protective gear, at least have most of the clothes on while riding their bike? Yes, the answer is to keep their body as safe and shielded as possible in case of an accident – and trust us, crashes happen all the time, even to the coolest of people.

At the Harley-Davidson ride event in the Swiss city of Lugano this past weekend, a pumped- and bronzed-up man who was showing off by speeding through the crowd without wearing anything on top and holding a helmet in his hand, slipped and fell onto the ground.

Bill Warner, Motorcycle Land Speed Record Holder Dies in Maine Crash

Posted: 16 Jul 2013 07:03 AM PDT

Attempting to break any sort of land speed record has some form of risk associated and the more powerful the vehicle used, the higher speed it can achieve, and the more perilous its operation becomes. If that vehicle is a heavily-modified Suzuki Hayabusa, used by motorcycle racer Bill Warner to achieve a top speed of 311 mph or 497 km/h, then that element of danger is very real.

Sadly, after having survived a severe crash last year, from which he had recovered surprisingly quickly, the 44-year old wasn't so lucky at an event organized at the Loring Air Force Base, in northern Maine, where his bike reportedly veered hard to the right at full throttle, which resulted in a fatal crash.
