Posted: 11 Sep 2013 05:32 PM PDT

In a rather surprising move, Ferrari has announced that Kimi Raikkonen will replace Felipe Massa starting next season at the Prancing Horse. The Finn will therefore have Fernando Alonso as teammate, with the Spaniard likely to lose his No. 1 status in Maranello after four years of being the undisputed leader of the team. Read more »

China's Changan Lays Its Goods on the Frankfurt Motor Show Floors

Posted: 11 Sep 2013 03:40 PM PDT

China's invasion of the European car market – or any other market of importance, for that matter, as some had predicted, never materialized, and from the looks of how things are going, it will take a lot of time and serious efforts from the country's local manufacturers to do so in a convincing way. Posted: 11 Sep 2013 02:50 PM PDT

Ford Tries Luxury Again with Mondeo Vignale Concepts Previewing New Sub-Brand [72 Pics]

Posted: 11 Sep 2013 02:31 PM PDT

Much like Ghia, Vignale was once an Italian automobile coachbuilder company before it fell into the hands of Ford and got lost in its vast portfolio of names and products. After burning / turning Ghia into a trim grade for better-equipped models, Ford had to find another name to place on its newly envisioned luxury sub-brand, so it resurrected the Vignale moniker.

While the new Mondeo-based Vignale sedan and estate concept cars displayed at the Frankfurt Motor Show come with distinguishable styling features, enhanced specifications and more premium materials inside, Ford says the Vignale sub-brand will take the idea one step further by offerings special services as well.

BMW Concept X5 eDrive is Looking for a Free Plug in Frankfurt

Posted: 11 Sep 2013 02:09 PM PDT

The BMW i8 may have stolen the show at the Bavarian carmaker's Frankfurt stand, but there was another plug-in hybrid on display as well. Based on the all-new X5 SAV, the Concept X5 eDrive combines BMW's eDrive technology with the xDrive AWD system for the first time.

The study's eDrive system consists of a twin-turbocharged four-cylinder combustion engine (BMW doesn't say whether it's a petrol or a diesel unit) and an electric motor developed by BMW Group producing 70 kW (95PS/94hp).

Lexus Sharpens up Frankfurt Motor Show with LF-NX Crossover Concept [w/Videos]

Posted: 11 Sep 2013 01:33 PM PDT

Lexus' vision of a mid-sized crossover is the carved LF-NX concept, which had its world premiere at the Frankfurt Motor Show.

With a length of 4,640mm (182.7in) and a wheelbase of 2,700mm (106.3in), the LF-NX is smaller than the RX crossover, which means a production version would likely compete against the BMW X3 and Audi Q5.

Oh, No, Not Another One…Rolls Royce Envies Bentley and Wants to Add an SUV to its Range

Posted: 11 Sep 2013 01:10 PM PDT

Like it or not, for the foreseeable future and until the fad goes away and a fresh generation of buyers begins to look for something else when it comes to rides to differentiate itself from its elders, SUVs or Sports Utility Vehicles are here to stay.

When Bentley announced their intentions to sell an SUV with the controversial EXP 9 concept last year, you could say that the company's decision raised a few eyebrows. One of those people who were surprised in an envious kind of way must have been Rolls-Royce CEO Torsten Mueller-Oetvoes who now wants the traditional high-end British carmaker to follow in Bentley's footsteps.

Smart FourJoy Concept Shows Bits of the Upcoming ForFour

Posted: 11 Sep 2013 12:50 PM PDT

Taking center stage at Smart's Frankfurt Motor Show stand, the FourJoy Concept is, according to the carmaker, a forerunner of a new Smart generation. A distant forerunner we could say, given that the study has no doors, no rear windor and an open roof. But ignore these and the showcar bits like the futuristic interior with a lounge-style bench and you could say you've just had a preview of the second-generation Smart ForFour. Read more »

Citroen to Join Foray of Compact Crossovers with C4 Cactus

Posted: 11 Sep 2013 12:26 PM PDT

The Frankfurt Motor Show Cactus Concept is Citroen's fancy and attention-grabbing way of telling us that it will soon have a representative in the increasingly crowded compact crossover segment. The French brand's own words are that it depicts "a vision for the future models in the C-line", but pictures, and in particular scoop pictures, speak louder than words… Read more »

RCZ R Stands Out at Peugeot’s Frankfurt Motor Show Booth

Posted: 11 Sep 2013 11:42 AM PDT

Before the reveal of the first RCZ from Peugeot, we thought the brand had grown stale and lacked drive to shake up its image, and avoid not being able to support itself financially…  Sporty cars are a great way to boost an automotive brand's appeal, as are green cars, and the lion-shaped half of PSA is now doing both, and one can see they are really trying. Toyota Yaris Hybrid-R Concept Has Racing Genes

Posted: 11 Sep 2013 11:01 AM PDT

Until recently, when hybrid powertrains began to be used in motorsport, the idea that a hybrid car could be sporty and fun to drive was almost unthinkable. As one of the pioneers of hybrid vehicles, Toyota is working to make hybrids acceptable for as many people as possible, including driving enthusiasts.

This is where the Toyota Yaris Hybrid-R comes into play. It's a study (for now at least) that combines the best of both worlds: the (unspecified) fuel economy and low emissions of a hybrid vehicle with the acceleration and thrills offered by a hot-hatch. Sporting a racing-inspired hybrid powertrain, the Frankfurt concept shows what could be achieved if hybrid technologies from the world of motorsport were applied to a road car.

Peugeot 308 and 308 R Revealed For All to See in Frankfurt

Posted: 11 Sep 2013 10:18 AM PDT

Peugeot is finally giving up the oversized headlights and mouths design theme, and is going all-Volkswagen all of a sudden, with the launch of the simply-styled new 308. I don't dislike it, but I do feel that it could have been a bit more interesting.

That way, they would not have needed a 270 PS / 266 hp hot hatch version with an unusual two-tone paint scheme and massive rims to get our attention – look at Mazda and their newly-released 3. It's getting a lot of good publicity now because it's a more interesting car than this, and, well, it frankly is just more attractive…

Kia Envisions a New Small SUV with Niro Concept

Posted: 11 Sep 2013 09:13 AM PDT

What would you say about a small B-segment SUV like the Niro Concept? It looks kind of cool with its big 20-inch off-road tires and tough styling attitude, doesn't it? Then again, we all know what happens to conceptual studies once pragmatism and market studies sink in…

Nevertheless, Kia states that its Frankfurt Motor Show star was created to gauge potential customer response for a production model that would go against the Nissan Juke, adding that while it "may be a designers' eye view of a future B-segment contender, that doesn't mean it is a pure flight of fancy".

Hamann Nervudo is a Lamborghini Aventador on a Vitamin C Overdose

Posted: 11 Sep 2013 08:41 AM PDT

One thing that is fairly common among German tuners is their love for exotic colors, which would have been fine if they didn't apply the same shade on just about everywhere, from the rims to the interior… Case in point, the Hamann Nervudo, an individualized Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4 that made its world debut at the Frankfurt Auto Show this week. Jaguar C-X17 Concept Shows How a Future Crossover May Look Like [96 Photos]

Posted: 11 Sep 2013 08:55 AM PDT

Luxury car manufacturers need SUVs in their lineup if they want to make money, and Jaguar seems to have an understanding of that. Although the British company doesn't say it specifically, with the C-X17 Concept shown in Frankfurt, it is testing the waters for a production SUV that may launch within the next few years.

Jaguar says the C-X17 announces "next-generation lightweight technologies in the form of an all-new advanced aluminium monocoque architecture," incorporated by the study. The Tata Motors-owned carmaker says the iQ[Al] architecture will form the basis for a new range of future Jaguars, the first of which will be a mid-size premium C/D segment sedan in 2015.

Honda NSX Chief Engineer Answers Important Questions In Frankfurt

Posted: 11 Sep 2013 07:42 AM PDT

When I say, important I don't mean anything related to technical specifications, but the attitude with which problems and questions at hand are approached. Honda's Chief Engineer for the NSX project, Ted Klaus, jokingly says that his wife calls him half-Japanese, and well, for the car to still be a recognizable Honda/Acura effort, despite being made and even partially developed in the US, he'd better be… Read more »
