Posted: 03 Sep 2013 05:08 PM PDT

The main incentive towards buying a diesel-burning car is to reap the efficiency benefits it brings along (not this one, though). Moreover, there's the advantage of excellent low- and mid-range pulling power, and the newfound silent running characteristics of the latest-generation units, two of which are found under the bonnets of the Chevy Cruze 2.0TD and Volkswagen Jetta TDI. Do you remember the Bulleta RF22 sports car project based on the underpinnings of the Lotus Evora, pictures of which we showed you last Friday? Some of you questioned the legitimacy of the concept and if we are to believe Lotus, you were very right to do so.

Office Building Reflects Sunlight and Melts Bits of Jaguar XJ in London

Posted: 03 Sep 2013 02:31 PM PDT

Whenever a company seeks to develop a plot of land, and build a giant structure on top of it, impact testing is very important…or it should be. However, the rules and regulations have their weaknesses, and in London they somehow allowed a developer to create a massive 37-storey office block, that has a concave shape, and expands outward towards the top, in order to maximize the usable space inside without taking into consideration some very important boy scout knowledge.

Since most of its exterior facade is covered in glass, its shape very unfortunately focuses light down right in front of it, and this was noticed recently by a man who found his new-gen Jaguar XJ in a...curious state after parked outside for around two hours.

Posted: 03 Sep 2013 01:33 PM PDT

If Mercedes-Benz can pull it off with the classic G-Wagen for more than three decades now, then why can't Land Rover do the same with its Defender 4x4 marketing it as a premium offering with a price tag to match?

We're sure many of you can answer that question in a lot of different ways (agreeing or disagreeing), and while Land Rover itself has opted to start from a clean sheet of paper for the Defender's replacement, German tuning firm Startech is proposing a luxury upgrade for the current three-door 90 model, which it will present in a world premiere at next week's Frankfurt Motor Show (IAA).

We think so and these fresh photos from the Nürburgring of the same prototype provide further proof that Lexus has a hot performance under its sleeves. Read more »

Ford Mondeo Vignale Study Kickstarts New Upscale Sub-Brand in Europe

Posted: 03 Sep 2013 10:18 AM PDT

While European consumers have to wait until early 2015 (!) for the new Mondeo, Ford will unveil the Mondeo Vignale study at the Frankfurt Motor Show, a car that signals the recycling of the former Italian coachbuilder's name into an upscale sub-brand and which, instead of Ford's website, first appeared on the online edition of Autocar magazine.

Like Ghia, Vignale was a Turin-based coachbuilder that ended up in Ford's collection of brands. Whereas Ghia was belittled by being transformed into a trim level for Ford's European models, Vignale most recently appeared in 2004, when Ford revealed the Focus Vignale study that previewed the Focus Coupe Cabriolet. It also appeared on the 1993 Aston Martin Lagonda Vignale concept, during Ford's ownership of the company.

The current shape Land Rover Discovery (called LR3 from 2004 to 2008, LR4 from 2009 onwards in North America), has been around since 2004. That's nine years in which the now Indian-owned, UK-based off-road and luxury specialist has tried to keep it fresh, kind-of like Volvo has been doing with the XC90.

Now, LR has done it again, facelifting the Discovery for the 2014 model-year, and while it is only skin-deep, it brings the big Disco' in line with the rest of the range, from a visual standpoint.
