Check Out New 360-Degree Camera that Allows for Capturing and Viewing All-Around POV Videos Posted: 04 Dec 2012 06:44 PM PST Things are moving really fast in the 21st century. We're not talking about cars, alone, but technology in other fields, too. More particularly, image-capturing technology: forget the megapixel race on your cameras – the latest and greatest is all-around, 360-degree video capture and control. A Norwegian company called "Making View" has created the ViewCam 360, a compact camera that captures 360-degree, 4K x 2K video at 25-50 fps (frames per second) and weighs only 1.3 pounds (600 grams). Audi's New RS6 Avant Brings the Thunder with 552HP and 190MPH – 305km/h [23 Photos] Posted: 04 Dec 2012 05:17 PM PST It didn't take long for Audi to officially unveil its new super-station wagon model after the first images of the 2014 RS6 Avant started circulating around the internet earlier this afternoon. With the RS6 Avant, it's mostly about the numbers, be that for performance or the sheer size of the car and especially, its humongous load area. We'll start with what will likely pique your interest the most, and that's none other than the beast hiding behind the framed "quattro" logo on the front grille. Out goes the previous RS6's 571hp (579PS) and 650Nm (479 lbf·ft) 5.0-liter bi-turbo V10, in comes a new twin-turbocharged 4.0-litre V8 TFSI engine shared with other Audi's like the S8 as well as the Bentley Continental. In this application, the V8 unit is said to produce 552hp (560PS) between 5,700 and 6,700 rpm and a constant 700 Nm (516 lb-ft) of torque available between 1,750 and 5,500 rpm, though, as one of readers pointed out in our previous posting, Audi may very well be a tad modest about these numbers… Read more » |
Audi A1 Quattro Beats Nissan GT-R on a Wet and Twisty Track, Rains Cats and Dogs Over England… Posted: 04 Dec 2012 04:45 PM PST Pitting an Audi A1 city car against the almighty Nissan GT-R sounds silly, even if said A1 is the limited run Quattro model with a 253HP engine, a 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) time of 5.7 seconds and all-wheel drive, and the venue is a twisty and wet track. The GT-R is much more expensive and has double the power, probably double the electronics, too, and is the car to have under those exact circumstances. Put simply, it's probably the fastest production car bar none in such a scenario. Read more » |
McLaren MC-1 Design Study Reimagines the P1 Concept Posted: 04 Dec 2012 03:59 PM PST As evidenced by the spy pictures of the P1 prototype that we showed you earlier this week and which reveal that the production model will stay if not 100, 99 percent true to the concept, McLaren has long decided upon the looks of its F1 successor that is slated for a world premiere at next year's Geneva Salon. McLaren's team of designers and aerodynamic engineers may be sure about the P1's looks, but an old acquaintance of CarScoop, designer David Cardoso from Belgium, kindly disagrees. Read more » |
Jaguar F-Type Roadster Could be Joined by Coupe, FWD Compact Model and SUV Posted: 04 Dec 2012 03:28 PM PST The F-Type, which made its U.S. debut at the LA Motor Show last week and is scheduled to go on sale in May 2013, is much more than just the high-profile sports car that's been missing from Jaguar's range for a long time. True, the F-Type has been well-received and is expected to boost Jaguar's image considerably. It is equally true, though, that the two-seater roadster will be a low-volume model – even if we add the coupe, which is expected at the 2013 Geneva Auto Show, in the mix. Read more » |
Skoda Teases Bits and Pieces of New Octavia 3 on Facebook While Readers Capture the Car Undressed Posted: 04 Dec 2012 03:05 PM PST It doesn't make much sense for Skoda to play games with the new Octavia 3 anymore since both the sedan/liftback and estate versions of the car have been photographed multiple times on the road camouflage-free, yet the Czech carmaker insists on providing cropped pictures of the D-segment model. The latest set featured on Skoda's Facebook page includes shots of the tail lamps and the rear window and C-column treatment. Read more » |
Chevrolet Volt November Sales Plunge by 50 Percent Due to Low Inventory Posted: 04 Dec 2012 02:04 PM PST In September, Chevrolet delivered 2,961 units of its Volt plug-in extended-range hybrid. It was an all-time high, and it followed up from the 2,851 vehicles sold in October. Then came November: one way to look at it is that Volt sales rose by 33 percent compared to the same month in 2011. That's small consolation, though, for GM when total sales were just 1,519 cars – that's nearly half the number of the preceding months. Read more » |
Scoop: Hyundai's All-New 2014 Genesis Sedan Nearing Production Posted: 04 Dec 2012 01:38 PM PST If someone were to tell you 10 years ago that Hyundai and its sister company Kia would try to battle Germany's finest car brands with a rear-wheel drive luxury sedan, you would probably laugh at their face. Today, the German's are not in the least amused by the Koreans efforts, which started with the Hyundai Genesis premium sedan that was launched in production trim in 2008. Surprisingly for an Asian model, the Genesis sedan has aged well cosmetically, though, in all fairness, Hyundai's designers did take some styling notes from their counterparts in Munich… Nevertheless, Hyundai wants to keep its mid-size model relevant against the competition, so it's currently completing the development of the second generation Genesis Sedan, which according to Hyundai Motor Company CEO Kim Choon-ho, will launch towards the end of 2013. Oh, the Irony…Russian Driver Listening to The Cure's Song "Close to Me" Sandwiched by Trucks Posted: 04 Dec 2012 12:48 PM PST It's funny how things connect sometimes. A driver, who on YouTube is listed as being from Russia, was driving down a highway on a rainy day while listening to the sounds of a 1985 song from British brand "The Cure" named "Close to me". Lotus Sues Former CEO Dany Bahar for Allegedly Renting Properties, Taking Helicopter Trips and More Posted: 04 Dec 2012 12:13 PM PST When Dany Bahar left Ferrari in 2009 to become Lotus' new CEO, he knew his main task would be to turn the cash-burning British sports car maker, which at the time was owned by Proton, around. It took him one year to show the world how he would do it: by launching five new models, including a new Esprit, by 2015 and returning Lotus to profitability by 2014. Read more » |
First Official Photos of All-New 2014 Audi RS6 Avant Powered by a 552HP Bi-Turbo V8 Posted: 04 Dec 2012 11:41 AM PST Ingolstadt's station wagon from hell is back with a vengeance. We're talking, of course, about the new generation of the Audi RS6 Avant, the first pictures and preliminary specifications of which hit the interwebs today. From what we're told by our Russian comrades at Autowp, the new RS6 Avant waves goodbye to the previous model's 571hp (579PS) and 650Nm (479 lbf·ft) 5.0-liter bi-turbo V10 and gains Audi's brand new twin-turbocharged 4.0-litre V8 TFSI engine, which is said to deliver 552hp (560PS) and 700Nm (516 lb-ft) in this application. An eight-speed automatic drives all four wheels through Audi's quattro system with a sport differential. The Über station wagon is claimed to go from zero to 100km/h (62mph) in just 3.9 seconds and top out at 304km/h (189mph), all while being able to fit up to 1,680 liters of goods. Read more » |
Mini-Me Toyota 86 / Scion FR-S Doesn't Make the Cut at D1GP Drift Event Posted: 04 Dec 2012 11:05 AM PST If you're an avid fan of the art of drifting, you can't go wrong with Japan's D1 Grand Prix or D1GP professional drift series, unless, of course, you stumble upon the wrong car. We can't say for sure if Gazoo Racing's mini-me Toyota 86 (JDM version of the Scion FR-S) was plagued by a technical problem or if there was nothing wrong and it simply played the role of the rodeo clown, but either way, we can't say we were impressed by its entrance on the track at a recent D1GP drift event in Odaiba, Japan. Lexus Confirms All-New LF-CC-Inspired 2014 IS Sedan for Detroit Auto Show Posted: 04 Dec 2012 09:59 AM PST The next generation of Infiniti's G series sedan won't be the only new Japanese premium sedan to make its world premiere at the 2013 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS for short) in Detroit next month, as it will be joined by the all-new 2014 Lexus IS. As you may have expected, Lexus isn't ready to share pictures and details about the new IS just yet, but it did have this to say about its BMW 3-Series rival: Read more » |
Spied: Rolls Royce Ghost Coupe Makes Another Appearance on the 'Ring Posted: 04 Dec 2012 09:44 AM PST Like many other European luxury carmakers, Rolls Royce is also looking outside its home market to increase sales, with the British firm's CEO Torsten Mueller-Oetvoes revealing plans to expand the number of dealers from 105 today to 120 in countries including Chile, Thailand and Vietnam, during an interview with Bloomberg News. DeLorean NYC Taxi Concept Promises to Take You Back to Another Time Posted: 04 Dec 2012 08:31 AM PST As the great Dr. Emmett "Doc" Brown once put it, "Once this baby hits 88 miles per hour, you're going to see some serious s*it." Sadly, time-travel has yet to be invented, but that's not the only problem with this New York City taxicab that's based on the DeLorean featured in the Back to the Future trilogy. Read more » |
Mitsubishi Thinks it Can Fix U.S. Sales with New Outlander SUV and Mirage Hatch Posted: 04 Dec 2012 07:58 AM PST With the U.S. car market growing 15 percent in November and 14 percent from the beginning of the year, you would expect a mainstream company like Mitsubishi to show at least some gains, but that's not the case. In fact, the Japanese automaker posted sales of just 3,754 cars in November, down 4 percent from the same month last year, while from January through November, Mitsubishi's has seen its sales shrink by 28 percent to 53,677 cars. To put it in perspective, Mitsubishi's yearly sales from all five models that remain in its range in the States (Lancer, Galant, Outlander, Outlander Sport and i-MiEV) are roughly a fourth of the Prius sales (216,619 units) and about the same as the number of ES sedans sold by Lexus (48,171) in the country. Angry Birds, The Russian Highway Edition Guest Starring Goofy Posted: 04 Dec 2012 07:07 AM PST After watching this video, you can add birds to the strange but true stories that take place on Russia's vast, and at times, rather dangerous network of highways and roads. On a side note, not that we are at all surprised, but the flock of birds proved much more careful and alert on the road than many of the human drivers who have been featured on these pages... Jeep CEO Confirms Diesel Grand Cherokee for Detroit, New Compass and Patriot in Q2 2013 Posted: 04 Dec 2012 05:47 AM PST There's a very good reason why in some markets, including the United Kingdom, SUVs like the Jeep Grand Cherokee are offered exclusively with diesel powerplants, and U.S. consumers will soon find that out firsthand. At the 2013 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit next month, Jeep will reveal a diesel version of the Grand Cherokee, which will arrive in dealerships across the country at the end of the first quarter, the company's CEO Mike Manley told WardsAuto. McLaren MP4-12C Spider Makes its Italian Premiere at the 37th Bologna Motor Show Posted: 04 Dec 2012 04:36 AM PST McLaren has made no secret that it wants each of its models to outgun Ferrari. The MP4-12C coupe, capable as it is, was deemed too clinical and lost out to the 458, forcing McLaren to make some changes that will be retrofitted to cars already sold. Read more » |
