Mexican Presidential Guard Motorcyclist Overlooks Speed Bump and Goes Flying Into the Air

Posted: 05 Dec 2012 06:29 PM PST

Seems we spoke a few days too soon when we said that Laurent Cochet, a.k.a. Lolo, a French journalist with the Moto Journal magazine, made the biggest motorcycle fail of the year when he hit a metal post with his Yamaha FJR 1300 and fell face first into a boat.

We now have a new and much stronger candidate for that award, and he comes to us from Mexico. An unnamed police motorcyclist was travelling in front a presidential motorcade in Mexico City when he overlooked the speed bump on the road. Huge mistake…

Was BMW Right or Wrong to Rebadge the 3-Series Coupe as the 4-Series?

Posted: 05 Dec 2012 05:42 PM PST

The first ever BMW 3-Series, built from 1973 to 1985 and known by its internal codenamed E21, was offered only as a coupe. Yes, there was a convertible variant available through BMW's dealers but it was made by Baur, so it doesn't really count.

As the years passed by and the 3-Series became more and more successful on a global basis, BMW wanted to bank on that success and so it expanded the lineup to include sedans in both regular, and for China, long-wheelbase versions, three-door hatchbacks (E36 and E46 only), estates, convertibles and the famed M variants.

Rolling Down a Hill in a Minivan Looks Strangely Fun

Posted: 05 Dec 2012 04:45 PM PST

We don't know if tumbling or rolling (depending on the vehicle and the driver) down a rocky hill pass classifies as a legit motorsports event, but it sure looks like heaps of fun, at least when you're watching it from the comfort and safety of your computer desk, though, we must admit, we wouldn't mind trying it out ourselves... C&D Drives a Gallardo LP550-2 to Sample One of the Last Supercars with a Manual Gearbox

Posted: 05 Dec 2012 03:36 PM PST

It's an age-old story: technology and its advancements may be adopted by the general public but there are always some who will mourn the passing of the old ways.

There are still those who insist that vinyl records are way superior than compact discs, never mind that even that medium will soon join the one it replaced and give way to the fully-digital media.

In much the same way, there are people who bemoan the fact that semi-auto transmissions are becoming the new standard in supercars and manual gearboxes are getting pretty rare.

One of those studies showed how the Up! would look like with a tougher, SUV-like makeover, and was subsequently displayed in different colors at the Geneva Motor Show in March this year.

Nissan Says “Look Who’s Talking” After Fiat Implied that the Leaf is a Visual Pollution

Posted: 05 Dec 2012 02:14 PM PST

It seems that "green" vehicles are the new field of confrontation between big automotive groups. After Ford attacked Toyota's Prius claiming it's inferior to the Blue Oval's C-MAX Energi, Nissan and Fiat got into a fight about their EVs' designs.

Before the launch of the all-electric 500e at last week's LA Auto Show, head of Fiat product marketing Matt Davis told Bloomberg News: "Let's be honest, ugliness is probably one of the worst forms of pollution. The Fiat 500e proves that you do not have to give up on good looks to deliver an electric car."

BMW Video Walks Us Around the New Concept 4-Series Coupe

Posted: 05 Dec 2012 01:19 PM PST

Earlier today, BMW blew the covers off its newest study the Concept 4-Series Coupe, which between us, isn't much of a concept in the traditional sense of the word, unless you consider a car with bespoke bumper treatments and a full leather interior worthy of the 'concept' moniker.

That said, the 4-Series a 99 percent production ready version of the car that will begin to replace the 3-Series Coupe in BMW's range from 2014. The concept will bow at the Detroit Motor Show in mid-January.

Posted: 05 Dec 2012 12:48 PM PST

If you can afford it, the new Audi RS6 Avant is one of those cars that allows you to have a mid-life crisis without actually affecting the others around you, and by that, we mean you can get supercar-levels of performance with all the comfort amenities and more importantly, the space and practicality of a large family car.

Sadly, if you live in the States, this is one super wagon that you won't be able to park under your garage during this phase of your life.

In an email we received today from John Schilling, product communications manager for Audi North America, we were told that, the brand has "No plans on bringing the RS6 Avant here to the U.S.".

Asshat BMW Driver Tailgates and Honks Down a Couple on a Scooter

Posted: 05 Dec 2012 10:58 AM PST

There's a saying among some car enthusiasts about BMW drivers and porcupines. Obviously, we're not going to generalize and apply that trait to all Bimmer drivers, but we are going to say that this is indeed the case with the man driving this particular BMW.

Even if we accept the video poster and BMW driver's claims that the scooter driver and his passenger were drunk as skunks (and that's debatable), what he did next is inexcusable and makes no sense.

BMW's Sexy 4-Series Coupe Concept Officially Unveiled Before Detroit Auto Show [61 Photos]

Posted: 05 Dec 2012 08:40 AM PST

BMW's new 3-Series based coupe, which officially adopts the 4-Series moniker, has been making the rounds for quite some time now. Just a few hours ago, the first pictures of the car that will make its debut as a concept at the upcoming Detroit Motor Show were leaked online, so BMW decided there was no point in keeping it a secret anymore.

The brand with the roundel logo says it ditched the 3-Series Coupe moniker in favor of the "4" because it wants to differentiate it from its compact saloon and at the same time, underline the new model's stature in its line-up that will use even numbers for coupes (or four-door sports saloons in the case of the Gran Coupes).

The new 4-Series measures 4,641 mm long, 1,826 mm wide and 1,362 mm tall, which means it's longer (by 29 mm /1.1 inches), broader (by 44 mm /1.7 inches) and lower (by 16 mm / 0.6 inches) than the current 3-Series Coupe.

Compared to the model it will replace, it also boasts a 50 mm (2-inch) longer wheelbase that stands at 2,850 mm. Moreover, its 1,545 mm front and 1,593 mm rear tracks are 45 and 80 mm (1.8 and 3.1 inches) wider respectively.

It's one thing being annoyed over something as trivial as to who's going to give way first on the road, and another when you take unwise actions and endanger the lives of others drivers and pedestrians like these two swell-headed egomaniacs.

The men behind the wheels of the Nissan Teana sedan and the Mazda CX-9 crossover were trying to intimidate each other in a stupid game of chicken on the road by swerving left and right.

New BMW 4-Series Coupe Concept Photos Leak on the Web; Think it's a Looker?

Posted: 05 Dec 2012 05:13 AM PST

Official imagery of the all-new and for the most part, production ready BMW Concept 4-Series was leaked onto the internet today, several weeks ahead of the car's world premiere at the 2013 Detroit Motor Show.

The concept study confirms the different nomenclature BMW has chosen for the coupe, convertible and the Gran Coupe sports sedan variants of the F30 generation 3-Series.

So how close is the study to the production model that will follow next year? Well, BMW has a tradition of lightly masking upcoming models and naming them concepts. All you have to do is look at the 2010 Concept 6-Series to see that the Concept 4-Series is 99 percent ready.

The only components we see changing are the tail lamp graphics, the rear bumper design and the full leather treatment with accent stitching for the interior that shares the same dashboard with the 3-Series Sedan and Touring models.
