Aussie Cops Looking for This "Menacing" Go-Kart Hoon in Sydney

Posted: 14 Dec 2012 04:53 PM PST

What might look to us like a foolish act by a young man who rode a go-kart on a busy road in Sydney's southwest, has infuriated Australian police as well as the local media.

A passenger of a car following on from behind filmed the man traveling on the road before he slammed on the brakes, losing control and performing a 180-degree turn to avoid running a red light.

Renault-Nissan Takes Over AvtoVAZ, Plans to Revive Lada and Increase Sales in Russia

Posted: 14 Dec 2012 04:05 PM PST

With the Eurozone debt crisis stifling new car sales, auto manufacturers are looking elsewhere to make up for lost ground. China may be the world's largest market but after years of rapid expansion, it shows signs of slowing down.

New car sales in Russia, on the other hand, increased last year by 40 percent to more than 2.6 million vehicles. Even though the rate of increase is expected to cool down, with 2012 sales estimated to be around 2.9 million units, it is still a very interesting prospect.

New Acura App Lets You Put Some Color to NSX Pre-Production Concept

Posted: 14 Dec 2012 03:41 PM PST

We've seen it in the flesh at motor shows; we've seen it in virtual form on GT5; we've seen it with Honda badges; we've seen it in a Super Bowl commercial; we've seen it in a red shade, and we've even seen it as a roadster in a Hollywood blockbuster.

Yes, we're talking about the Acura NSX pre-production concept and if you haven't figured it out already, we're going to be "seeing" a lot more of the Japanese brand's hybrid sports car since it won't be ready for sale before 2014.

2013 North American Car and Truck of the Year Finalists: Which Ones Do You Think Will Win?

Posted: 14 Dec 2012 03:04 PM PST

Last year, Ford, with its Focus, was the sole U.S. manufacturer included in the final list for the North American Car and Truck of the Year award and it finished in third place, behind the VW Passat and the winner, Hyundai's Elantra.

Even more surprising was the truck class where the Range Rover Evoque beat the Honda CR-V and the BMW X3. Where is this world coming to if U.S. manufacturers can't build an SUV or truck to make an impression in their own market?

Driver Proves 2013 Rolls Royce Phantom Can be Fun and Slightly Destructive Off the Road

Posted: 14 Dec 2012 02:08 PM PST

A YouTube user named "TaxTheRich100", who you may remember from a recent video containing footage of a rare Bugatti EB110 SS, has shared a new clip with us, this time showing a 2013 Rolls Royce Phantom Series II – yes, that's the one officially introduced in March this year – in some politically incorrect action.

By that, we mean the driver took the £350,000 (~ €430,000 / US$560,000), 2.6 tonne beast for a mildly destructive ride on the picturesque British countryside.

While Skoda told us that we should expect to see the high-performance RS (or vRS in the United Kingdom) version of the newly introduced 2013 Octavia sometime next year, the automaker itself seems to have uploaded the car on its official configurator by mistake (?).

The images from Skoda's site are a tad fuzzy, but they still allow us to see what the new Octavia RS will look like on the outside.

Why is This Man Freaking Out Screaming "Kill Me" and "Sprechen Sie Deutsch"? [NSFW]

Posted: 14 Dec 2012 10:59 AM PST

Just so you don't start thinking that Russia is the only country in the world where crazy things happen on the road, here's a bizarre incident that took place in Rochester, Michigan.

For the record, we first stumbled upon a version of the video uploaded on YouTube today, but upon further research, we discovered an older edition uploaded by a user nicknamed "onetwodo2001" in April of 2011, which we believe to be the original (if we're wrong, send us a message).

The driver with the camera slows down when he sees a white Cadillac DTS that had exited the road at the point where a black Corvette had pulled (?) over.

Does the Ferrari F150's Front End Remind You of the SRT Viper?

Posted: 14 Dec 2012 11:45 AM PST

Yes, yes, we know that we haven't seen the new Ferrari F150 (that's Maranello's official code-name) in its entirety and that depending on your point of view, you can probably find similarities between each and every passenger car, but for the sake of conversation, we'd like to pass on a question, which came up from one of our readers.

No, we are not talking about the "Whale shark?" remark on our post with the first official teasers of the F150, but "The Italian Viper?" comment that followed.

Posted: 14 Dec 2012 07:29 AM PST

While in the U.S., infotainment systems with all sorts of apps are all the rage, European new car buyers seem to want more extreme personalization options from manufactures.

This could be because they don't really fancy having the exact same car as their next-door neighbor or the one next to the company parking lot.

Posted: 14 Dec 2012 06:57 AM PST

When it comes to vehicles that are abandoned or parked illegally, most municipalities will issue tickets with the hope that owners will pay up and conform to the law, but sometimes, more drastic measures are called for.

In Russia, for example, some cities have no problem taking matters into their own hands and settling the problem once and for all, giving owners a tough lesson.

Now we learn that Chinese website AutoSina captured a camouflage-free prototype of the updated S80L, which is a China-market only version of the car sporting a 140mm or 5.5-inches longer wheelbase.

2014 Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra Pickup Twins Unveiled [Photos & Videos]

Posted: 14 Dec 2012 07:02 PM PST

Full-size pickup trucks are an important segment to General Motors. That's why its 2014 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra models that were revealed ahead of their world premiere at the Detroit Motor Show in January may look similar to the outgoing versions, but they are quite different, and much more technologically advanced, under the skin.

GM's new full-size trucks underwent more than 6 million miles of durability testing at the Milford Proving Ground, over the deserts and mountains of Nevada and across the frozen flats of Ontario. That's equivalent to 240 trips around the earth. In addition, the trucks will accumulate more than 7 million real-world miles during final testing, bringing total test miles to more than 13 million.

That's because, as executive chief engineer for full- and mid-size trucks Jeff Luke said, "Don't let the work boots fool you. Truck customers are among the most discerning and demanding in the business".

Almost two-thirds of the cabin structure, the main rails and key cross members of the frame are made of high-strength steel in order to improve rigidity and keeping weight down, while new shear-style body mounts help absorb body movements for a more relaxed drive.

Revamped 2014 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Gets New Face, Engines and Tech [69 Photos & Video]

Posted: 14 Dec 2012 04:09 AM PST

When the first photos of the 2014 E-Class surfaced, it was instantly obvious that Mercedes-Benz's mid-size premium model wasn't a simple nip-and-tuck job, as is customary with mid-life facelifts. Instead, Stuttgart's designers had gone to the trouble of completely changing the entire front end of the car.

First of all, they ditched the four separate headlamps, an E-Class staple since 1995, in favor of a single one-piece unit on each side that encompasses all lighting elements. Mercedes says that the graphic design of the inner elements retain the "four-eyed" look while both the day-time running lights and the dipped beam have partial LED lights as standard and full LED lights are offered as an option.

For the first time, the E-Class, like the smaller C-Class, will be available with two different front-end designs. The base and Elegance trim levels feature the classic grille with three louvers and the three-pointed star on the bonnet, while the Avantgarde gets the sporty treatment with the star integrated in the grille.

In profile, the 2014 E-Class replaces the pontoon-style rear side panels with a new feature line that runs from the rear door to the elongated, LED taillights and, according to the company, emphasizes the side trim that has been shifted downwards and gives the car a more elongated shape.
