Posted: 06 Dec 2012 06:11 PM PST

The latest generation of the Grandeur has only been on the market since early 2011 in South Korea, and even less in the United States where it launched as the all-new 2012 Azera in April this year, yet Hyundai has released a subtle refresh for its mid-size sedan in its home country.

For the 2013 model year, the Grandeur gets a new waterfall-like front grille along with a fresh selection of colors and alloy wheel designs on the outside.

Drive Goes Inside Jaguar’s Nürburgring Test Facility, Samples the XKR-S

Posted: 06 Dec 2012 05:31 PM PST

Maybe some of you are thinking, "oh, it's just another Nürburgring video where a lucky chap is having a blast driving a powerful car". Bear with us, though, because it's much more than that.

In fact, it's a look at the inside workings of a car maker's dedicated Nordschleife test center. Jaguar has been visiting the 13-mile-long track for more than two decades and it was one of the first manufacturers to set up shop there, just outside the track's northern loop, in 2003.

Now it's time for a similarly-themed and named satire that targets drivers of the third generation BMW 3-Series, codenamed E36, that was built from 1991 through 1998.

Tesla Motors Under Federal Investigation for Using Foreign Instead of U.S.-Made Parts

Posted: 06 Dec 2012 04:37 PM PST

Electric car manufacturer Tesla Motors has had its ups and downs in recent months. It may still be in the red and facing the wrath of traditional dealers over its Apple-like stores, but its Model S received a lot of praise, and unlike rival Fisker Automotive, it hasn't been involved in massive (and image-damaging) recalls.

What it does have in common with Fisker, though, is federal agencies questioning their spending of federal loans. According to a report from The Washington Times, the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency has been conducting an investigation on Tesla for nearly a year.

New and Blue Audi R8 China Edition Looking for 80 Wealthy Chinese Customers

Posted: 06 Dec 2012 03:45 PM PST

With a population in excess of 1.3 billion and a booming economy, something tells us that Audi won't have much of a problem finding 80 buyers interested in its limited run R8 China Edition that was built exclusively for the country featured in its name.

In what will likely sound odd to the ears of Westerners, the cars will be numbered from 1 to 99, and that's because Chinese consider 4 an unlucky number, so Audi decided to eliminate it.

Spied: Mercedes-Benz Takes GLA Baby-SUV Out to Play in the Snow

Posted: 06 Dec 2012 02:25 PM PST

While no one expects a crossover like the upcoming Mercedes-Benz GLA (keep in mind, the name is not final) to be a true-blue off-roader, Stuttgart's engineers are making sure that their new model will be able to handle itself properly on more extreme conditions such as snow covered forest paths and roads.

Our spy shooters captured a more lightly camouflaged GLA prototype while undergoing its first cold weather testing in Northern Europe.

Consumer Reports Slams Ford for Overstating Fusion and C-MAX Hybrids 47MPG Fuel Economy

Posted: 06 Dec 2012 01:30 PM PST

If you've been following our news stories, you will no doubt be aware of Ford's brazen mpg claims about the Fusion Hybrid sedan and the C-Max Hybrid minivan, and how both trump Toyota models.

To remind you, Ford states that both the new 2013 Fusion Hybrid and C-Max Hybrid deliver "47 city/47 highway/47 combined mpg".

Fueled [pun intended] by the recent discovery that Hyundai and Kia overstated the gas mileage on some 900,000 vehicles sold in the U.S. in the past couple of years, Consumer Reports (CR) put Ford's mpg claims to the test, and the results were far below the 47mpg mark.

What makes the Korean-born student's conceptual study for an all-electric Tesla hatchback more interesting, is that it was penned as an internship project while working at the Silicon Valley-based carmaker.

Chevrolet to Rush in a Facelift for New Malibu Next Year to Address Criticism and Lackluster Sales

Posted: 06 Dec 2012 09:07 AM PST

Normally, automakers present a mid-cycle update approximately three to four years after the launch of a new model. If a refresh comes earlier, this means that a car manufacturer is disappointed by the way it has been received by consumers, the media or both.

Such was the case with the 2012 Honda Civic that received a makeover only 18 months after its conception, with the 2013 model making its official debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show last week.

Honda isn't the only company to go down this road as General Motors is also planning to revamp one of its newest entries in the market, the 2013 Chevrolet Malibu.

VW gets Fizzy with New Eco Up! that can Run on Natural Gas, Biomethane or Petrol

Posted: 06 Dec 2012 08:32 AM PST

Volkswagen has just presented a new edition of its Up! mini called "Eco", which features a modified version of the regular model's 1.0-liter three-cylinder petrol engine that can run on Compressed Natural Gas, or CNG for short.

CNG is a promising alternative fuel to gasoline that has caught up with many European consumers.

Among the many benefits of this fuel is that it has a higher energy content than petrol or diesel as 1.0 kg of natural gas is equivalent to 1.3 litres of diesel or 1.5 litres of petrol. According to VW, the energy content of 1.0 kg natural gas amounts to 11.69 kW, while the associated quantity of diesel yields 9.86 kWh and of petrol, 8.77 kWh.

This is What Happens When You Ignore Speed Signs on a Twisty Road

Posted: 06 Dec 2012 07:50 AM PST

Many motorcycles are built for speed, but you have to keep in mind that you should always carefully select the time and place to put a bike and your own limits to the test.

A biker, who we come to know by his YouTube alias "RiceRocketKev", learned that the hard and painful way – they always do, don't they?- while rocketing through a twisty mountain road, but was blessed to live another day to tell the tale.

His GoPro helmet camera filmed the incident that started with RiceRocketKev blasting by a group of other motorcycles. About a minute or so later, he passes and…ignores a 20mph (32km/h) speed sign going around 85mph (137km/h).

Scoop: Kia's New Pro_Cee’d GT Hot Hatch Busted

Posted: 06 Dec 2012 06:37 AM PST

This past Monday, Kia revealed the first details and a second teaser sketch of its upcoming Cee'd five-door and Pro_Cee'd three-door hot hatchbacks, a few months ahead of their world premiere at the Geneva auto show in March next year.

Now, we have a batch of fresh spy shots of a Pro_Cee'd GT prototype as it was entering Kia's technical center in Germany.

The car was heavily camouflaged, but we can still see some of the details such as the unique 18-inch alloy wheels with red brake calipers, side skirts, the large oval tailpipes on either side of the rear diffuser, and with a little bit of effort, the aluminum trim and leather Recaro sport seats inside.

If Kia hadn't covered up the Pro_Cee'd GT, we would also have seen the rest of the aerodynamic add-on parts like the rear spoiler, the new front grille and lamp clusters, while the Koreans have said that the interior will gain a sports steering wheel, alloy pedals and bespoke surface materials.

Shoehorning a 638hp Corvette ZR1-sourced, 6.2-liter supercharged LS9 V8 into a lightweight Lotus Elise is in itself, insane, but choosing to swap the stock supercharger for twin ball bearing turbochargers that push output to 1,244 horsepower takes craziness to a completely different level.
