| Future Cars: We Dream up Chevrolet's 2014 SS in a ZL1 Costume Posted: 15 Dec 2012 05:52 PM PST  As many of our readers are probably already aware, Chevrolet is entering next year's NASCAR championship with an entirely new model aptly called the SS, which was previewed in Las Vegas just last month. The Super Sport racer will be unique to the championship as the production-going road car has yet to be revealed and won't even built in the United States; to find it's country of origin you'll have to get an atlas and turn it upside down; yes that's right, it will be built in the backyard that Crocodile Dundee calls home - Australia. Based on the Zeta architecture, the new SS won't be entirely new to the market when it goes on sale next year as a 2014 model. In fact, it's GM's second attempt to get the Holden-based Commodore on US shores - with the last try drying up after the Pontiac division was dissolved.

Acura NSX Aquaplanes Off the Road Narrowly Missing Bridge Posted: 15 Dec 2012 02:20 PM PST  The driver of a modded Acura NSX, sold as a Honda in markets outside of North America, was filmed by a passenger of a Nissan 240SX (we don't know if he was one of his buddies or not) following on from behind when he lost control of the Japanese sports car on a freeway north of the city of San Diego in California. Given the heavy rain and the fact that the NSX doesn't look like it was going fast, we'll have to assume that the wet conditions forced the mid-engine coupe to aquaplane and slide off the road. | U Spy: BMW i3 Coupe Concept Parked on the Streets of LA Posted: 15 Dec 2012 12:31 PM PST  As we were reminded earlier this week, BMW has been working on electric cars for four decades now beginning with the 1602 Electric in 1972, and next year, it will introduce its first series production EV in the form of the all-new i3 five-door supermini. At the recent LA Auto Show, BMW displayed a three-door concept version of the sub-compact model named the i3 Coupe, and it is this car that CarScoop reader Alfred H. spotted on the road this week. | Jaguar F-Type Prototypes Driven by Three World-Class Racers Posted: 15 Dec 2012 10:00 AM PST  So far, the F-Type has gained nothing but praise. That's mainly because of its looks, though, being a two-seater open-top sports car with a choice of three supercharged engine options that send power to the rear wheels must have helped, too. Jaguar brought in three TV presenters to sample prototypes of the F-Type on the Snetterton track and the roads around it. To be fair, their job description is not entirely accurate. Yes, they are employed by television channels such as BBC, ITV, Sky Sports and Speed Channel to host or comment on car shows and racing series but their resume is much richer than that: they all are former world-class professional racing drivers, too. | New Silverado and Sierra Pickups’ Success May Help the Government Offload GM Stake Posted: 15 Dec 2012 06:41 AM PST  President Barack Obama has always stood behind the 2009 bailouts of General Motors and Chrysler and he was vindicated as both companies made a surprising recovery in a very short time period. While Chrysler is out of the picture, the U.S. government still holds a 32 percent stake in GM and is searching on how to implement an exit strategy without losing a large portion of the S$51 million it poured in the automaker during the bailout. Analysts believe that the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra full-size pickups that were unveiled this week may provide the administration with the way out that it needs. Read more »   |
