What the Blazing Sparks Just Happened Here?

Posted: 17 Dec 2012 06:15 PM PST

If our calculations are correct, when this baby hits 88 miles per hour, you're gonna see some serious shit.

But seriously now and putting aside one of the most memorable quotes from the Back to the Future flick, can you tell from this short dashcam video, what exactly occurred in this incident, which may or may not have taken place on a New Jersey highway?

Infiniti Adopts New Naming Strategy, Next G Series will be Called the Q50

Posted: 17 Dec 2012 04:21 PM PST

Out with the old, in with the new, or at least that's what Infiniti is saying about its new nomenclature.

Beginning from next year, Infiniti will use the letter "Q" for all sedan, coupe and convertible models and the letters "QX" for SUVs and crossovers, adding a double digit at the end of both to signify the series and the hierarchy within the range.

The first Infiniti model to wear the brand's new badges is the G series' successor that will be revealed in sedan trim at the Detroit auto show in mid-January, and which will be called the Q50.

2014 BMW Z4 Roadster Ever So Faintly Revised, Gains New Entry Level sDrive18i Edition [85 Photos]

Posted: 17 Dec 2012 03:58 PM PST

If you were waiting for BMW to apply some of the design lessons learned from Zagato's Coupe and Roadster concepts or at least take some inspiration from this speculative photoshop for its updated, 2014MY Z4, you'll be disappointed.

In fact, you will probably have to be an owner of the current model or a very dedicated Z4 fan to distinguish the styling changes on the hardtop roadster. These are limited to the three-dimensional design of the LED light rings on the headlamps, the BMW lettering on the LED accent lights on top, the new available 17- and 18-inch alloy wheels and a newly designed, tapered surround for the side indicators.

In addition, BMW has added a new Hyper Orange package that can be ordered with three new colors named Mineral Grey metallic, Glacier Silver metallic and Valencia Orange metallic, the latter of which is featured on the car pictured in this gallery,

This new styling package dresses up the interior of the Z4 in a combination of black leather and Alcantara with orange accent stiches, stripes, and door panels, a metal weave trim for the dashboard, and high-gloss black for the door openers and the gearshift or selector lever.

Convoy of 2014 BMW X5 and Possibly X5M Prototypes Filmed in Georgia

Posted: 17 Dec 2012 03:14 PM PST

A YouTuber who goes by the name Frank Steele stumbled upon a convoy of five 2014 BMW X5 prototypes in the city of Chamblee in Georgia, this past Sunday.

We can't be 100 percent certain because of the quality of the video and the fact that the cars were on the move, but there's a good chance that the first model seen in clip may be an M Performance model or an X5 fitted with the M Sport Package, while the fourth test car looks like it could be the new X5M.

2014 Corvette C7 Shows its Nose on GM Service Manual

Posted: 17 Dec 2012 01:04 PM PST

While Chevrolet was releasing the third and in our opinion, less interesting of the…rather tedious video trailers for its upcoming Corvette C7, GM allegedly sent scoop photographer Chris Doane this image from a service manual for the "Front brake cooling deflector kit installation", which he then posted on his Facebook page.

The drawings show the front end of the new 2014 Corvette, which features more prominent and larger headlamps than the current model along with a distinct hood scoop(s) and the front fender air outlet.

Oh, Oh, Someone Just Ditched an Alfa Romeo 4C Prototype…

Posted: 17 Dec 2012 12:29 PM PST

It's been a year and nine months since Alfa Romeo pulled the covers off the impressive 4C Sports Coupe concept at the 2011 Geneva motor show, and even though it had been initially suggested that we could see the final production model on sale this year, obviously that never happened.

Alfa Romeo officials have said that this may happen sometime in 2013, but with the Italian brand, one can never take these statements for granted – Alfa's on and off return to the U.S. market is a prime example…

Well, while we're waiting for the Italians to give us a date on the only interesting model it has in store for us , a driver in Italy spotted a camouflaged prototype of the 4C coupe -ahem- stranded on the side of a road.

Toyota to Regain Sales Throne, VW and GM Fight for Second in the Best Year Ever for Car Sales

Posted: 17 Dec 2012 11:59 AM PST

Having dropped to third position after a number of disasters crippled its production in 2011, Toyota looks set to reclaim the title of the world's largest automaker this year. This leaves General Motors and the VW Group to fight it out for second place until the last moment as they currently have a sales difference of less than 1 percent.

According to a report from Autonews, based on the automakers' own data, Toyota is in first place through the first three quarters of the year with 7.4 million units, followed by GM with 6.95 million deliveries and the Volkswagen Group at 6.9 million sales.

Someone Should Find this Driver and Report Him/Her to the Police

Posted: 17 Dec 2012 11:17 AM PST

Making an honest mistake while sitting behind the wheel is one thing, being careless or to put it bluntly, a complete asshat, is quite another.

On Sunday, the driver of a previous generation Honda CR-V (possibly in Taiwan - if we're wrong, tell us in the comments) was filmed by a motorcyclist making an extremely dangerous move on the road when he or she drove between a Nissan Sentra and a scooter driven by a father with his child riding at the back, almost knocking them down.

New Renault Captur Reportedly Revealed in Patent Drawings

Posted: 17 Dec 2012 10:32 AM PST

We already knew from the spy shots that Renault's production version of the 2011 Geneva Motor Show Captur study wouldn't be anywhere near as exciting as the concept, but if you need further proof, here's a set of patent drawings that were listed on a French forum.

The as-of-yet unnamed crossover model looks like a longer, taller, and beefier version of the fourth generation Clio, which might not be a bad thing, but it definitely leaves a lot to be desired when you compare it with the original concept.

If you're willing to trade some passenger space for a more stylish body and at the same time, don't care about the €25,000 (about US$32,900, in Germany) premium over BMW's other super-fast sports saloon, the M5, then by all means, you should check out the new M6 Gran Coupe.

After announcing the 34 nominees (38 if you include re-badged models like the Seat Toledo and Subaru BRZ) in late September, the organizing committee of the European edition of the Car of the Year award has now released the short list with the 8 finalists.

Normally, the short list includes 7 models, but due to the fact that two cars tied in the same position during the voting process, the committee increased the number of finalists to eight, just as it did in the 2007 edition of the award.

Dodge Cummins Drags Chevrolet Silverado Around a Parking Lot During Crazy Tug of War [NSFW]

Posted: 17 Dec 2012 07:30 AM PST

Whoever said that watching pickup trucks isn't fun, hasn't obviously witnessed a mechanical tug-of-war.

A group of young Americans who didn't have anything better to do on what we assume to be a Friday night since the video was uploaded on Saturday, Dec. 15, watched two of their peers stage a tugging war at a parking lot with their trucks, a Chevrolet Silverado and a diesel-powered Dodge Ram Cummins.

The Silverado not only lost hands down, but the overzealous driver of the diesel Dodge truck took the Chevy for a foolishly dangerous victory run around the parking lot. Naturally, all hell broke loose once he stopped…

Posted: 17 Dec 2012 06:14 AM PST

There's no need to explain why we're getting impatient for the full reveal of the upcoming 2014 Corvette C7, and to be honest, Chevrolet isn't really helping with its video trailers, the third of which was released online today.

After the first trailer that talked about the seventh generation Corvette's body and aerodynamics and the second one called 'Calibration' in which we saw the sports car's digital instrument cluster, the third episode is named 'Craft' and it tells us about the upscale materials and craftsmanship that goes into the creation of its new interior…again, without really showing anything.
