Posted: 10 Dec 2012 04:22 PM PST

In September, Apple decided to ditch Google Maps from its iOS 6 iPhone operating system in favor of its own navigation app. From a commercial point of view, it surely makes sense to promote your own products instead of those of your rivals.

Obviously, the folks at Cupertino should have ensured that their map app was accurate before making it the sole option for iOS6 users. In Australia, police have gone as far as to warn drivers of using Apple's map app.

The i3 was previewed by a concept study at last year's Frankfurt Motor Show. The prototype is powered by a 170HP electric motor, although BMW has revealed that the production model will also feature a range-extending gasoline engine that will work as a battery generator.

That much you may know as the Munich-based automaker has been promoting its i sub-brand heavily, the most recent example being the i3 Coupe, a three-door version of the 2011 study.

EPA to Review Ford Fusion and C-MAX Hybrids After Consumer Reports’ MPG Findings

Posted: 10 Dec 2012 02:05 PM PST

Ford has been making a lot of noise about the mileage of its Fusion and C-MAX hybrids, claiming that their 47 mpg city/highway/combined mileage easily beat rival Toyota Camry and Prius models.

When tested by Consumer Reports (CR) though, both Ford hybrids' MPGs were found overstated. Actually, that's an understatement: the publication bashed the two Blue Oval hybrids saying that "these two vehicles have the largest discrepancy between our overall-mpg results and the estimates published by the EPA that we've seen among any current models."

Ouch! That must have hurt…

As scary as this incident may have been for the driver and passengers of the vehicle fitted with the dashboard camera, it could have ended, worse…much, much worse.

The passenger car was traveling on the highway when a truck on the opposite side of the road (look at the 15-second mark) suddenly turned or lost control, we cannot be certain from this distance, and crossed through the other lane.

Posted: 10 Dec 2012 01:05 PM PST

Having cars like the Aston Martin DB9 and V8 Vantage and the BMW Z8 in your portfolio is quite an achievement. Building your own car company from scratch beats that – even more so, when you factor in that you haven't celebrated your 50th birthday yet.

Henrik Fisker is the man who has done all of the above. Fisker Automotive may have rolled out its Karma luxury plug-in hybrid sedan but is facing some problems, the most pressing of which is the lack of finance.

Many things have changed over the 33 years that passed since George Miller's classic dystopian action flick Mad Max hit the big screen, but the blacked out Pursuit Special that served as Max Rockatansky's (played by Mel Gibson) police car remains as cool as ever.

The original Pursuit Special was a 1973 Ford Falcon XB GT, one of the most popular sports coupes in Australia at the time. A team led by Murray Smith modified the Aussie coupe into the beast that starred in the movie.

All those fat cats out there might buying their Ferraris, Lamborghinis, Paganis or whatever they fancy but, let's face it, these supercars are not really that practical to drive day in, day out. VW's Polo R WRC is a 220HP, €33,900 Celebration of its Entry into World Rallying [106 Photos]

Posted: 10 Dec 2012 05:10 AM PST

Like every year, the 2013 World Rally Championship's first race will be the Monte Carlo Rally. Even though the event won't start until January 15, VW chose the Principality to host the launch of both its 2013 WRC racer and the road-going version that will make its motor show debut at next year's Geneva Salon.

The Polo R WRC, which was displayed last March as a concept during the Wörthersee Tour festival, is a limited edition based on VW's supermini that will be produced in just 2,500 units priced at US$33,900 (US$43,800) a pop. The order books open on Tuesday, December 11, though the first customers won't receive their cars until September 2013.

A white paint job with blue and grey stripes, an aggressive front bumper with large intakes that's supposed to echo that of the racer's, 18-inch "Cagliari" wheels with 215/35 tires and a rear roof spoiler and diffuser make this limited edition Polo stand out from lesser versions.
