Skoda Drops New Images of 2013 Octavia III Including First of the Interior

Posted: 07 Dec 2012 04:31 PM PST

If what the rumor mill is saying is true, then we're literally counting days until the online unveiling of the next generation of Skoda's most popular model, the 2013 Octavia Mk3, which could explain the number of teaser images being released by the Czech carmaker.

A couple of days after Skoda provided us a set with photos of the rear combination lights and the rear window and C-column treatment, the VW Group-owned company published three more images on Friday.

Posted: 07 Dec 2012 04:02 PM PST

Fiat-Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne has accused the VW Group of taking advantage of its overseas profits to undercut its rivals in the European market and, thus, create a "bloodbath" for their sales.

Despite VW calling for his resignation as president of the ACEA, the European Auto Manufacturers' Association, they subsequently made up, with VW CEO Martin Winterkorn and Marchionne settling the issue during the Paris Auto Show.

What Exactly Was this Bicyclist Trying to Do?

Posted: 07 Dec 2012 03:29 PM PST

Good old Russia (or so we're told that this incident happened in the land of fire and ice) never fails to entertain us.

Who knows why, though we're pretty sure you can think of a few reasons if you try hard enough, but a bicyclist travelling on the road tried to jump over a car that was slowly heading towards him.

EPA Says 1 in 4 New Vehicles Meets 2016 Emission Standards Today; 2025 is Another Issue

Posted: 07 Dec 2012 02:33 PM PST

Apparently, meeting future emission standards shouldn't prove too hard for auto manufacturers as one would expect. That's because according to an Environmental Protection Agency official, one-quarter of all new vehicles today already meet federal emission standards that won't come into effect until 2016.

Jeff Alson, senior policy advisor at the EPA Office of Transportation and Air Quality, said during an event at the agency's Ann Arbor test facility that nearly 90 new models sold today either meet 2016 emission targets or can meet them simply with air condition improvements and no powertrain changes.

This Lamborghini Diablo Roadster Replica was Once a Proud Porsche Boxster

Posted: 07 Dec 2012 02:07 PM PST

There's no doubt that the Boxster series has been a wild sales success for Porsche, and being in the market for three generations and more than 16 years, means that you can find many used examples at affordable prices.

Up until recent years, replica car builders looked at the Pontiac Fiero when it came to cloning mid-engined models, but it's getting harder and harder to find worthwhile vehicles on the market, be that because the last ones were manufactured back in 1988, or because most of them have already been transformed into other models.

If it weren't for the Autoexpress logos, we would have sworn that this video was made by…Dacia as a publicity stunt to promote the sales launch of its new Sandero supermini, which will be the Romanian brand's first model to arrive in UK showrooms in January.

With a starting price of £5,995 (equal to €7,400 / US$9,600 at today's exchange rates), the five-door Sandero will also be the cheapest new car money can buy in Britain.

Suzuki may have pulled the plug on its automotive operations in North America, but in Europe, it's still alive (well, at least for now), thank you very much.

Yema Auto's All-Electric and All-Audi Looking Mustang F16 Enters Production

Posted: 07 Dec 2012 11:26 AM PST

It's been a little over a year since China's Yema Auto dazzled us with its replication capabilities when it introduced a new breed of clone concepts at the Chengdu Auto Show 2011 with the T-SUV (call me VW Tiguan), E-SUV (Infiniti EX) and the F16 and E-Taxi twins (Audi A4 Avant).

In the time that passed since then, Yema Auto's engineers worked hard to finish the development of one of those models, the F16, that is now ready for a small-scale production in battery-powered form under its sub brand Mustang.

You Won't Believe What this Truck Driver Found in the Middle of the Road

Posted: 07 Dec 2012 10:34 AM PST

Truck drivers have the unique opportunity to see many things while traveling on the road for miles and miles on end, some of which are interesting, some of which are boring and some of which are, well, just plain scary.

Without much debating, we decided that we are going to count this one as odd, shocking and mostly sad, all at the same time.

Jay Leno Drives the 2014 Lexus IS Sedan, Gives us a First Peak at the Interior

Posted: 07 Dec 2012 08:29 AM PST

2014 Lexus IS sedan
Just like it did last year with the all-new GS, Lexus invited the press to meet its next generation IS sedan before it unveils the car to the public at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit in mid-January.

Among those who received an invitation was U.S. comedian and television host Jay Leno who traveled all the way to Japan and the Fuji Motor Speedway to try out a pre-production prototype of the 2014 IS that was covered on the outside, but not on the inside, thus affording us our first view of the dashboard.

Leno hints at a longer wheelbase and a sportier chassis setup aimed to compete primarily against the BMW 3-Series and from the looks of things, GM's newcomer in the segment, the Cadillac ATS.

In a filing with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHSTA), BMW said an engine belt idler pulley bolt that could loosen and break over time causes the issue at hand.

Hyundai Introduces Facelifted 2013 Equus Luxury Sedan in South Korea

Posted: 07 Dec 2012 07:23 AM PST

Hyundai is on a roll these days updating or completely replacing its models one after the other.

Following yesterday's news on the subtly revised 2013 Grandeur or as North American consumers know the car, the Azera, Hyundai has now presented a facelifted version of its flagship Equus saloon in its home market of South Korea.

The current Equus is based on an extended version of the Genesis Sedan's platform and went on sale in Korea in 2009 and the United States in 2010.

For the 2013 model, Hyundai has applied some modest revisions to the car's exterior, mainly by removing the chrome trim strips on the front and rear bumpers, designing a new set of alloy wheels in two different sizes, adding new mirrors and making changes to the graphics of the LED tail lamps.

If You're Going to Anger Your Lady, You Better Hide Your Car or Else….

Posted: 07 Dec 2012 06:35 AM PST

Reminds us not piss off any Brazilian woman. Dozens of bystanders on a street in Vila Olímpia, an upper-class neighborhood in the city of Sao Paulo, Brazil, were treated to a spectacle earlier this week when a young woman lashed out her anger on her boyfriend's or according to some other accounts, husband's black Honda Accord.

The woman used anything she could get her angry hands on, from keys to bricks, to cause as much damage as she could on the Japanese sedan.

Porsche Teases 991-Based GT3 Cup Racer, Road-Going 911 GT3 Must Be Close

Posted: 07 Dec 2012 04:56 AM PST

If there's one thing we know about Porsche is that, no matter how many SUVs or sporty saloons it may churn out, it will never tinker with the trusted, 50-year old 911 philosophy. Truth be told, it did try to kill it once, back in the 1970s with the 928, but it failed – so it was a lesson it must have learned well.

That recipe isn't just about maintaining the iconic shape and the flat-six engine hung out behind the rear axle; it's also about launching a whole bunch of new variants of each generation.
