Posted: 09 Jan 2013 06:41 PM PST

Three very different schools of automotive thought came together at a Cars and Coffee meeting in Irvine, California, a couple of weeks ago, for a mechanical symphony comprised of 32 cylinders, 19.7-liters and a whopping 1,884-horses.

Thankfully, the revving competition between the Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4, 2013 SRT Viper and the Lexus LFA was captured on film by several visitors for our enjoyment.

Posted: 09 Jan 2013 04:41 PM PST

Instead, the Japanese automaker continues the teasing with a cropped shot of the sedan's rear quarter revealing its bubbly tail lamps and carbon fiber boot lid spoiler.

Watch This Driver Chase Down His Tow Truck

Posted: 09 Jan 2013 03:21 PM PST

All motorists should make sure that their vehicles are secured if they are going to leave the wheel and jump out with the engine running, perhaps even more so if you happen to be a professional driver of a truck.

There's no way of knowing if this tow truck driver forgot to pull the handbrake, if there was a mechanical failure or something else that we can't see from the video, but he's bound to have a lot of explaining to do…especially to the owner of the blue SUV that looks like it may have sustained some damages.

Spy Shots: Opel and Vauxhall Preparing Corsa for a Facelift Inspired by the Adam

Posted: 09 Jan 2013 02:03 PM PST

It looks like Opel and its sister company from Britain, Vauxhall, will give the current, fourth-generation Corsa supermini that has been in production since 2006 an extension in life with a mild facelift.

GM's European division was likely led to the decision to update instead of replace the aging Corsa due to its own financial troubles as well as the tough economic environment in the Old Continent that has plagued sales in most countries.

Survey Shows Carmakers Remain Skeptic about EV Sales, will Invest in Internal Combustion Engines

Posted: 09 Jan 2013 12:30 PM PST

It seems that, despite all the noise they make about their hybrid, plug-in and all-electric vehicles, carmakers still expect the internal combustion engine to dominate sales until 2015.

According to a survey conducted last November by audit, tax and advisory company KPMG, which surveyed 200 global automotive executives, including 22 in North America, automakers believe that sales of electric vehicles will not account for more than 15 percent of global sales for at least a dozen more years.

Another Curious Incident from Asia

Posted: 09 Jan 2013 12:08 PM PST

Move out of the way Russia, the rest of Asia wants a piece of the dash-cam pie. Following on from a strange incident that we showed you on Tuesday, here's another one that pegs the question of 'what the heck just happened here'.

All we can tell you is that a man wearing a safety vest, who looks like he was part of a team of road workers, does a Michael Jackson-esque dance move before lying flat down on the road in front of the car with the recording equipment.

GM Surpasses Ford in Government Sales for the First Time Since the 2009 Bailout

Posted: 09 Jan 2013 10:57 AM PST

Hard as it may try to put to rest the "Government Motors" moniker its opponents have coined since the 2009 bailout, General Motors will probably have to deal with it again.

This time the reason is the data published by the General Services Administration (GSA), which show that GM surpassed Ford in federal government sales for the first time since the bailout.

The U.S. government purchased 19,404 vehicles from GM in the fiscal year ending September 30, 2012, which accounts for a 3.6 percent increase compared to 2011.

2014 Lexus IS Officially Revealed in 22 High-Res Photos

Posted: 09 Jan 2013 10:00 AM PST

Well, that didn't take long, did it? Only hours after a Chinese website spilled the beans on the new generation of the Lexus IS, the Japanese brand dropped a full set of photos revealing the executive compact saloon's sharper exterior and interior styling, while keeping most other details under wraps until its world premiere at the Detroit auto show next week.

We've already established that the new 2014 IS's exterior lines are very close to those of the LF-CC coupe concept, which was only to be expected since the latter will form the base for a two-door version of the series.

The same can be said about the interior design that brings more character to the new IS with inspiration from the LFA supercar, with Lexus adding that it has used higher quality cabin materials, trims and finishes throughout.

New tech features include a Lexus-first electrostatic switches that are said to need "just a finger touch" to adjust the air conditioning temperature. We're also told that the driving position is sportier thanks to the lower seat hip point and the angle of the new steering wheel, with the latter offering an increased reach adjustment.

VCMC’s Turbocharged 350HP Scion FR-S Reviewed by Drive

Posted: 09 Jan 2013 09:15 AM PST

Drive's Tuned channel is back for the 2013 season and for its first web-episode, Matt Farah drove a Scion FR-S tuned by Canada's VCMC and Shift Autosport for the U.S. northern neighbors' Scion Tuner Challenge.

Everyone who has reviewed the FR-S/Toyota GT86 has so far agreed that, while it handles well, it is underpowered. A turbocharger that ups power to 350-horses, 320 of which allegedly make it to the rear wheels, fixes that issue while a lighter flywheel improves the engine's willingness to rev.

VW’s Budget Brand Ready to Launch with 3 Family Cars, Supermini and Possibly an SUV

Posted: 09 Jan 2013 08:00 AM PST

One would think that 12 brands, which are currently owned by Europe's number one and the world's number three automotive group, would be enough. Apparently, they are not: VW Group executives must have had their fingers crossed behind their backs when they recently vowed to put an end to their brand shopping spree.

While VW is not going to buy another carmaker yet (as far as we know, at least) it is getting ready to launch a new global budget car brand that will compete with the likes of Dacia, Lada and Chinese companies like Geely.

It's a shrewd move by the Germans as, by the end of 2012, entry-level cars costing up to €10,000 (US$13,000) will account for a global sales volume of 13 percent, or 8 million units.

Acura to Tweak ILX Compact Sedan to Improve Mediocre Sales

Posted: 09 Jan 2013 06:37 AM PST

Much to the dismay of Acura, the ILX hasn't exactly been the success Honda's near-luxury brand expected it to be selling a little over 12,000 units in 2012, or less than half than the 30,000 originally targeted. That's something Acura freely admits.

"The ILX is not hitting our sales expectations," American Honda President John Mendel told reported at November's Los Angeles Auto Show, according to Wards Auto. "Consumers have told us they like the 2.4L and they wish they had an automatic, but they say the midrange vehicle is underpowered and they don't see the value in it."
