Future Cars: GM's Upcoming 2014 Cadillac Escalade Luxury SUV

Posted: 07 Jan 2013 05:45 PM PST

The Sopranos, rappers and suburban mums (perhaps the Chinese as well…) can all rejoice; yes, that's right, the Cadillac Escalade is making a comeback - in fact quite a visual one, as you can see in our illustration based on recent spy shots and our own intel.

On the heels of the latest Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra, GM's Cadillac unit has been busy massaging the truck-based platform with the aim of turning it into America's ultimate luxury SUV statement.

When first introduced in 1999, the aim was to tackle opposition from the likes of the Ford Group's Lincoln Navigator. The resulting effort was rather dismal as GM hastily took the GMC Yukon Denali as a starting point and barely modified it; thankfully whilst still being truck-based, successive generations have somewhat improved.

Carscoop's A-Z Guide to the 2013 Detroit Motor Show [Updated]

Posted: 07 Jan 2013 05:13 PM PST

The North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) that takes place in Detroit is the first major event of the year for the automotive industry.

In 2013, the show opens its doors on January 14 for the media and on the 19th for the public, who can visit the Cobo Center until the 27th and view all the new models on display.

Perhaps the most eagerly anticipated premiere is that of the all-new, seventh-generation Corvette. GM, however, has a second ace up its sleeve for the 2013 NAIAS: the world debut of the Cadillac ELR hybrid coupe, aka the production version of the Converj concept that was launched at the same event four years ago.

New SRT Viper GTS Dyno Tested by Edmunds: Does it Deliver on its Promises?

Posted: 07 Jan 2013 04:31 PM PST

The Dodge Viper, in its two previous incarnations, was a love it or hate it kind of sports car; which is probably what Bob Lutz, Chrysler's president at the time, intended when he green-lighted the project in 1989.

Lutz intended for the first Viper to be a modern-day Shelby Cobra. When the car became available in 1992, it was clear that the "Team Viper" had achieved its objective.

New Audi SQ5 with 349hp 3.0-liter TSI to Debut at Detroit Auto Show

Posted: 07 Jan 2013 03:59 PM PST

Last summer, Audi introduced its first ever S model powered by a diesel-engine, the SQ5 SUV sporting 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged V6 TDI with a power output of 308hp (313PS) and peak torque of 650 Nm (479 lb-ft).

At the time, the Ingolstadt-based brand said that the TDI will only be offered in Europe. Audi hasn't changed its mind about the availability of the SQ5 TDI, but at the upcoming Detroit auto show, it will reveal a second iteration of the SQ5, this time powered by a supercharged gasoline engine.

Audi says this model was created specifically for the following markets: United States, Canada, China, Russia, Singapore, South Korea, South Africa, Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, Chile and the Ukraine, and will not be offered in Europe.

At the heart of the new SQ5 lies Audi's 3.0-liter supercharged V6 with a compressor featuring two rotors that spin at over 20,000 rpm. The TSI unit generates 349hp (354PS) between 6,000 and 6,500 rpm, and delivers 470Nm (347 lb-ft) of torque to the crankshaft between 4,000 and 4,500 rpm.

Cool Smoker Cruisin' in his Ride gets an Unexpected Wakeup Call

Posted: 07 Jan 2013 02:39 PM PST

We can all understand why a young man in this day and age would like to look cool in his ride when cruising the streets, as well as why he would want to film himself from not one, but two different cameras while doing so.

The only problem with that is, when you put yourself in an embarrassing situation like, let's say, paying attention to other drivers, passengers and pedestrians instead of keeping your eyes on the road, it can turn and bite you in the behinds if you don't get rid of the recording material…

Ice Ricer Nissan GT-R Having Some Winter Fun in Northern Sweden

Posted: 07 Jan 2013 12:32 PM PST

After demonstrating how easy it is to get a Nissan GT-R to plow its way out of a bank of snow, the crew at Team Ice Ricers is now sharing some short clips of a Godzilla dressed in its winter-camouflage costume sliding on Northern Sweden's icy roads as they're heading towards a local ice-course.

We can't see what kind of tires the GT-R is wearing (some commentators on YouTube are claiming that the Nissan sports car is fitted with special studded snow tires), but either way, the driver is sure pushing his luck under these adverse road and weather conditions.

Business Class: Corporate Sales Help German New Car Market and Domestic Manufacturers

Posted: 07 Jan 2013 12:07 PM PST

The new car Market in Germany dropped by 2.9 percent last year, to 3.1 million vehicles, compared to 2011. In 2013, it's forecasted to slip to 3.0 million units, according to data provided by the VDA trade group.

Despite the sales plunge, the German market is holding its own against the crisis that's sweeping the European car market as a whole and has resulted in the worst sales for the past two decades.

One might think that German citizens are more affluent than their neighbors in the Old Continent are, so they can afford to replace their cars with new ones. The truth is, it is business fleets, not private sales that keep both the German market and home car manufacturers afloat.

Watch a Motorcyclist Scaring and Surprising People with Load Exhaust

Posted: 07 Jan 2013 11:00 AM PST

As much as we all like the mechanical noises produced from well-tuned cars and motorcycles, we assume that there are times many of us could do without some of the obnoxious crack, snap and pop sounds echoed from certain exhaust pipes.

One such example comes to us through this video of a biker - presumably from the United Kingdom, who seems to like scaring pedestrians and road users while surprising others, with sudden burst of the throttle, usually at a red light.

MT Puts New 2013 Chevrolet Camaro 1LE V8 Through its Paces

Posted: 07 Jan 2013 11:09 AM PST

If you're looking for a Chevrolet Camaro, you'll certainly be drooling over the 580HP supercharged ZL1. The only problem is that it's priced at US$56,550, so if you can't or are not willing to spend that amount of money, the entry-level 323HP V6 model, which is priced from US$24,245 may be all that you need.

It's got the looks, enough poke to light up those rear tires and justify its muscle car tag and costs way less than the range topper.

Even the SS, which puts out 426HP from its 6.2-liter V8 at $33,535 or US$37,035 in 1SS and 2SS guise respectively, is much cheaper than the ZL1 that can lap the Nurburgring in 7:23.51 and is, thus, priced accordingly.

No, you're not seeing double, nor is this the work of an imaginative Photoshop artist, as evidenced by a video of the outlandish contraption filmed on the road.

If we are to believe the numerous posts on YouTube and other video sharing sites (we have yet to find the original clip, if you happen to know more, send us an email or tell us in the comments), an unnamed foreign diplomat living in Rabat, the capital and third largest city of the Kingdom of Morocco, owns the conjoined Jeep Wrangler twins.
