First Official Photos of All-New Peugeot 2008 Small Crossover Posted: 04 Jan 2013 07:19 PM PST We cannot know if Peugeot intended for us to see its new 2008 crossover so early, but fact is, official pictures of the car are already making the rounds on the internet. Peugeot previewed its new Nissan Juke and Opel / Vauxhall Mokka (Buick Encore in North America) with a thinly disguised concept model at last year's Paris Motor Show. Read more » |
Posted: 04 Jan 2013 06:29 PM PST We are getting ready to put down an old friend. No, not the family dog…our old friend is a 1989 BMW 325i. It is 23 years old, which in Southern California car years is equal to 102 in human years. Our Beemer failed a smog test this weekend. (Luckily, failing high school algebra wasn't a criterion for euthanasia or I wouldn't be writing this!). The car is in that very gray area where it would cost more to fix it than it's worth. And before we go too far, let me emphasize that we are not serious car people. We call our car The Beemer, which BMW car enthusiasts argue is incorrect. BMW motorcycles are to be called Beemers and cars are to be called Bimmers. Tomato, Tomahto I say. I am a phonetically based person and Beemer seems to be what a BMW vehicle should be called. Let's move on. Read more » |
Indonesia City Mayor Wants Female Motorbike Passengers to be Banned from Straddling Posted: 04 Jan 2013 03:38 PM PST Indonesia is the world's largest Muslim country. In September 2009, the Aceh provincial government, which is the only to follow the strict Sharia, introduced a law that punished adultery to stoning by death. It also didn't allow men to wear shorts and women to wear tight trousers and jeans, as those items were deemed offending. Some women objected, saying skirts would be impractical when riding motorcycles or scooters. Read more » |
Four Generations of Range Rover Luxury SUVs Come Together Posted: 04 Jan 2013 11:21 AM PST The Range Rover series is regarded by many as the forefather of today's luxury SUVs with a rich and rather interesting history spanning more than four decades. Naturally, much has changed since the introduction of the first generation model in 1970, which began its life as a mostly utilitarian three-door SUV and it wasn't until Land Rover presented the five-door version with added amenities such as air-conditioning and…carpet that it began taking shape as a luxury model. GM Creditors’ Lawsuit Over 2009 Bankruptcy Deal Could Cost Nearly US$1 Billion Posted: 04 Jan 2013 10:43 AM PST Despite making an impressive comeback in the past three years and having recently started the process of buying back the U.S. Treasury's shares, General Motors is still facing problems connected with its 2009 bailout. After General Motors Corp., aka the "old" GM, filed for bankruptcy, its best assets were sold to General Motors Co., the "new" GM, and the remainder remained with the "old" company to be liquidated in order to pay back its creditors. Enlightened Teen Jailed After Bragging About Drink Driving and Crashing on Facebook Posted: 04 Jan 2013 10:10 AM PST Given that most young people were born into the world of internet these days, you would think that they would be far more careful with what they post online, be that on social media accounts, forums or on YouTube. For better or for worse, that's not the case with many youngsters like Jacob Cox-Brown, an 18-year old from Astoria, Oregon, who uploaded the following post on his Facebook page: Read more » |
Jay Leno Takes Hurst's 570HP Supercharged Dodge Challenger SRT8 for a Spin Posted: 04 Jan 2013 09:43 AM PST As much as he loves his Italian exotics, Jay Leno is also a muscle car fan. In his wide (and wild) collection, there are two Dodge Challengers: a 1970 R/T and a 2008 SRT, the latter being the fourth car that rolled off the production line. His 1970 Dodge is fitted with a Hurst pistol-grip lever, something that apparently increased the car's "cool" factor. The Hurst name remained dormant for some time but now it has been resurrected, so Jay had to find out what the company was up to. Read more » |

GM Recalls More than 69,000 SUVs and Trucks Because They May Roll Away Posted: 04 Jan 2013 08:05 AM PST The second automotive recall of 2013 after Subaru comes from General Motors that says more than 69,000 full-size pickup trucks and SUVs distributed globally may be affected by a problem that could cause them to roll away after being parked. According to safety regulators, certain 2013 model Cadillac, Chevrolet and GMC vehicles including the Escalade, Sierra and Silverado, may have been built with a cracked park lock cable or a malformed steering column lock actuator gear in the lock module assembly. This is How Canadians Clear the Snow Off Their Roads Posted: 04 Jan 2013 07:34 AM PST In some places, a little bit of salt and a pickup truck fitted with a plow will do fine to clear the roads when Mother Nature shakes her head and sprinkles her dandruff, but in certain areas, it's just won't do the trick, at least not in a timely manner. That's when you need some heavy machinery to do all the hard work. If you have ever wondered how they do it, a YouTube user filmed a snow removal crew from Canada swiftly clearing up tons of snow with what could be one of the largest snow blowers we've seen working together with several dump trucks. DMC Runs a Performance and Styling Tune Over the Ferrari F12berlinetta Posted: 04 Jan 2013 07:11 AM PST Luxury aftermarket specialist DMC is usually associated with Lamborghini tunes, but once in a while, it also applies its styling and performance expertise on Ferrari models, with its latest creation being the Ferrari F12berlinetta Spia. The eye candy for the Spia comes from a new carbon fiber body kit, which according to DMC, can be easily removed at any time. Before we enter the details, we should note that the pictures seen here are digitally manipulated (in other words, they're Photoshop renders) as the project is currently its final development stages and will be available this April. Just Two Slammed Mitsubishi Lancer EVO Xs Rolling Around Posted: 04 Jan 2013 06:36 AM PST Does every car video have to be about (legal or…illegal) quarter mile runs, drift stunts and strange accidents? Of course not, where's the fun in that? One nicely directed clip that recently captured our attention on YouTube simply shows two friends in their road-hugging Mitsubishi Lancer Evo X performance sedans going out for a ride with the appropriate music heard in the background. Mazda to Boost Capacity at Mexican Plant to 230,000 Units in 2016 Posted: 04 Jan 2013 05:49 AM PST Mazda's upcoming plant in Salamanca, Mexico, is still under construction with a launch date set for March of 2014, yet the Japanese carmaker has already made plans to increase its initial annual capacity from 140,000 units to 230,000 units by March of 2016. According to the company, the reason why it decided to boost capacity is to accommodate the additional annual production of approximately 50,000 Toyota-branded vehicles built under contract, beginning in the summer of 2015, as well as to cater to the worldwide demand of its new SKYACTIV vehicles. 2014 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Coupe and Cabriolet Unveiled Ahead of Detroit Debut [w/Video] Posted: 04 Jan 2013 04:56 AM PST With the sedan and estate versions of the Mercedes-Benz E-Class having already gone under the knife for extensive cosmetic surgery, it was time for their coupe and convertible siblings to follow suit before their Detroit Motor Show premiere. The two models that complete the revised 2014 model year E-Class range have also ditched the four separate front headlights in favor of one-piece units but, unlike the family-oriented versions, have kept the distinctive pontoon rear fenders of the previous model. Mind you, Mercedes-Benz designers didn't just slap on the saloon's face on the E-Class Coupe and Cabriolet. Instead, the single headlamps are more sculpted and feature different twin LED graphics, the grille gets a single bar (instead of two) supporting the three-pointed star and the bumper design is more aggressive, with an inverted central air intake and enlarged outer inlets. At the rear, apart from the sculpted fenders, the 2014 models get a "wing design" rear bumper, chrome trim and new taillamps. "Three words sum up both the E-Class Coupe and the four-seat Cabriolet model: captivating, athletic, passionate", said Mercedes-Benz head of sales and marketing Dr. Joachim Schmidt. "It is especially pleasing that the two vehicles also incorporate the most intelligent technology ever. This makes them true dream cars." Read more » |
