Posted: 29 Jan 2013 06:25 PM PST

Some say that it's getting a bit old inserting the "some say" joke in Top Gear stories, so we'll just get down to business. As you may probably have heard, the world's most (in)famous TV car show is back for its 19th season.

This 1991 Acura NSX has Only 4,882 Miles on the Odo and it's up for Grabs

Posted: 29 Jan 2013 05:16 PM PST

While many of us might not understand why anyone would buy a real sports car like the Acura NSX (sold as a Honda outside of North America) and keep it parked in a warehouse for most of its life, we guess that you will appreciate the fact that someone did and you now have the opportunity to acquire it.

The eBay find is a one-owner, unmolested, 1991 NSX with only 4,882 miles (7,855 kilometers) on the odometer and no accidents. That's pretty rare in our book, at least in North America.

Even more so if you happen to live somewhere warm and sunny to enjoy open-top motoring. Like Miami, for example, where Lamborghini CEO Stephan Winkelmann unveiled the open-top version of the Aventador on Monday, January 28.

So far, and leaving aside GM's own press photography, we have seen the brand-new 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray on the floors of the Detroit Auto Show, at the recent Barrett-Jackson auction and parked at Jay Leno's Garage.

If that's not enough, then you may want to thank some very lucky (?) members from the Corvette7 forums including Vette_85, who were able to photograph and capture some footage of the seventh generation of GM's halo sports car out in the streets.

NHTSA Says it Uses Various Forms of Social Media to Discover Defects in Vehicles

Posted: 29 Jan 2013 11:55 AM PST

Usually agencies such as the National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration (NHTSA) find out about vehicle issues when the manufacturer or owners who have experienced trouble report to them.

Now, an agency spokeswoman acknowledged that Twitter, Facebook, other social media websites, and even fan sites, online forums and bulletin boards are searched by the NHTSA regularly in order to discover information about possible issues that may warrant an investigation.

A large-scale study published last year by the Virginia Tech's Pamplin College of Business about online forums showed that they are a new source of information and surveillance for defects in vehicles.

Yippee Ki-Yay, Munich Rivals: Mercedes Stars in New Die Hard Film, BMWs Get Blown Up

Posted: 29 Jan 2013 10:50 AM PST

Has it really been 25 years since officer John McClane saved the day, or rather Christmas Eve and the hostages, including his wife at the Nakatomi Plaza? Oh yes, but that didn't stop Bruce Willis from reprising the role thrice in the intervening years – or rather four times, since he's also starring in the fifth Die Hard installment that's coming out on Valentine's Day.

In "A Good Day to Die Hard", McClane travels to Moscow, meets his estranged son Jack and, as usual, accidentally gets involved in a terrorist scheme that he has to avert.

Hofele-Design Turns the Audi Q7 Facelift Into the STRATOR GT 780

Posted: 29 Jan 2013 10:24 AM PST

We don't know if anyone would actually refer to their Audi Q7 as the "STRATOR GT 780" after Hofele-Design transforms the facelift version of Ingolstadt's full-size luxury SUV, but in any case, that's the name given to the tune by the German-based shop.

The aesthetic treatment encompasses a new front bumper with larger intakes and four additional lamps on the corners, front and rear wheel-arch extensions with matching side skirts, a roof spoiler, front fender air vents, and a wide rear apron with a diffuser.

Jeep CEO Rules Out Italian-Built Small SUV Being a Rebadged Fiat, Still Undecided on Names

Posted: 29 Jan 2013 09:59 AM PST

Platform sharing is a very common, and very cost-effective, practice these days. Company executives, however, fret when someone names their vehicle a "rebadge", "re-skin" or something akin to that no matter how many parts it may actually share with a sister brand's model.

Jeep President and CEO Mike Manley is one of those execs, despite the fact that the Fiat-Chrysler tie-up is mostly about sharing platforms, parts and expertise and minimizing costs and they practice it even at the group's luxury cars.

Spy Shots: Meet the All-new Audi S3 Convertible with a Sleeker Booty, Four Seats and 296HP

Posted: 29 Jan 2013 08:22 AM PST

The launch of the new generation of the Audi A3 in three door, five-door "Sportback" and S3 trims over the past year is only the beginning for the brand with the four-ring badge from Ingolstadt, which has more in store for the premium compact segment.

Last week, we shared scoop pictures of Audi's upcoming Mercedes-Benz CLA-rivaling A3 four-door sedan, and now, our spy photographers have nabbed the first images of the open top version of the series testing in Europe.

And mind you, this isn't just any A3 Convertible but the range-topping (unless Audi surprises us with an RS edition) S3, as evidenced by the quad exhaust tips and the design of the air-vents on the corners of the front bumper, which are identical to the S3 hatchback.

Unlike the current A3 Convertible that's shares its platform with the previous hatchback, the new model is based on the upcoming A3 sedan's longer wheelbase MQB architecture, something that will not only help improve rear passenger and luggage space, but also affords the car a sleeker look with more balanced proportions.

Watch New Mercedes-Benz E 63 AMG Put its 557HP to Good Use

Posted: 29 Jan 2013 07:20 AM PST

Mercedes-Benz launched its revised E-Class range at the Detroit Motor Show and its currently rolling out one commercial after another about its new products – even about the CLA that won't be launched until Geneva.

The first rule in successfully promoting any product is to know who your target group is; whom you are going to sell it to and what they expect. Obviously, the E 63 AMG with its 557HP in standard form and 577HP in S-Model guise is not exactly aimed at those who simply want a premium luxury sedan or station wagon.

We don't know what Kia's engineers have managed to do with the compact hatchback's uprated chassis, but in terms of performance, the turbocharged 1.6-litre GDI petrol engine producing 204PS (201bhp) and 265 Nm (195lb-ft) of peak torque seems to position the cars below the likes of the current VW Golf GTI.
