Spy Shots: New Jaguar F-Type Coupe, This Is Really It!

Posted: 09 May 2013 06:12 PM PDT

As fate would have it, just a couple of hours after we showed you why we weren't (fully) buying into Jaguar's claims that the patent renders of the F-Type Coupe were of the C-X16 Concept, our spy photographer dropped the first shots of the actual production model caught on a public road.

From what we can tell by looking at these images, the F-Type Coupe looks identical to the vehicle in the patent renders right up to the mirrors (same ones used on the Roadster) and with a few negligible differences, to the C-X16 Concept as well, which in our eyes, is very positive…

Audi's TT Undergoes Strict Diet to Become the Ultra Quattro Concept [55 Photos and Video]

Posted: 09 May 2013 05:25 PM PDT

Many things have changed over the years for the automobile, but one thing that remains the same is that, if you're looking to create a sports car or a racer that is fast and handles well, the lighter the build, the better – something that Colin Chapman and Lotus knew all too well since the middle of the previous century.

Audi has been a pioneer of sorts in the industry in recent years with the extensive use of aluminum for its cars, but with the new TT Ultra Quattro Concept, the brand with the four rings went one step further cutting a whopping 300 kilograms or a little over 660 pounds over the regular TT S Coupe, upon which it is based.

Consumer Reports Goes Wild with Praise and Drifty Joy Over the Tesla Model S

Posted: 09 May 2013 04:11 PM PDT

The Consumer Reports test team is not easily impressed, and most of their opinions on cars are a balanced mix of pros and cons - one of the reasons why their reviews are so well-regarded. However, now that they've put their hands on their own all-electric Tesla Model S to test, they're really struggling to say anything bad about it…

It's is not the full review, as this will be posted at a later date, once the car goes through the whole battery of CR tests, but that doesn't mean they haven't done a lot with the car so far.

This Cat is Really Stretching Out: Jaguar XJ with Extra LWB Coming to China?

Posted: 09 May 2013 03:47 PM PDT

The Jaguar XJ is a long car, with plenty of room in the back for even the most long-legged of supermodel girls. If, however, you want more room than you actually need, there's the extended wheel base version, which is very popular in China, and now, if we are to believe several leaked patent renderings, an even longer variant could be on its way.

Be warned, though, as this could just as easily be hoax, or even 3D model destined for a driving game. Still, if it really is a patent rendering, then it announces the arrival of a "super-stretched" XJ destined exclusively for the legroom-crazy Chinese market.

Audi Lets Us Know the R8 is "Handcrafted" in New Short Video

Posted: 09 May 2013 03:20 PM PDT

For some reason, the fact that a car was put together by a human, instead of a machine has always boosted its exclusivity and price, despite the fact that, with the latest precision robots, the same level of attention to detail can be achieved either way. Still, Audi is using this well-known industry fact to boost the appeal of their supercar, the R8. Read more »

Jaguar Tells Autocar F-Type Coupe Patents Show Concept, We Say Pics May Suggest Otherwise

Posted: 09 May 2013 06:13 PM PDT

Recently, German car magazine shared some patent renderings showing what they reported as being the F-Type Coupe, something we agreed upon leaving a small question mark. However, just the other day, British publication came with a report stating that a Jaguar spokesperson told them that the "apparent F-type coupé renderings in fact show the C-X16 concept from 2011". As usually happens in our digital world, many sites jumped in on Autocar's report and took it for granted.

After looking into the matter again, we'll disagree with Autocar's assessment that the renderings clearly show the concept – not because of a spokesperson statement, but due to facts from specific photos of the patented coupe, the C-X16 Concept and the production F-Type roadster.

Family Sedans Losing Ground to Crossovers in the U.S.

Posted: 09 May 2013 02:02 PM PDT

Although they still represent the single largest segment of the U.S. auto industry, family sedans like the Toyota Camry and Honda Accord are losing ground this year to crossovers.

The market share of family sedans has shrunk in 2013, while vehicles like the Ford Escape have increased their share of the market. "While the segment is still growing year-over-year, it's nowhere near what it was growing last year as the industry was launching a lot of new midsize cars," Toyota brand U.S. boss Bill Fay said about U.S. auto sales in April, according to a report from Reuters

New Gallery of Mercedes' Updated E-Class Coupe and Cabrio, and Video of E63 S Wagon

Posted: 09 May 2013 01:26 PM PDT

Mercedes-Benz is still trying to convince us that the redesigned E-Class has a "four-eyed" look that is typical of the E-Class, but I still can't see it… Nevertheless, they have integrated this departure from tradition into the design rather well, and I find the facelifted model better looking than its predecessor.

Now, after launching the sedan and estate versions of the car, and following the world premiere of the Coupé and the Cabriolet models, Mercedes has put the spotlight again on the latter, which in Germany, cost from €42,600 for a base E200 hardtop to €73,300 for an E500 convertible ($55,832 - $96,500).

Motorcyclist Butts Into A Pair of Bicyclists on Mulholland Highway

Posted: 09 May 2013 12:36 PM PDT

Warning: Some viewers may find certain scenes of the accident disturbing

We've seen plenty of motorcycle-related accidents on Southern California's Mulholland Drive, but we can't remember one as strange as this one, captured on film by cameraman and local enthusiast Ken Snyder.

In the video, a motorcyclist riding fairly slow on the right side of the road at "Dead Man's Turn" somehow fails to see the two bicycle riders in front of him and impales them one after the other with his bike…

First Photos of VW's Design Vision GTI Concept, the Golf we'd All Want to Drive [Updated]

Posted: 09 May 2013 11:07 AM PDT

There's nothing terribly wrong with the new Golf GTI Mk7, but there's something about Volkswagen's "Design Vision GTI" track racing concept that gets our heart pumping.

It could be the 71mm (2.8 inches) wider, 57mm lower (2.2 inches) and 15mm (0.6 inches) shorter body of VW's Wörthersee Tour study with the aggressive details that exaggerate the original GTI's styling cues, or the fact that instead of the regular model's 217hp (220PS - base) / 227hp (230PS – Performance Edition), it sports a twin-turbo 3.0-liter V6 with 496hp (503PS) and 560 Nm (413 lb-ft).

Sounds Like a Great Deal: Pre-Order a Bugatti Replica for $150,000 from Craigslist…

Posted: 09 May 2013 10:50 AM PDT

Ask anyone who knows what a motorized vehicle with four wheels is if he or she would like to own a Bugatti Veyron, and the answer would be a great, loud "yes". Aspiring to own one, and being able to do so, are two very different things, as the Molsheim, France-based carmaker's single production model costs as much as a couple of brand-new Lamborghini Aventdaor LP700-4s and a pretty family house to go with it.

What is that we hear you say; replica cars? Sure, if you don't mind rolling around a Suzuki hatch or a Civic dressed as a Veyron… Are there any better ones? Well, the 2002 Mercury Cougar-based Veryon clone we found a few years back wasn't that bad from the pictures, though, we've no idea how it looked up close. All this brings us to a Craigslist ad discovered by Carscoops reader Max.

Posted: 09 May 2013 10:04 AM PDT

You may remember some older rumors that suggested that Aston Martin was going to sign a deal to receive engines from AMG, in order to cut spending and become more competitive, but ever since we first heard about it in December of last year, there has been no talk of this anywhere…

Now, though, according to Bloomberg, Aston representatives are in talks with Daimler for initiation of "supply and technical cooperation agreements as the U.K. sports-car maker seeks to reduce spending on developing models."

There are showoffs who demonstrate their driving skills in the correct environment and there are showoffs who simply tell the world that they shouldn't be allowed to sit behind the wheel of any car, let alone a tuned Corvette C5 Coupe.

You won't need more than a few seconds to figure out which of the two applies to the man wearing the Corvette-jacket [sic] in the following video.

We Learn Citroen’s Plan to Reinvent Itself from Brand's CEO

Citroen management is going to address rightful concerns regarding their model lineup overlapping that of sister-brand Peugeot, and in order to make the double chevron logo relevant again, they are going to aim these cars at a different audience, which is more into touchscreens than sports suspension packs.

The information comes from the brand's CEO, Frederic Banzet, who has announced that they their new line of C-branded cars will better compliment their range of "nearly-premium" DS-badged offerings by "optimizing cost-to-function ratio."
