Posted: 01 May 2013 04:59 PM PDT

Until Volkswagen unwraps the new Golf R, which should house more than 270 ponies under its hood, the fastest series-production Golf 7 that you can buy today is the GTI Performance edition that comes with 227hp (230PS) versus the regular GTI's 217hp (220PS).

It is this version of the new Golf GTI that German car magazine Sport Auto took to a quiet side road and freed all of its 227-horses through the front wheels.

Another EV Manufacturer Goes Under, This Time It’s Coda

Posted: 01 May 2013 04:05 PM PDT

Coda is a little-known name in the industry, primarily because it is a very small company, which only makes one car…or let us rephrase, made one car. The Los Angeles-based startup filed for bankruptcy protection on Wednesday, because their single offering did not attract the desired number of buyers.

The Coda Sedan was assembled locally, in Los Angeles, from knockdown kits brought in from China, and they only managed to build and sell one hundred examples. The all-electric sedan offered conventional looks, lots of space inside and a competent electric powertrain, as well as a maximum certified range of 125 miles, or 200 km.

Posted: 01 May 2013 03:34 PM PDT

If Ken and Barbie ever wanted a fifth-generation Camaro to replace one of their many cute cars, Mrs. Foxy here would no doubt be one of their best options.

The light-pink colored (or wrapped, we're not entirely sure) pre-facelift Chevrolet Camaro Coupe with the white stripes, accents and wheels, naturally caught the eye of YouTube author Patrick3331, who found it parked in front of at what looks like a hotel entrance in Dubai.

New Lincoln MKZ Sells in Record Numbers in April

Posted: 01 May 2013 02:51 PM PDT

It seems that Lincoln is on its way to recover from the failed launch of the new 2013 MKZ, with proof coming in the form of the company's April sales figures.

According to Ford's executive VP of global marketing, Jim Farley, the luxury automaker's stylish sedan is "right around the 4,000-unit sales mark," which means it sold more last month than it did from January through March, when a total of 3,758 units were shifted.

A Video Tribute to Ayrton Senna and the Honda / Acura NSX

Posted: 01 May 2013 02:22 PM PDT

One of the saddest moments in the history of Formula 1, and motorsports in general, was the death of the great Ayrton Senna on May 1, 1994, after the Brazilian pilot's Williams F1 crashed into a concrete barrier during the San Marino Grand Prix at the Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari in Italy.

If you happened to have noticed the date today, it's May 1, which means it's been precisely 19 years since the legendary F1 pilot's untimely death.

It looks like fate didn't want this Russian motorcyclist to come out unscathed from his ride. 1998 Autotech-Tuned Volvo S40 T4 Shows Lamborghini Gallardo Who's The Speed Boss

Posted: 01 May 2013 09:11 AM PDT

Of all the models that have worn the Volvo badge over the years, the first generation of the S40, which was co-developed with Mitsubishi and shared a common platform and engines with another mind-numbing model, the Carisma, ranks very high on the uncool-meter.

However, this particular S40 has a little something that its regular siblings don't: 420-horses rumbling under its hood. We're told that it's a 1998 Volvo S40 T4, which in factory guise was powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged four delivering 197hp (200PS), but this one is tuned by Autotech. It's unclear whether the 420-horses are measured on the crankshaft or the wheels.

Man Charged for...Drunk Walking Over Need for Speed Movie Barricades, Plus New Film Footage

Posted: 01 May 2013 07:16 AM PDT

In the Need for Speed racing games, players break the law with their cars, but the story of Joseph Paul Kuhn, is one far less glamorous. Police arrested the 26-year old man after he allegedly crossed barricades for areas closed for "Need for Speed" movie filming at Macon, Georgia, not with a car, but by…foot.

The Macon Telegraph reported that Kuhn had been warned by officers redirecting traffic to not go through the barricades, but he made…a run for it and did it anyway. The young man was charged with public intoxication (we guess that would be Walking Under the Influence) and failure to obey officers.

Since we're talking about the upcoming Need for Speed movie, which is scheduled for release next year, we looked around and found new videos with chases shot by fans both in Mendocino, California, last month, and from Macon, Georgia, from earlier today (May 1, 2013). You can view the videos right after the break.

New Lotus Exige S Roadster Announced in Promo Video

Posted: 01 May 2013 06:34 AM PDT

Lotus cars are unique machines, which reflect the company's strict philosophy on cutting weight, keeping the size small and the driving dynamics agile. They are widely regarded as being very good driving and fun cars to chuck around a track or a twisty bit of road. Nowadays, if you were to say that a car "handles like a Lotus," you'd be entering the realm of clichés – their handling is their party piece, and it is stating the obvious.

Now, the British automaker is enhancing its range, as it chopped off the roof of the Exige S creating the Roadster, which just made its official appearance in a video, announcing potential buyers that the car is "ready for the summer."

MotorTrend Gives Us a Taste of Cuban Car Culture

Posted: 01 May 2013 05:34 AM PDT

Cuba is a very interesting place for so many reasons, but to us it's all down to the cars. MotorTrend recently posted a video shot on the island, showing just what kinds of automobiles its residents drive – it's mostly American classics from the 1950s, with a sprinkling of Ladas.

There are no new cars to speak of in the country, and the embargo imposed by the US makes sourcing parts extremely difficult (and expensive). Most of the classics on the road have had their engines swapped, with the most common units used being from the Soviet Era.

Wald International Hands Mercedes-Benz Viano Some Styling Oomph

Posted: 01 May 2013 05:14 AM PDT

Large people carriers like the Mercedes-Benz Viano, which in some countries, including Japan, is sold as the V-Class, are designed from the offset to put the emphasis on practicality and spaciousness, leaving the eye candy-aspect of the build on the side.

While you can't convert a minivan originally developed to transfer goods into a sleek looking sports car, you can spice up its appearance, which brings us to Wald International and its Mercedes-Benz Viano program.
