We Compare the W222 Mercedes-Benz S-Class Side by Side to the W221

Posted: 16 May 2013 08:06 PM PDT

The new Mercedes-Benz S-Class is visually very different to its predecessor, but to help you more easily spot where the biggest changes are, we have put together a selection of photos of both cars, and put them side by side for your convenience. Seeing them like this really brings out the differences in proportions, shape and the details.

The first thing that strikes you is just how flared the wheel arches of the W221 (the old model) are compared to the new W222. It is perhaps less striking to look at because of this, but it is by no means bland or uninspiring. The rear doors are also visibly larger and the roofline is more steeply raked. However, according to Mercedes, this does not hamper headroom in the back, as the new car's passenger compartment is measurably larger.

Watch the Renault Twizy RS F1 Beat Two Megane RS in Drag Race

Posted: 16 May 2013 06:24 PM PDT

The Twizy Renault Sport F1 concept not only looks bonkers, it also goes like crazy! Fitted with a Formula 1-derived KERS system that instantly increases power from 17 hp to 97 hp, it is able to accelerate from standstill to 100 km/h or 62mph in 6 seconds, just like the Megane RS 265.

However, if you watch the video below, you'll be under the impression that the Twizy concept is even faster than a Megane hot-hatch, given its impressive acceleration off the line (and the not very motivated Megane drivers, one may add).

Take a Closer Look at the New Porsche 918 Spyder in 33 Hi-Res Photos

Posted: 16 May 2013 04:17 PM PDT

Unlike Ferrari, which tried to keep its LaFerrari range-topper a secret until the very last minute, Porsche had a more laid-back approach with its upcoming 918 Spyder flagship supercar. The German carmaker kept us updated from the early development stages of the car, releasing revealing photos, although the 918 Spyder has never been shown without light camouflage gear or racing-inspired liveries.

We suspect that the car you see in these photos is not the final production version, or at least it doesn't reveal all of its fine details. After all, visitors of the Frankfurt Auto Show in autumn – where the 918 Spyder will have its world premiere – will to be the first to see the final production version.

Learn How to Operate an Old Land Rover With This Period Video Guide

Posted: 16 May 2013 03:33 PM PDT

The new Range Rover represents the culmination of decades-worth of off-roading experience wrapped up in a raised limousine body and filled with electronic gizmos and leather. That is all good and does genuinely represent progress, but for some, pushing a button is nowhere near as satisfying as pulling a lever and getting that mechanical feeling going – you actually feel like you're doing something. McLaren 12C Spider Wears a New Suit from Gemballa

Posted: 16 May 2013 03:05 PM PDT

You could say that, compared to some of its prior projects (the Porsche Tornado and even more so the Mistrale, come to mind), Gemballa's styling take on the new McLaren MP4-12C Spider is subtle, but we don't mean that in a bad way, quite the opposite actually.

The German tuner's cosmetic touches accentuate the 12C Spider's lines affording it a more individualized appearance that could have very well originated from McLaren's factory.

eBay Barn Find: 1961 Jaguar Mk. II 3.8-Liter from Pennsylvania

Posted: 16 May 2013 02:05 PM PDT

Cars are cool, and they garner up so much interest from blokes (and gals) around the world not only because they represent impressive technical achievements, but also because of the human aspect – the story behind them. This is generally applied to each automaker that has managed to carve itself a place on the market and stay there, but it can also be applied to any specific car that has a particularly interesting history behind it.

This means that any vehicle has the potential to become cool, even if it is widely acknowledged as being a bad one - if it's upon hearing its history you are somehow emotionally touched, then it's a winner.

Would You Enter a Competition to Test Drive the Jaguar F-Type?

Posted: 16 May 2013 01:37 PM PDT

Few will deny (here's someone ) that the new F-Type is one of the most interesting Jaguars of recent years, but is it that interesting to warrant a competition for consumers to test drive the roadster model that goes on sale in the U.S. this month at a starting price of $69,000?

Well, if you want our opinion, the answer is likely no, unless we're talking about an extra special test drive, something we don't see in Jaguar's press release on the matter:

Chinese Car Journalist Totals Lamborghini Gallardo During Test Drive

Posted: 16 May 2013 12:29 PM PDT

There's now officially one less Lamborghini Gallardo in the world. The unfortunate event took place on a wet and slippery stretch of highway, just outside the city of Hangzhou in China. The car, said to be one of the latest facelifted Gallardos, was part of a press event with various local journalists driving the Lamborghini.

However, one of the drivers, aged around thirty, somehow managed to lose control of the all-wheel drive supercar, and completely destroyed its front and rear. Furthermore, Italian coupe, which is priced at around $536,000 in the PRC, cannot be feasibly repaired and will be stripped and scrapped, according to the source article on Car News China.

Spied: Undisguised BMW M235i Coupe Shows its Pretty Face

Posted: 16 May 2013 11:10 AM PDT

For the very first time, we can take an unobstructed look at BMW's new 2 Series Coupe, seen here as an M235i model (think of it as an M135i with a boot and a prettier face). As you know, BMW's new naming strategy means that what was previously known as the 1 Series Coupe and Convertible will soon be called the 2 Series Coupe and Convertible respectively.

Unlike the 1 Series Coupe and Convertible, the new generation model adopts a different front end than the hatchback upon which it is based. The sleeker headlights and the aggressive bumper with large intakes make the car look like a mini-me 4 Series Coupe, as does the similar profile.

2014 Holden Caprice Comes with New Interior and a $10,000 Price Cut

Posted: 16 May 2013 08:55 AM PDT

Holden has just rolled out the long-wheelbase version of its Commodore series, the Caprice (offered by GM as the Chevrolet Caprice police car in North America), which gains the new interior of the VF Commodore, but misses out on the aluminum body part upgrades and exterior revisions.

On the other hand, both the 2014 Caprice V6 LPG and Caprice V V8 benefit from a substantial $10,000 price cut over the outgoing 2012 models (read our test drive here). While Australian buyers will surely appreciate this move, it also raises some reasonable questions about Holden's previous pricing policy…

Porsche Releases New Photos and Technical Details on the 918 Spyder

Posted: 16 May 2013 07:10 AM PDT

With the 918 Spyder undergoing the final stages of development, Porsche is keeping us updated with a new photo gallery and some interesting new technical details about its upcoming flagship "hypercar".

Porsche says the 918 Spyder benefits from the development of race cars for the 24 hours race in Le Mans in 2014. The rolling chassis is the core of the 918 Spyder and can be driven even without a body on top of it – a tradition inherited from Porsche racecars.

As we already know, the all-wheel drive concept of the 918 combines a gasoline engine with an electric motor on the rear axle and a second electric motor on the front axle. The powertrain is based on knowledge gained by Porsche during races with the 911 GT3 R Hybrid.

Next Generation Audi Q7 to be a Fair Chunk Lighter

Posted: 16 May 2013 05:02 AM PDT

The current generation Audi Q7 is as you'd expect, a very heavy vehicle, tipping the scales in V8 TDI guise at just under 2,500 kg or 5,510 lbs. However, trying to keep up with more modern rivals, like the new Range Rover that uses an all-aluminum construction to cut weight, it is now known that the all-new model will also be considerably lighter.

Sharing its MLB platform with the Volkswagen Touareg and Porsche Cayenne, it is expected to shed some 360 kg (800 lbs), thus boosting performance, handling and efficiency – the two aforementioned vehicles feel very similar on the road, and the new Q7 will probably be no different.
