Future Cars: 2014 Audi S3 Cabriolet Blows Its Top

Posted: 02 May 2013 05:00 PM PDT

When one's mind turns toward performance Audi's, initial thought usually conjures up images of the glorious Quattro's from the 80's, R8's and countless hyper luxury cars carrying the famous 'RS' designation. I'll be the first to admit for having a soft spot for them - especially the now superseded ballistic twin-turbo V10 RS6 (and gosh how I'd trade in my family for one of those too). However, for those who want something rapid in a smaller, more open-plan configuration then Audi has the just prescription for you. Read more »

Seven-time MotoGP world champion Valentino Rossi had a go at NASCAR last week as he tried out Kyle Busch's Toyota Camry stock car in a PR stunt organized by Monster Energy at the Charlotte Motor Speedway. After a short briefing with Kyle Busch, who made some demonstrative laps on the track, "The Doctor" jumped behind the wheel of the 650 horsepower V8-powered Toyota racecar. Read more »

This Is Probably the Second-Worst Attempt at Parallel Parking Ever Recorded

Posted: 02 May 2013 03:40 PM PDT

Let's face it, most of us have had trouble learning how to parallel park when we first got our driver's license. However, practice makes perfect, so as time passes, most people get used to this maneuver and gradually turn it into a chore (others even into a craft). However, there are some drivers who seem to have a particularly hard time when it comes to parallel parking. Read more »

Posted: 02 May 2013 03:00 PM PDT

If all you want from a car is "GT3 performance for the road", then according to Mercedes-Benz, you need not look any further than their very own SLS Black Series.

The V8-powered German muscle car gets 626 hp (631 PS), which is good for pushing its carbon-clad body to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 3.6 seconds and up to a top speed of 315 km/h – 197 mph.

This is the Original Jaguar F-Type that Never Made It to Production

Posted: 02 May 2013 02:20 PM PDT

Long before the current F-Type, Jaguar was very close to launching a similar car that would have been the first true successor to the iconic E-Type. As the XJ-S failed to emulate the E-Type's success, in 1980 Jaguar started developing the F-Type, codenamed XJ41 (coupe) and XJ42 (roadster).

The F-Type was supposed to use the underpinnings of the XJ40 sedan and to look like a modern reinterpretation of the E-Type. Signed off for production in July 1982 by Jaguar's then owner British Leyland, the F-Type started taking shape, with a launch date set for March 1986.

Despite Visible Improvements, Certain Chinese Carmakers Continue to Copy

Posted: 02 May 2013 01:40 PM PDT

While browsing through the many premieres of the 2013 Shanghai motor show, I came across the Lifan 620 and 630, with the latter being a new "more upmarket" variant. However, what struck me was the fact that these two models, styled and built by the same automaker, copy two different cars' fascias.

The 620 is a combination of older Volkswagen and a Chinese interpretation of the headlights found on the BMW 3-Series E90, as well as an M-inspired lower grille and bumper. However, this is not a new model, but the new 630 is.

GM Wants Each Next-Gen Chevrolet Volt to be $10,000 Cheaper to Make

Posted: 02 May 2013 01:00 PM PDT

General Motors wants to cut as much as $10,000 per car from the Volt's production costs in order to make the next generation of the plug-in hybrid affordable and profitable.

The Detroit carmaker currently loses money on every Chevrolet Volt it sells, despite the fact that the cheapest model retails for $31,645 after a federal tax credit of $7,500. "Every new technology takes a while to get traction, you've got to work out all of the associated issues," GM CEO Dan Akerson told Bloomberg News in an interview.

Remembering Clarkson’s Review of Peugeot's 306, Will the New 308 be Anything Like it?

Posted: 02 May 2013 12:20 PM PDT

Back in the mid-1990s, Peugeots were appreciated in Europe for their excellent handling characteristics. The French really knew how to tune a chassis in those days, and it showed. However, that fun-to-drive character and pretty if a bit understated looks, gave way to gaping mouths (grilles) with huge headlights on either side, mediocre dynamics and lots of dealer discounts to keep the sales ball rolling. 1964 Fiat 500D is Pure Happiness on Wheels

Posted: 02 May 2013 10:20 AM PDT

The original Fiat 500 was the car that put Italy on wheels after World War 2. The name 500 came from the engine's size of only 500 cubic-centimeters, a normal size in post-war Europe. Its miniscule dimensions – just 2.97 meters/117 inches long and 1.32 meters/52 inches wide, helped it insinuate on the narrow and crowded streets of Italy's old cities. Read more »

Indian Father Who Let Kid Drive Ferrari Could End Up in Jail

Posted: 02 May 2013 09:40 AM PDT

I am sure you'll agree with me when I say that there are many reasons why the wealthy Indian dad who recently made headlines after sharing a video of his young son driving his prized Ferrari F430 on a public street, shouldn't have done what he did.

Number one, his son could have been seriously injured in the V8-powered supercar, the pedals of which were almost out of reach – he could barely see over the steering wheel. Number two, the child could have panicked and killed somebody on the sidewalk. Number three, the risk of getting caught in the act and having to face the harsh punishment of the law, and number four: why on earth would you upload such a horrifically-illegal act on YouTube?

Audi’s Q Family Will Grow to Include Entry-Level Q2 and Range-Topping Q8 SUVs

Posted: 02 May 2013 08:20 AM PDT

Audi plans to launch a luxurious SUV that would rival the Range Rover Sport, according to research and development boss Wolfgang Durheimer. The model will most likely be called the Q8 and will be released by mid-2016.

Believe it or not, it could be even longer than Audi's largest SUV, the Q7, but lower. "Could we go bigger than the Q7? Yes we could definitely do this," Durheimer told Auto Express magazine. "Bentley has proved there is definitely room for more expensive SUVs, and I wouldn't mind giving them a challenge," he added.

McLaren Releases New Footage of P1 Cold Weather Testing

Posted: 02 May 2013 07:40 AM PDT

Cold weather testing is hugely important in the development process of a vehicle. If said car can't withstand the harshest of conditions this planet can throw at it, then it will be improved until it can. That's the purposes of taking camouflaged pre-production models up into the far reaches of northern Europe (mostly Sweden) – to test them to the extreme, and try to make them fail. Read more »

New Porsche 911 Turbo to be Offered Exclusively with PDK, Says Report

Posted: 02 May 2013 07:00 AM PDT

The new 991-based 911 Turbo is shaping up to be quite a machine. While its most recent predecessors have been good cars, they seem to lack the appeal of the base models or the lightweight GT2 and GT3 models. The Turbo has never been as precise a driving machine as the traditional rear-wheel drive models, but according to Road&Track, there is a lot to look forward to with the new model. Read more »

Drift King Compares Philosophy Behind Honda NSX to that of Ferrari’s F430

Posted: 02 May 2013 06:20 AM PDT

Aside from a very insightful opinion into what makes a sports car great, by comparing an old Honda NSX to a Ferrari F430, the so-called "Drift King", Keiichi Tsuchiya, can also drive both of these cars closer to the limit than most of us could ever dream of. This is probably going to be some of the best onboard driving footage you've seen recently, all thanks to the all-important footwell camera, which captures each heel-and-toe downshift and really shows the skill that goes into it. Akio Toyoda, the CEO of the world's largest automaker, will drive a Toyota at the Nürburgring 24-hour race later this month, a company spokesman said, according to the Japan Times.

It won't be the first time he races on the notorious Nordschleife track, as he entered the world-class event twice before, in 2007 and 2009. However, there's a big difference between 2009 and 2013: back then, Toyoda was the vice-president of Toyota Motor Corporation while now he's the big boss.
