Future Cars: Envisioning the 2015 Cadillac ATS-V Coupe

Posted: 29 May 2013 06:16 PM PDT

Ever since the launch of the successful Cadillac ATS sedan, I've humbly admired its presence and determination for going toe to toe with its German rivals. Styling alone gives the competition cause for concern, as it appears striking, balanced and well refined. From the well sorted proportions to its svelte, yet simple surfacing, the ATS is a welcome progression from the hard-edged and boxier designs of recent Cadillac past.

This all bodes well for something else to be derived off the ATS platform; yes that's right - a rather luring Coupe version.

Maryland Motorists Paying Drivers $25 to Cross Chesapeake Bay Bridge Because They're Scared

Posted: 29 May 2013 05:36 PM PDT

This is just one of those stories that make you smile, before you get serious only to smile again. You don't really know if it's funny, serious, or both. Have you ever heard about gephyrophobia? Neither had I, until today, when I learned that it is the medically attested fear of bridges. Apparently it is very real, and it is not a naturally occurring mental disorder, but is actually always caused by a traumatic event involving a bridge (or tunnel, because apparently the subconscious links/associates them). New 2014 BMW X5 Officially Unveiled in All its Evolutionary Glory [70 Photos & Videos]

Posted: 29 May 2013 04:19 PM PDT

The first leaked photos of the new 2014 BMW X5 that surfaced on the internet earlier today left few doubts about the path that the Bavarians would follow with the third generation of their premium midsize SUV, or as the brand with the blue and white roundel likes to call it, SAV for Sports Activity Vehicle.

If you were talented enough on the drawing board to imagine the current X5 with various styling elements from the latest 3-Series sedan and the X3, what you would get is the new X5, which is clearly an evolution of the outgoing model with a more upright and serious face dominated by the twin kidney grilles and the extended headlamp covers.

In a similar fashion, the interior styling of the X5 has evolved to incorporate the latest styling trends at BMW like the four round gauges on the instrument panel and the oversized 10.2-inch Control Display Monitor.

At the rear, the folding backrest of the second-row seat can now be split 40:20:40, which allows load capacity to be increased in stages from 23 cu.ft. to 66 cu.ft. (650 – 1,870 liters), based on EU measurements, which BMW says represents up to seven percent more volume than its predecessor.

Michael Bay Reveals Transformers 4 Movie Cars Including New Corvette Stingray

Posted: 29 May 2013 03:17 PM PDT

We just learnt through Michael Bay's official website that the cast of cars in the upcoming sci-fi action movie Transformers 4 will gain two all-new members, along with a "completely upgraded" and "custom built" version of Optimus Prime.

The first is a Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport Vitesse – undoubtedly a cool sight to see it turn into a robot. The second car is a striking electric green Corvette Stingray, which director Michael Bay says is a "special race-inspired" model .

Hamann Tycoon II M is a BMW X6M Turned Up to Eleven!

Posted: 29 May 2013 01:38 PM PDT

The BMW X6M is an SUV with a coupe profile, four seats and one very powerful engine. It has more than enough performance to meet all needs, with a claimed 0-60 mph (0-100 km/h) sprint time of 4.7 seconds and an electronically-capped top speed of 155 mph (248 km/h).

Yet there seems to be a bit of room for improvement, and Hamann is only too happy to oblige with their latest kit for the vehicle, called Tycoon II M – I won't make fun of its name, but it's not the best they could have come up with.

Few, if any of you, will be surprised to learn that the next generation of the Mini hatchback (also known as the Hardtop) will keep the same basic exterior shape and styling as the two previous models developed under the ownership of the BMW Group. The retro design language defines the Mini brand, and its German owners do not intend to mess around with a successful formula. Read more »

Adam Carrolla Explains Why He Doesn’t Drive His Rare Cars on Public Roads

Posted: 29 May 2013 12:37 PM PDT

Believe it or not, having a collection of rare and expensive cars can be a pain to run. Ask Adam Carrolla, the comedian who happens to own a pair of Lamborghini Miuras, among other cool classic cars. Carrolla says that he doesn't drive his cars on public streets because he doesn't like the attention and because of L.A.'s "crazy, uninsured drivers."

Isn't he talking about the same city where Jay Leno uses to drive his very rare cars? Well, yes, but Carrolla describes himself as the exact opposite of Jay Leno. "If you drive a Miura or some other flashy car on the street, people will look at you. And I don't like the attention," Carrolla tells eBay Motors.

Consumer Reports Gives Praise to Chevrolet for its 2014 Impala Sedan

Posted: 29 May 2013 11:57 AM PDT

I'm going to say that Consumer Reports is right when it states that the previous-generation Chevrolet Impala, built between 2006 and 2013 was a very bland car (visually), and that the 2014 model is a huge improvement in the image department.

Having tested the car, the publication remarks that it is not only more interesting to look at, but also drives and rides much better. They are keen to point out that it is considerably more comfortable than its direct rival from Toyota, the Avalon sedan.

F-150 Lives Up to its Built Ford Tough Promise After Container Falls on Truck

Posted: 29 May 2013 11:07 AM PDT

If Ford is looking for a real life example to promote its "Built Ford Tough" marketing campaign, perhaps they should take a look at this incident that took place on the premises of the University of British Columbia (UBC) in Canada on Tuesday.

Carscoops reader Matus Burik happened to be walking outside the university when he saw a Ford F-150 pickup truck in a…low-rider mode sitting under a large dumpster that had just tipped over.

Sebastian Vettel Takes the Zoe and Twizy Renault Sport F1 for a Spin

Posted: 29 May 2013 10:30 AM PDT

Being a Formula One driver comes with a lot of PR responsibilities, and world champion Sebastian Vettel is no exception. Aside from the Red Bull events, the German pilot also has to do PR work for Renault, the F1 team's engine supplier, and for title sponsor Infiniti.

Considering the latest media event involved Vettel driving the Renault Zoe electric car and the one-off Twizy Renault Sport F1, we can't say that is an ordeal. Especially having the opportunity to drive the bonkers KERS-equipped Twizy, must have been a pleasant experience for Vettel.

Looks Like All-New 2014 BMW X5 Revealed in Leaked Official Photo [Updated]

Posted: 29 May 2013 01:55 PM PDT

The third-generation of BMW's X5 Sports Activity Vehicle will premiere at the 2013 Frankfurt Auto Show in September. Apparently the Internet can't wait that long, hence we have what appears to be the first official photo of the car.

The image has been posted by a user of the Xbimmer forum this morning and seems to be the "real deal". Codenamed F15, the 2014 X5 is aesthetically influenced by the new 3-Series, as we can see from the elongated shape of the headlights that are united with the kidney grille, which is also more upright than before.

Watch New Seat Leon SC Commercial with Multiple Endings

Posted: 29 May 2013 09:10 AM PDT

The new SEAT Leon makes a lot of sense as a family hatchback these days, with its latest VW platform, nice design and a competent range of engines. However, the Spaniards are also now making a two-door SC model, which is shorter, lighter and slightly sharper to drive, while also looking a bit sportier, thanks to the more steeply-raked windscreen, and unique roof shape. Spied: BMW M235i and M435i Flex Their Turbocharged Straight-6s on the Nürburgring

Posted: 29 May 2013 08:33 AM PDT

Over the course of the next year, BMW will drop not one, but two mainstream coupe models (along with their soft-top convertible siblings), the 2-Series and 4-Series, which will replace the two door versions of the current 1-Series and 3-Series.

For the time being, only the 4-Series has been officially confirmed to be offered with an "M" variant, but both models will feature an M Performance version in the guise of the M235i and M435i, which build on the 235i and 435i iterations respectively, adding a slightly more powerful engine, a tweaked chassis and aerodynamic parts to the mix.

Get Your Very Own Peel P50 Replica from eBay and Pretend You're Jeremy Clarkson

Posted: 29 May 2013 08:07 AM PDT

The Peel P50 gained international acknowledgement when Jeremy Clarkson drove one through the BBC offices during an older episode of Top Gear. This was possible because the P50, which was originally built on the Isle of Mann in the 1960s, is minute even when comparing it to our smallest of modern automobiles – Japanese Kei cars are massive in comparison.

It used to hold the record for being the smallest production car in the world, but it has been dethroned. Now you can own one for yourself, if you have $26,000 with which are willing to part. It is expensive, but it is also new and modern, as it is in fact, a replica built in the UK by Modern Microcars.

AutoExpress Says New Lexus IS300 Hybrid is a Good Car, But Not a Game Changer

Posted: 29 May 2013 07:42 AM PDT

The new Lexus IS is a head-turning car, regardless if the looks you'll get while driving it are filled with jealousy or accompanied by disapproving horizontal head motion - the styling stands out whether you like it or not. I think it looks good and different, but others criticize its design and call it too busy and immature, commenting that it may not age well... Read more »

Aston Martin's New 565-HP V12 Vantage S Replaces V12 Vantage [w/Video]

Posted: 29 May 2013 05:01 AM PDT

It looks like the teaser video Aston Martin released a few days ago was a preview of the new 565-hp V12 Vantage S. With 55 more horsepower than the V12 Vantage it replaces, the V12 Vantage S is described by Aston Martin as the brand's fastest road-going model – since the One-77 hypercar isn't produced any more.

Powered by the new 565hp (573 PS) AM28 6.0-liter V12 engine, it is capable of reaching 205 mph (330 km/h). Fitted with the latest generation Bosch engine management, the unit delivers 620 Nm (457 lb-ft) of torque at 5,750 rpm, up from 570 Nm/420 lb-ft in the V12 Vantage. Low rev torque, measured at just 1,000 rpm, is also up from 440 Nm (324 lb-ft) to 510 Nm (376 lb-ft).
