Were These Street Racers Really Chased by a Police Helicopter? Posted: 17 May 2013 08:16 PM PDT Real life Fast and Furious-style gatherings and street races are nothing new and in fact, it's probably wrong to use that term as they precede the fictitious movie franchise by several decades. Cops making their appearance to disband these gatherings and even arrest hoons when they break the law, is just part of the cat and mouse game that goes on between officers and racers. The video that follows comes from one such meeting and it bears the title "Honda Civic Race Chase By Police Helicopter". Read more » |
TRD Tries to Make the 2014 Lexus IS F Sport Look Even Sharper Posted: 17 May 2013 05:22 PM PDT Some would say that the 2014 Lexus IS hardly needs a styling upgrade, which is even more true if we're talking about the factory-offered F-Sport package. However, you will always have people wanting more, which is why Toyota Racing Development (TRD) has released a styling and performance kit for the new IS. The aero kit includes more pronounced side skirts, lower corner pieces on the front bumper, a generous diffuser with dual exhaust on the rear bumper and an integrated trunk spoiler. A set of 19-inch alloy wheels with 15 spokes rounds out the exterior upgrades. Read more » |
New Mercedes-Benz S-Class Uses Some 500 LEDs to Do Away With Conventional Lights Posted: 17 May 2013 06:09 PM PDT In the early days of automobiles, all illumination aside from the very basic exterior lights was either optional or not available at all. Having light bulbs in various places to illuminate the passenger compartment, glove box, even dials became standard as manufacturing methods and automation dropped the costs enough. Now, though, Mercedes-Benz seems very pleased about completely giving up the use of conventional bulbs, all of which have been replaced with modern LEDs in their latest W222 S-Class sedans. So is this really useful, or merely a marketing scheme to make the car seem different and modern? The German automaker would of course be in favor of the former, which they do back up with several arguments. Read more » |

Looks Like They Messed With the Wrong Guy Posted: 17 May 2013 03:44 PM PDT Welcome to another edition of dash-cam goodness from, well, to be honest, we couldn't make out the license plates or read the road signs, but for what it's worth, the footage appears to have been shot in Russia, Ukraine or in one of the surrounding countries to the east of Europe. We're not sure how this incident escalated, as what we see is the dash-cam equipped car overtaking the black sedan on the right and then all of a sudden, it moves to the center – either because the driver tried to block the other vehicle or because he was nudged. European Car Sales Post First Gain in 19 Months Thanks to Growth in Germany, Spain and UK Posted: 17 May 2013 02:55 PM PDT Car sales in Europe rose for the first time in 19 months, mainly led by growth in Germany, Spain and the UK. Registrations in April rose 1.8 percent to 1.08 million vehicles, up from 1.06 million cars a year earlier, according to data from the European Automobile Manufacturers' Association (ACEA). Sales for the first four months of the year fell 7 percent however to 4.18 million vehicles. The growth for April can't hide the fact that the European auto market is at a two-decade low, with industry executives forecasting a drop of about 5 percent for 2013 as the euro zone is in recession. Euro Test Drive of Ford’s Hot Fiesta ST Posted: 17 May 2013 01:54 PM PDT The new Ford Fiesta ST, despite being the most affordable hot hatch in its class, is racking up positive reviews from around the world, and it can now add another under its belt, by Carbuyer. The video posted below is a full test of the Blue Oval's hot supermini, and it gives the impression that just like with the Focus ST, which is one of the cheaper hot hatches, but from the class above, Ford has succeeded in delivering a competent car. 14 Generations of Big Luxury Sedans from Mercedes-Benz Posted: 17 May 2013 01:05 PM PDT Nowadays, you might have a hard time telling apart two automobiles from the same marque, unless you have a tape measure in your hand (Audi, we're primarily looking at you, though, the same applies to some extent for all German premium brands), but there's no such problem when it comes to their names as most companies have streamlined their nomenclature. However, it wasn't always like this, with automakers choosing more colorful names in the past, something that can create plenty of confusion when you're looking into the lineage of a certain model, which in this case, is the S-Class full-size luxury sedan from Mercedes-Benz. Aston Martin Teases "Very Special Concept" to Be Revealed on May 19 Posted: 17 May 2013 12:18 PM PDT This year, Aston Martin is celebrating a century since the company was founded, so it is only natural that the automaker has something special in store for us. It might as well be this "very special concept" that the company mentions in a short video on its official YouTube account. Called "Aston Martin - Past, Present, Future - 19th May 2013", the 26-second video debuts with some pictures of the legendary Aston Martin DBR1, the car that won the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1959. 1974 Ferrari 365 GT4 "Specially Prepared for Bill Cosby" Found on eBay Posted: 17 May 2013 11:11 AM PDT How much money are you willing to spend on a classic coupe from the 1970s? When you're talking about a four-seater Ferrari with a V12 engine, the 365 GT4 2+2, and a famous previous owner, this one should exceed $20,000 (reserve has not been met at $15,000). Read more » |
Irked Toyota Driver Couldn't Wait to Get His McDonald Burger and Rammed a Car Posted: 17 May 2013 10:35 AM PDT Sit-down and take-away restaurants like McDonald's are called "fast food" chains for a few good (and bad, but that's another story) reasons, one of which has to do with the speedy service. Sometimes, though, people are so impatient that not even fast food restaurants can satisfy their need for a speed-lunch… In an incident that occurred at a local McDonald's drive-through in Farmville, North Carolina, on Tuesday, March 14, two drivers were in such a hurry to get their orders in that they didn't hesitate to overtake each other at the drive-thru lane. 2014 Jeep Cherokee's Production Launch Delayed for a Month Posted: 17 May 2013 10:07 AM PDT Chrysler said that the production launch of the 2014 Jeep Cherokee has been delayed for about one month, due to "a wide range of issues." However, Chrysler assured dealers they will have sufficient inventory of the SUV by fall. "We did start with an initial scheduled plan of the third week in May, and now we are into mid-June," said Mark Chernoby, Chrysler's senior vice president of engineering, according a Detroit Free Press report. "That is just due to a wide range of issues." He added that these issues are common when launching an all-new car or truck and that the automaker is ironing them out. Read more » |
Spied: The New Mercedes-Benz S-Class' Rakish Coupe Sibling Posted: 17 May 2013 09:15 AM PDT Two down, five more to go - we're referring to the body styles of the new Mercedes-Benz S-Class family, as we already know that the German premium carmaker plans to expand the range of its flagship series to include a total of seven different models. This week, we witnessed the world premiere of the first two members of the S-Class clan, the regular- and long-wheelbase sedans. So, what's next? Well, we've seen limousine style prototypes as well as the coupe variants that will replace the current CL-Class models, while the talk on the street is that we will see at least one four-seater convertible, possibly two if the rumors about a sedan-cabriolet turn out to be true. For the time being, we're going to concentrate on the new S-Class Coupe that our spies nabbed testing on public roads. Read more » |

Ford Sued by Owners Over Allegedly Defective 3.5-Liter V6 EcoBoost Engines Posted: 17 May 2013 08:08 AM PDT Car engines have become incredibly reliable, and you really can't buy a bad car from a mainstream manufacturer these days, in the true sense of the word, because most have been in service in one form or another for many years and have had their flaws ironed out. However, when a manufacturer launches a new series of turbocharged engines that are not based on any previous variant, reliability and durability may prove tricky to master at first. This is why a lawsuit has been filed against Ford by three vehicle owners from Ohio. They say the source of their displeasure is the 3.5-liter V6 EcoBoost, which caused the vehicles to "shake, misfire and rapidly lose power" while at highway speeds, this making the problem a serious safety threat. BMW Turns Back the History Dial to the 5-Series E34 Posted: 17 May 2013 07:31 AM PDT In the latest episode of BMW's flashback video series, the Bavarian carmaker talks about the third generation 5-Series, known internally under its E34 codename. The E34 5-Series was the last production BMW to feature the old-school, uncovered dual headlamps, though, it was also the first 5er to do away with the slanted shark face, with its design, both inside and out, clearly inspired by the E32 7-Series. In fact, at the time, many described the car as a junior 7-Series. In another first for the series, the E34 was available in two body styles, sedan and station wagon (Touring). Read more » |
It's a Dud: Volvo World Premiere was a Team-up With Swedish House Mafia, Not a New Model... Posted: 17 May 2013 06:51 AM PDT As it turns out, Volvo's recently-uploaded teaser videos concerning a "world premiere" were not proclaiming the arrival of a new crossover. In fact, it is an announcement for their team-up with DJ trio Swedish House Mafia for the creation of a music video that uses the group's hit song "Leave the World Behind" – it will be used in the global launch campaign for the XC60, which is apparently what we saw in the photo we posted. Ouch…Kim Kardashian’s Gates Too Fast for Kanye West’s Lamborghini Aventador Posted: 17 May 2013 12:16 PM PDT We don't usually cover celebrities, but this time we just had to. You'll understand when you'll watch the video below, courtesy of TMZ. But don't open it just yet. The story behind it is that Kanye West had a friend drive his $750,000 (according to TMZ, so take that price with a grain of salt) Lamborghini Aventador back from service to the mansion of his girlfriend and the mother of his soon-to-be born child, Kim Kardashian. Fiat Responds to Talk About Moving HQ to U.S., Says It's "Not Currently on the Agenda" Posted: 17 May 2013 05:25 AM PDT The Fiat Group issued a press statement to address a report that originated from Bloomberg about the company mulling to transfer its headquarters from Turin, Italy, to Detroit, USA, due the success of Chrysler, and which cited insiders from the Italian carmaker as the source. For some reason, Fiat felt the need to remind us that the report noted the automaker was simply considering the move and that means, "there's no news to report", yet on the other hand, the statement says the issue on hand "is not currently on the agenda", which one could interpret as an admission that it may be in a future agenda… Read more » |
GMC Reveals Regular Cab Version of the 2014 Sierra while Talking about Aerodynamics Posted: 17 May 2013 05:01 AM PDT Despite the fact that these are the first official images depicting the Regular Cab version of the 2014 GMC Sierra, GM doesn't say a word about it. The images come from a GM press release that focuses on busting "myths" about pickup trucks having poor aerodynamics. Launched as a Crew Cab, just like its Chevrolet Silverado sibling, the all-new GMC Sierra will also have Regular Cab and Double Cab versions, both coming this summer. The images show the 2014 GMC Sierra testing in the wind tunnel, a rather unusual environment for a pickup truck if we're to be honest. Read more » |
